Nice to meet you tonight. I had four and enjoyed every minute of it. Very tasty and very low key. Was planning on coming home cracking a bomber and making some dinner. Had a great night at the Bad Apple instead. Always good food and CBS on tap. How can you complain?

Just missed you tonight. Thanks for the post. I was finally able to enjoy CBS after many near misses.

Might have to take a train ride up tomorrow and get my first taste of CBS. Any idea of its longevity?

    It's dead.

So yeah, this just happened. Didn't see this thread until, well, 12:12 AM. Took a chance and drove down, fighting nighttime Kennedy construction, then somehow confusing Belmont with Montrose. But finally made it. Pretty empty at 1 AM on a weeknight, maybe 4 customers. No one else drinking CBS. But thankfully, it's still on tap. Not wanting to blow my wad, I start out with a Virtue Cider. Mmm, delicious. And it gives me time to converse with the lovely bartender, watch a Cubs rerun, and be reminded of how amazing is the song "Let Down" by Radiohead. So 1:30 AM, it's time. Get my first-ever pour of CBS. First impression? Nice but not unique nose. Taste is tangy, roasty up front, like a lot of other stouts. HOWEVER once it hits the back of my mouth, it EXPLODES with sweetness. Sweetness that only gets more deep as it warms up. Every sip is better than the last. I savor every drop until near closing time, when I finish my drink. Raise my rating from a 9 to a 9.5 thanks to those last few completely sweet sips. I'm ready to leave, while the bartender unscrews the tap handle. "It's dead," she says, "I just checked and the hose is half-empty." Wow, guess that 3 hour late weeknight excursion was the right call.

I can still taste the sweetness, barely, and I'll never be more happy to be exhausted at work tomorrow.

So, thanks for the heads-up, OP. And please "Like" this post if you absolutely hate my ass right now.

Where is this place? I find it very odd that a bar would get Founders Canadian Breakfast Stout and:

    a) nobody would be drinking it
    b) they wouldn't announce it to their loyal customers so they had a chance to come get some

CBS here in Michigan is VERY hard to find on tap. Maybe you see it an an occasional tap takeover or something, but few and far between.

The Mitten Bar in Ludington had CBS on tap for a good three days this February I believe. My dad was up there and he said him and his nephew were the only ones drinking it on a busy Saturday night.

That's crazy. We had black note in the Flint area and the keg was gone in 40 minutes. Glad this place had some and you all got to try it. It's a truly amazing beer.

Yea man, same place had Black Note and I think that lasted for upwards of a week!!! I even posted it on here and didn't seem to make a difference.

It isn't any easier to find here. I guess there was a keg at Dark Lord Day, tapped at the end of the night when most people were gone. There were a few bottles at a KBS tapping in Kenosha, WI a month or so ago. And I think there was CBS at a tap takeover elsewhere in Chicago over the winter. It's a definite rarity.

This was my first time at Bad Apple -- which is on the fairly busy Lincoln Ave on the north side. Talking to the bartender it sounds like standard practice for them to not announce rare kegs. It isn't a huge restaurant/bar, and from her explanation they tend to operate at capacity most of the time that they are open. So I can't blame them for not making a public to-do about their latest rare keg. Word of mouth seems to be all the publicity they really need.

How late were you there? Just curious if the keg kicked last night or not. May stop in after work for another!

Sigh... SO JEALOUS of the midwest these days. I need to travel more. CBS is proving to be an elusive bitch for me.

At least I got to try Black Note once down here, although that was probably just a fluke.

Beer advocacy at its finest... Haha happened to meet beermefitz at the bad apple last night (thanks again for organizing the beer share event). Chatted a bit over a glass of CBS. The guy leaves and comes back with a mixed 4 pack of new glarus goodness and gives it to me just for the hell of it. Thanks again man... Looking forward to repayment.

Edit: Oh yea, the CBS was good.

Bad Apple is pretty much across the street from Half Acre. They have had a strong beer program for a long time and serve great burgers (and share Kuma's approach with 'extreme toppings') with really friendly staff. During the day on a weekend, you're likely to find a lot of strollers -- which is to say, I just don't think they position themselves as a craft beer bar (like, maybe, Map Room or Local Option) but just a neighborhood bar/restaurant with great beer. Fountainhead is nearby and likely gets more attention for being a craft beer destination.
