Came here for supper on a roadtrip to Yellowstone. Stopped at three or four different brewpubs along the way, but this was by far the best. The food was excellent, especially the enchilada bites, and the beer was even better. This was the only place I've ever been able to find a pomegranate beer (and it was good, though I assume seasonal). Custer's Last Stout and their Pale ale were both phenomenal, great examples of their respective styles. I made a three hour detour just to check out the city of Billings and it this was probably the highlight.
The only negative comment I'll make is that the server, although helpful regarding the food menu, was unable to make any recommendations regarding beer as he was only 18. In fact he said he didn't even believe in the idea of drinking beer, or that it was a good idea - something to that effect. It was a little confusing. Safe to say he probably should not have either applied to or been hired by the Montana Brewing Company, which I assume has its beer firstly in mind.
Anyway, it was an overall great experience and I'd return again with the hopes that my server is a little more beer-savvy - at least with the beers he's serving.

Was driving through Montana, on my way to Oregon, and this seemed like a good lunch spot.
Located in downtown Billings, MBC is fairly sizeable brewpub restaurant, that put me in find of a Chili's or Applebee's when I came in off the street. As you walk-in from the side, you seen a fair size wrap around bar, with a good size dining area to the left. There's a few "custer's last stand" decorations around, and the red painted walls give the place a warm vibe. There were also several TV's over the bar area, this day turns to opening day baseball. There were roughly 12 tap handles this day, which I thought bode well for the selection at MBC. However, it turned out that they had just 6 or 7 beers on tap this day, along with one cider. I tried the espresso porter, custer's last stout, an IPA and the smoked rye. All were fairly decent, with the porter and smoked rye the more interesting of the options available. I'm not sure if it's the result of some ordinance or if this was intentional by MBC, but all of the beers were in the 5% range. I don't believe there was anything over 6% abv. In any event, while the beers here weren't bad, nothing I tried was so good that I felt the need for a full glass (I stayed with the sampler glasses). Service was OK. My bartender was pleasant enough, in a TGIF kind of way. This isn't the sort of place where I think you can expect a whole lot of information from the staff. As for food, I went with the Ceaser salad. It was pretty much your typical lackluster salad that you would expect to get at any large chain restaurant. It didn't help that a fair number of the romain lettuces leaves were wilted or soiled looking.
Shrug. An OK stop with OK beer, but if I'm back in Billings again, I think I'll try someplace else.

big establishment right in the middle of old downtown. it has a nice outside area, and really fills up at night. theve got about nine beers on, all of which are decent, a few of which are wonderful. the swan son ipa was a winner, as was the stillwater rye. the food was alright, good wings and sandwiches, but nothing too out there. our waitress was brutally bad, and id give service a rotten score, but the bartender inside was great, lots of free samples, good knowledge, and conversation, so ill keep it at a 3. girls were dressed to the nines, but not attentive. no waters, small plates for apps, nothing. seemed odd. prices were fair enough though, and the beer was good, and thats all that matters. ill probably be back here in my lifetime, but i dont think this is the best brewery in billings.

had dinner here during a recent business trip to Billings.
the atomosphere was about average, there was a bar and some high-top tables around the bar, and then a regular dining area in the back half. brew tanks were visible through some windows.
I had the Fat Belly Amber with my food, but unfortunately I had to be up early so couldn't stay later to sample more of their beers. but they had a decent selection, I guess their 4 regulars and then I think 3 or 4 other seasonals/ special selections.
food was great, my burger was nice and juicy, and the fries were good too.
pretty good value, as my beer and burger came to a little more than ten bucks. which is probably average for Montana, but would be a deal back home in the Philly suburbs.

My girlfriend and I stopped in at Montana Brewing Company while driving cross country. We were a little early for dinner, and we were seated fairly quickly. We had out of state ID's, and were a bit frustrated to have to get our passports out of the car.
The beer was pretty good, although they were out of a couple things. We milked our pints, as we had a long drive ahead of us. The food was alright, but not as good as our previous stop the night before at Fitgers in Duluth. One of my last french fries tasted moldy, everything was good up until it, but it left a bad taste in my mouth.

I stopped in here for lunch while I was on vacation in Montana. This is a very nice place for a beer and a meal. There is a rectangle shaped bar with some tables around it, a large dinning area in the back, and a nice patio outside. Very chill and relaxed. The service was really good. The bartenders might not have known as much about the beer as I would like, but they were very prompt and enthusiastic. The food was OK. I had a pastrami sandwich that was decent. The sweet potato chips were awesome though. I came back latter (see below) and had a pizza. That was not all that great. Nothing bad, just average.
The beer was really good. I had several beers over the course of my vacation. A great rye and stout with an above average Scottish/Amber Ale. A pretty good APA and Hefe as well (even if it was not to my tastes exactly). It was all fresh, and very high quality. Overall, a great place to have for a local brewpub. I wish I had a place like this in Houston. Highly recommended.
EDIT: I came back for lunch before my flight left from Billings. I ordered a pizza, and the cook burned it. The manager came out and told me before I even knew what happened. I did not have time to eat it there because of my flight. So they remade the pizza, put it in a to go box free of charge. No service is ever going to be perfect anywhere. All anyone can ask for is they do the best they can. The situation could not have been handled any better. This place is great.

I was a little worried coming in because Billings stinks, the hotels are lousy, and the downtown area was dead. Except, that is, for the patio of the Montana Brewing Company, and with good reason.
Although there is certainly nothing special about the building or the place itself, it gives off a very "at home" feeling. The service is good, the beer is very good, and the food is excellent.
The Golden and Berry Golden are both very good, the latter manages to be extremely palatable to non-beer drinkers while still tasting like a beer to me, which is hard to do. The darks are outstanding, but my favorite was a seasonal rye that was so different and complex, my dining partner had to drive us home.
The plate of asiago pasta across the table from me was simply outstanding, and the peppered elk burger I put down was well above average. But what made the meal was the sweet potato fries. I absolutely love good sweet potato fries, and these were probably the 2nd best I've ever had. They're circular and cut thin like a chip, yet retains the texture and thickness of a fry. Maybe because of this it retains all of its sweet potato goodness, and comes with a great dipping sauce that I ended up not even using.
Dinner was topped off with dessert that, while decent, was probably not worth the indulgence. We shared the cherry tart pizza that was unique, but uninspiring.
Overall, well worth the trip, and I'd recommend it to anyone trying to decide which city stop in on a pub tour.

The atmosphere was a nice sort of average. It looked like a regular brewpub, a lot of space, a square bar in the center and some extra table room in section farther back. Everything was of good quality, the decor, the food and the beer. It looked like a place for late 20-30 somethings to hang out in. The service was great, very attentive and nice, even a little chatty. The beer selection was very good, with about 12 offerings it seemed. I tried about 8 of them and the ones that stood out the most where the strawberry blonde and the pale ale. The pale ale was awesome, very similar to alpha king. The food was pretty good as well. The white pizza was quite nice, but the sweet potato fries were a little soggy. I put the value at inexpensive because growlers were apparently 5 dollars, and they seem to have a lot of deals to lower the price of their beer. The 3-4 oz 8 piece sampler was only 7$ as well. Great deal.

Just as I was beginning to despair that nothing would open before 1600 and it was only 1300 and I was ravenously hungry, I happened upon the MTBC. It being summer during the time of my visit, they had an extensive fenced-in patio area with a canopy overhead. A fickle finger of fate pointed me to "Use Main Door." Aye aye. Main door, vestibule, button-hook right, and I was in. The big, rectangular, polished blonde-wood bar was on a right oblique with high tables and chairs running the circumference of the bar area. Slightly aft of the bar, on the left side, was a cabinet filled with logo items, including an embroidered sweatshirt. Further aft of that was the brewhouse and seven FVs, all visible behind glass, followed by the restaurant area. The kitchen was in the aft part of the restaurant, on the right side. My ebullient server was Amber, but Candy and Courtney also made frequent visits to talk to the out-of-towner. It was a quite easy-on-the-peepers waitstaff. After lunch, I segued up to the bar and hung out with John, Jim, and Casey, all regulars from what I gathered.
For lunch, I had the Smoked Salmon Pasta, which was a bargain, considering how much salmon was included. It also set the tone for the rest of my trip as I began scarfing down salmon like a bear along a stream. I was also intrigued by a menu item called "Grass and Hay", but I was a bear, not a horse. That entree consisted of artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and garlic in a light cream sauce atop liguine and garnished with spinach.
Beers: The standards included Sandbagger Gold; Whitetail Wheat; Fatbelly Amber; Sharptail Pale Ale; and Custer's Last Stout. The seasonals included Huckleberry (!) Wheat; a Belgian-Style Strong Ale; and an IPA. Not a clinker in the lot, but as usual, IPA went perfectly with salmon.

I went to the Montana Brewing Company for dinner while visiting family for New Years. The restaurant is formatted so that the front section is the bar area, with smaller tables circling around it. I was a little put off by the loud music seeing as how I had come for dinner with 6 other people, but the rear restaurant section was much more reasonable as it's quite separated from the bar. The place is built in an old electric company building, so it has plenty of charm. All along the left side there are big glass windows showing their brewing equipment. I had three beers, which were all good, as well as a BBQ cheese burger which was quite good. Their selection was good, and although I got some cheese dip spilled on me, apologizing waiters descended upon me immediately to clean it up. Overall, this place would be great for dinner or for stopping in for a pint.
