Hey, I am going to be heading to CA for Coachella music festival. Are there any gems in or around Palm Springs that I need to hit up? Is Bevmo going to be my best bet for bottle shops? Does anybody know if the Bevmo in la Quinta is better then the total wine in Vegas?

I would also like to know, since ill be going to Coachella next week.

I'm going on weekend 1 and I was wondering if anyone else here is going. Perhaps we can do a Coachella beer share on the day before (thursday) Coachella starts?

The beer options in that area aren't great. I've learned it's best to bring your own from home. If you're coming from out of state and flying directly to Palm Springs and don't want to bring bottles with you, the Bevmo in La Quinta is OK, but you won't find anything rare there. If you're flying to LA, Ontario or another airport and driving to Indio, and don't want to bring bottles on your flight, you're best off buying beer in that city before driving to the desert.

Went last Saturday and ended up getting trashed off of Strongbow in the VIP and felt 16 again when I saw Descendents. And then went home with a bad back. All in all a good day ...

The only beer options that you have (general admission) are Heineken and Heineken light. I had a hard time getting drunk at coachella, due to all the walking around and staying hydrated. I'm glad I didn't get a hangover though.

I've heard The Beer Hunter isn't too bad for draft stuff - http://www.laquintabeerhunter.com/. But then again they don't even have a full beer list on their website, so maybe take this recommendation with a grain of salt.

Descendents were one of my favorites of the weekend (which is probably because I was one of the oldest people at Coachella - the last time I saw them was in '82). Although the nice thing about being one of the oldest is that there were pretty much no crowds for any of the bands I wanted to see. I agree that it's tough to get drunk there - the Heineken is ok for quenching thirst, but not something I want to drink in large quantities. Not to mention the fact that you have to drink in designated areas and can't really walk around with a beer.

So true that the crowds for the bands that you wanted to see were small. Got there right after Trash Talk was done playing, so bummed that I missed them (since I havent seen them in a couple years), but did catch The Evens which was cool. Descendents was by far the best set of Saturday ... They were great. Strongbow was an ok choice in the VIP i guess, but they did have mixed drinks as well.

I've been told they added Newcastle this year. While it's not my favorite, I'd pick it over Heineken...

They did. I just brought my own beer and drank before going into the festival. I maintained a buzz for a while and then started to drink water for the rest of the day, and then drank again at night. Restroom lines were never an issue either. I ended up meeting a fellow beer advocate who camped nearby, he spotted me drinking a Ten Fidy.

Trash Talk's set was legendary. Descendents were great. Social D played a great set though it was short. So many good bands. Fun weekend minus all of the dust. That sucked.

For the main beer choices this year it will be Heineken / Heineken Light / Heineken Dark ... There will be craft beers in the VIP areas, but it is usually decided on last minute

Reportedly in the welcome guide that came with this year's wristbands is this mention:

Total Wine in henderson (Las Vegas) is much better than the La Quinta Bevmo.

Well that's kind of awesome. Campground or festival? Though I'm not sure if it really matters too much. I'll mostly likely be sticking to Modern Times and Pizza Port since they'll be much cheaper than what they're selling.
