Today, killing some time, I stopped at my local tap room just to find out they were having the tap system cleaned and it would be awhile before I could have a draft. Knowing that a TGI Friday's was farily close, thought I'd give it a try. WHAT A SHOCK!! Sixteen taps and the craft beer was not my idea of craft beer. They had six:
    1. Sam Adams Boston
    2. Sam Adams Alpine Spring (kicked)
    3. Sierra Nevada pale ale
    4. Blue Moon
    5. Yuengling
    6. Guinness
I ask the bartender (kid) if there was any IPA's on tap or was what I saw was it and he said "We do have Guinness." I ordered a Sierra Nevada and drank it and left. Really disappointed. Bartender (kid) told me old bar manager tried to bring some good local craft beer in (East End, Full Pint, Ithaca, etc) and they would just not sell. I hope this isn't a sign of things to come in this area, although, I
do most of my drinking at home, but it did surprise me. I thought the younger crowd was alittle more into taste.

Uhh that's much better than it would have been at TGI Friday's 10 years ago? Dunno what you're worried about.

A). Were you really that surprised at that selection at a tgi fridays?
B). A lot of times the local craft brewers cant compete with the keg price of a bmc. Such was the case at one of my local places. Met the bartender at a different bar when he was off and he said the kegs of bmc were half the price of one of our local breweries.

That's pretty much what I would expect going into a Fridays, the only shock here is they had a "kid" as the bartender. Here in Illinois you have to be 21 to tend bar.

That's actually not bad for TGI Fridays.....hell I don't even think ours has SNPA, but I'd take that.

A TGIF or similar chain restaurant in New England you will more often that likely get Shipyard and Harpoon beers. Whatever region youre in you'll get the big craft breweries from that region. Thats how UNO is and Im guessing TGIF is the same way.

    TGIF? WTF!

If you want great craft beer, you need to go to Applebee's or Chili's. Sheesh!

I don't think what you find at TGIFriday's has anything to do with where the craft beer movement is going.

Yeah, TGIF isn't a place you want to go for beer. You mentioned East End. You in the Pittsburgh area?

Take a DEEP breath. The craft beer industry is doing fine. There are craft breweries popping up all the time brewing some incredible beers. You just have to find the right places. While you are here on BA go to the upper left corner of this site and click places. BA can help direct you where to go. They will help you will find your way.

Come on! What do you want from Friday's, it's a gimmick joint all the way. And, if I'm correct, the visit was a Thursday afternoon, so the senior bartenders are not on duty. The 'kid' said Guiness, maybe he likes it. Hey, on the posted list Guiness is my second choice after SNPA..am I now 'non-craft', omg?!?

As far as "Where's the craft beer movement going?" It looks like Fridays knows where; right to the bank.

Unbunch your panties, OP, you'll be ok.

I'd seriously jump for joy if any of the nearby chain restaurants I live near ever offered SNPA...

You're complaining when you had those 6 to choose from?
I hate when the beer menu in the chain restaurants is Bud, Bud light, Miller Light, Coors Light, Corona and Heineken. Period.

Pints of SNPA could keep me occupied for a while.
