Founded in 1996 by the Alström Brothers, BeerAdvocate (commonly referred to as "BA") is one of the oldest and largest online communities of beer geeks and industry professionals dedicated to supporting and promoting beer. And, using Respect Beer as our motto, our original goals remain true today:

The following will help explain the basics behind the ratings and stats for beer, breweries, and other beer-centric places.

BeerAdvocate (BA) Score
The BA Score is the beer's overall score against all active beers or within its style category. Scores are generated using a custom Bayesian (weighted rank) formula in order to provide consumers with a quick reference using a format that's familiar to the wine and liquor worlds.
