I see you're new here. All new people from GR are required to share a limited, not-yet-leased, beer with me. I will give you 4 BA rep pts worth much respect here and your career moving forward.

Did the say it was part of the series or was it going to be distributed like the Backstage series? I have seen mention of the latter, but not the former.

I emailed founders and was told its part of the backstage series.

Any info on an approximate release date. I know they are letting them age a bit in the bottles, but is there any new news?

    Edit:
Impressive what a little bit of research can do. Release in late fall, likely in november. Will be released there, but that release will be separate from the anny party (where the beer will be on tap).

Anyone know what barrels it was in? Was thinking of this yesterday that maybe they're trying to pull a KH type deal and aging it in barrels previously used for CBS. A guy can dream right? Hope it's not as hard to get as KBS around here but I have a feeling it will be.

I hope they don't use the same barrels. KH was in Pappy barrels, a second use of the maple barrels would, in my opinion, harbor little taste. As for the rarity, I think it will be similar to KBSx2.

I had a conversation with a young lad from the GR area earlier this weekend whose brother works at Founders, and happened to bring home a half filled bottle, similar story to the gent above...(possibly he IS the brother? B. Riley?) and the word on the barrels were that Bolt Cutter has been sitting in them for 8 years...so no re-used maple crap. We shall see how much fact is involved with this.

^^* 8 years ...holy crap. Call me skeptical but i want a bit more than a guys word.

but still, if there is any truth to that then that is awesome

I'm sorry but I highly doubt they've been in there for 8 years. While Founders is one brewery I give all the credit in the world to, I doubt they (1) had the intuition to predict the obsessiveness of BA beers at this stage, (2) could afford to sacrifice that much room in their brewery for 8 straight years, (3) could possibly make all their money back for the loss of time the space/barrels could have been used for other product, and (4) would have the patience to wait 8yrs before deciding now is the time. I'm not saying this is 100% false, but rather stating that I'd place my bets on the fact that this is bogus speculation.

Will people need to check their bottles for splinters? 8 years seems dubious.

I heard that the only tear that Chuck Norris has ever cried was added to the barrel 8 years ago.

    8 months sounds more reasonable.

I don't care what barrel it came from....just excited that a barrel aged barleywine from the great state of Michigan is finally getting bottled AND distributed!!

Side note:: Yes, Kuhnhenn BBBW is second to none (except KH )....so it will be interesting to see how it stacks up to it!

To your number 2 point look up where they store their beer for barrel aging. Its a huge underground mine/cave. If there is one thing they are not short on its storage space

lol at in the barrel for 8 years. i hope that's accurate just for the absurdity... that is a ton of beer to be sitting in barrels wayyyyyy past when it should come out.

p.s. now that founders is in CT, i'm putting on my hunter's cap when this beer drops. she will be mine.

If it was sitting in -bals for 8 years I am not going to buy it. People will jizz their pants over it, but it will not be good. 8 months sounds more reasonable. Hell, 8 minutes seems more reasonable than 8 years.
