22 oz bottle
Poured a deep mahogany colored body with a thin head.
Smells of chocolate, raisins and a slight coffee tang.
Slight coffee tang with chocolate and roasted malt/nuts.
Thin body, almost a milk stout style, but with more alcohol
Very nice and easy on the palate with nice finish.

A - poured into goblet, a standard imperial stout black, with obvious viscosity causing a glugging effect. Head about 1 finger, solid tan, and receded quickly to a consistent thin ring of foam. not much lacing to speak of
S - roasted malt, surprising alcohol presence, caramel sweetness with a touch of coffee. not very strong on the nose
T - chocolate, touch of coffee, decent alcohol character, not all that surprising considering the supposed abv. slightly less prominent are the hint of smoke, the faint presence of vanilla, and a very light, fading note of darker fruit on the back. Pretty well rounded stout. Only drawback to these flavors is that none seem prominent, and it's just a little messy and jumbled.
M - Thick, smooth, great carbonation when agitated, kinda creamy. All around excellent mouthfeel
O - I would drink this beer again, no doubt. As to whether I can say it's a GREAT or WORLD CLASS imperial stout... neither one. It has its charm, it's certainly drinkable, but unfortunately it's outshined due to lack of direction and a sloppy execution.

Poured from 22 oz bomber into a pint glass. Black as night with a thick brown head that laces down the glass.
Aroma is kind of lacking for a stout. Lots of sweet maltiness almost gives it a hint of a soda flavor, which is unusual for a stout, but characteristic of many Rahr beers. Everything improves as it warms.
Flavor follows the nose. Good stout, but overly sweet and would benefit from some chocolatey or coffee flavor balance. Mouth is nice and creamy, but a touch thin.
Overall a good but not great stout, certainly not my favorite, but I enjoy having Rahr as a local option.

I recently found and eagerly purchased a 22 oz bottle of Rahr Brewery’s Snowmageddon Anniversary Ale. The style is American Double Imperial Stout. The anniversary part of the label pays homage to the snow storm that caused the brewery’s roof to collapse in February 2010. This is a seasonal brew for Rahr. Rahr does not list ABV on the bottle nor on their website. Rahr needs to get their act together and list ABV on each and every bottle.
BeerAdvocate lists the ABV at a hefty 10% however I’m not sure if that is from their research or reported by reviewers.
This beer pours pitch black with two to three fingers of a thick brown head.
Aromas of roasted malt, coffee beans and caramel greet the nose with hints of cocoa.
Flavors of malty sweetness, coffee, and dark fruits like raisins and dates are prominent and rich.
Mouth feel is velvety and viscous with a lingering, flavorful finish
This beer really delivers on the factors I like in a beer of this style.

Darkest brown, opaque, thin tan head that is quick to trim to a skim, finally bald cap.
Not the strongest aroma, honestly not much going on here. Some burnt caramel and sweeter notes, bitter chocolate, very minor dark fruit notes.
Herbal, roasty malt, bitter chocolate, rum, and some hoppy bitter edge in it too. Not the strongest taste for style, but a lot going on here that builds, and it ends strong and herbal. Good beer that might benefit from a bit lighter treatment of rooty flavors. A touch mediciny as it warms.
Highly viscous, low carb., resinous, with finish that could be a touch cleaner, and flavor profile with a touch too much rooty flavor in finish.
All in all a good beer looking to be a Texas Abyss, but there can only be one Abyss. Worth a shot for sure if you see this on shelf

Thanks to Tieman for sharing this one at his tasting.
Pours a clear dark brown with a foamy dark khaki head that settles to wisps of film on top of the beer. Small streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of dark roasted malt, cocoa, and caramel aromas. Taste is much the same with a medium hop bitterness with each sip. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty good beer but it has a fairly bitter hop flavor that doesn't work all that well in my opinion.
