That's it, I'm in town this coming Wednesday to Saturday making a beer trip with some friends. Gotta help narrow the list for me. What are the can't be missed places to hit? Any awesome hidden gems (dives even) to drink at? Preferably places with great bottle lists so we can do some vertical tasting and not just the fresh routine stuff. Thanks guys!

    Breweries:
I hear Upright Brewing is good, Saison.
Cascade and HotD are the two most attractive, and I'm becoming a big fan of Hopworks.

    Bottle shops: Belmont Station

Definite spot to hit is Cascade Barrel House and agree with Smurf, Belmont Station is #1 for bottles

Before the NW forums were archived by the recent BA server migration there were numerous threads on 'where to go in Portland?'. Since they aren't available now, I'll just say that all the recommendations so far (Cascade BH, Hair of the Dog, Hopworks and Upright) are all solid.

Belmont Station has arguably the best selection (1200+ bottles) in town but their prices can be beat at The BeerMongers, which has an added bonus of being across the street from Apex, one of the top beer bars (no food, however) with lots of taps and many bottles (some vintage, but all with a healthy mark-up from retail).

If you're in or near downtown, you've gotta give Bailey's Taproom a try (open 4pm-midnight, Mon-Sat). About 100 bottles and 20 taps of often pretty obscure/local stuff.

As for my 'hidden gems', get to New Old Lompoc's 5th Quadrant / SideBar (and nearby HUB Bikebar). Or venture a little further north to Breakside Brewery, which seems to always be doing some clever/crazy one-off beer, plus has good food and a cool 'neighborhood' vibe.

One other thing you might consider doing is the Barleywine Big Beer Fest at Lucky Lab on NW Quimby. It runs Noon-10pm both Friday and Saturday and usually features a pretty great assortment of new and aged high gravity beers. Check out the (partial) lineup: http://beeradvocate.com/events/info/51065

    Cheers,
    Brian

There used to be a map of Portland on the old site that had the buses and distance places were from each other. Sorry I missed saving it.
I've always been a fan of Henry's Tavern on NW 12th & Burnside. Good food, and a good beer line-up!

Damn, your right, now we can't use the "Just the use damn search button" excuse anymore.

Since this new forum software supports stickies, maybe we can compile the ultimate "What/where to eat, drink, sleep and play" thread for PDX and Seattle and get the Bros to pin it to the top. Combined with the unlimited edit function it would be easy to alter posts if places close or if something new pops up.

edit: It also just occurred to me that these forums support polls as well. That could be useful for a thread like this.

I'll be making my first trip to Portland next week. I've gathered a ton of info thanks to all the great BAs here but what would really make this trip for me would be to find some Upright Fantasia. Do any of you local pdx BAs know if it's still on any shelves?

It seems unlikely. The bulk of it was sold out of the brewery, and none of the bottle shops in town got more than 1-2 cases.

Brian mentioned the vintage bottle list at Apex above. Fantasia was in the cooler there last time I went. He also mentioned the healthy markup. $30 a 750ml if you want it bad enough. Outside of that, I think it's gone everywhere else.

Your best bet would be to try and set up an in-person trade, the only other option that I see is to go to Apex, which just isn't as fun.

$30 will piss the wife off for sure. But, I'm sure it would cost that for a trade with shipping so, a pissed off wife it is! haha Thanks for the help guys and sorry to hijack the thread

I posted an ISO a couple days ago, but no response. If anyone is interested in some Cantillon, Singularity, or Megadestroyer and can give up a bottle or two, I'd love to meet up. Oh wait, I have some 2011 Abyss for trade too!!!!!! lol

I don't know how accurate and/or up to date their website is, but the Grain and Gristle lists Fantasia on their bottle list menu. Price is $25, and the food there ain't half bad either.

Of course I'll be the first to admit that the tap list at Apex is much better than the selection at G&G (though their selection isn't bad). Good luck!

Are Grain and Gristle bottles for on-site consumption or to go?

    On-site only...
PS: G&G is supposed to tap a Fantasia keg at some point pretty soon... watch their facebook page (which is also a great place to follow their always-changing 'two-fer' specials...)

Definitely not in the "under the radar/hidden gems" category, but I highly recommend a visit to the Deschutes Pub. Cool space, good food and always some good one-off/brewery-only beers. Plus, it's only about a 10 minute walk over to Bailey's.

And I'll just go ahead and second all of the other suggestions above. You can't really go wrong with any of them. The only one that I'd not make a priority is Henry's, simply for price & all of the other great options in PDX. Regardless though, you'll still find a solid beer list there if you make a stop.
