I had this beer at The Flying Saucer in Dallas. It was poured into a pint glass.

This the first pale bock I have had and was pretty impressed with the style. It had a nice honey color with medium lacing and fingers. Definetly reminded me of a helles bock. Head was light with low retention. It had a nice aroma of grass, lemon and malts. First taste you get is citrusy followed with some earthy tones from the hops and finishes a slighty dry. Had a good feel in the mouth with light carbonation and a nice crisp finish. Was a tad thin but nothing to be disappointed about. A good overall beer for my first pale bock.

Served in a standard pint, the beer is a hazy apricot with a rim of off-white head.

Nose of grains and a bit of fruit.

The taste starts with milled grains, some plum and a bit of spicy hops (pepper) in the finish.

The mouth is just a good combination of medium thickness and a bit of slickness.

I liked it, the original WI roots of the brewery show.

A hazy golden with a touch of amber. Smells of clean malt, a hint of alcohol and a hint of diaycytal. Taste is rich and malty, clean middle, and a hint of bitterness in the finish. This is a malt oriented beer that is quite pale, somewhat rare to find. Mouthfeel is rich, slightly high carbonation. Good drinkability, I did not realize it was 7.5 percent ABV until I went to review the beer, the alcohol is nearly undetectable. I would get this again.

Had this on tap at the flying saucer. It came in a pint glass with a 3 finger head. The color was a golden color with a white head. The smell was malty and the taste followed suit with just a touch of grassy hops in the end. The mouthfeel was very clean and had a little bit of carbonation in it. Overall this was a very good beer, I hope to be able to buy a 6er of this for enjoyment at home.

Sort of sunset orange that fades a little lighter toward the bottom and edges of the glass. No head, no cap and no lacing whatsoever. Couldn't even agitate to make it happen. But there is plenty of visible carbonation, so it's not dead.

Not much on the scent. Slight cola and medicinal qualities. After much agitation, a faint and quite undesirable (in my opinion) sour scent makes its way to the surface.

A bit grainy and bready. Nothing special here.

Really strong carbonation bite. It pretty much overpowers everything else. Very remeniscent of a soda. Easily the most carbonated (or maybe I should say over-carbonated) beer I've ever had. Slightly bitter on the finish and aftertaste. It is, however, pretty impressive that the high ABV is so well hidden. I didn't catch a hint of it at all.

No reason to want another of these. Plus the 8% ABV really sneaks up on you. I guess that could be one reason to have another, but I'll pass.

A- Deep golden color. 1 inch head drops to a thin layer. Carbonation visible for duration of experience.

S- Sweat malty goodness. Tinge of honey. Slight alcohol aroma.

T- Smooth malt which sweatens as it warms. Thick honey on the tongue. No alcohol taste at all!!! No bitterness but very clean.

M- Medium to full bodied. Good carbonation. Loosens the tongue quickly.

D- Very smooth. If I wouldn't get hammered from drinking more than two, I would drink this all the time. Very big beer without being to heavy. Goes down too easy, watch yourself. I started to lose fealing in my legs.

Pours a clear deep gold with minimal head. Aroma is faint, barely malty and sweet.

Taste is lightly malty, toasty and sweet with elements of light caramel. Just the mere hint of hop presence with that characteristic nutty, pungent bock flavor. Overall, a very clean, gentle flavor profile with no trace of alcohol, despite its uncharacteristic ABV.

Mouthfeel is light and smooth, drinkability is extremely high -- deceptive, almost too smooth, as I downed a liter before realizing as it kicked me in the head. Would this qualify as an Imperial maibock? Another winner from Rahr.

[edit] After the first batch, Fritz tinkered with the recipe just a little. Slightly darker (more of a copper color), a touch maltier, maybe a faint metallic element. Good/bad balances out, so I'm leaving the numbers the same.

12 oz. bottle poured into pilsener

L: orange ... kind of cool, a pale, light murky orange; small light white head of 1/8 to 1/4-inch foam that disipates quickly; slight lacing

S: weak grain with sliver of malt sweetness on top that adds a bit of character; hints of hops (citrusy) but mostly weak grain with the good malt

T: first sip is perfect, great sweetness with a slight spicy hop bite; it devolves quickly into the medicinal taste i keep finding in bocks, though it's not unrinkable or offensive; the hops often bite up front and there's an occasional note of grain, though the malt helps sweeten the finish nicely; a few citrus notes

F: crisp, clean, moderate carbonation for a solid midweight brew

O: not bad at all, not necessarily an award winner -- about 1/2 in the toasted barley sweetness really makes this beer a solid serving from beginning to end. it's good enough that I'll definitely try it some more and look for it when it first comes out next season. one of Rahr's better offerings.

Pours a handsome clear orangey golden color in the Crooked Line tulip. A nice aroma of melon and caramel with some phenols. Warm, smooth, and rich. On the sweet side, but a nice edge of hoppy bitterness and some tangy flavors. Spicy and a little sharp, like tangerines with some bitterish skin. Ends on a bitter note with some hoppy aromatics. Lingering nose of citrus and some warm grain.

I'm bucking the trend on this one. It's one of the best Maibocks I've had, though it's not my favorite German style. Very drinkable and just strong enough when you want a more substantial glassful. From the six pack bought at Depot Liquor in Brownwood, Texas.

A nice Texas-brewed Maibock/Helles Bock. Pours a crystal clear golden color with a fizzy head that fades fairly fast. Smells of toasted malts, light spicy Noble hops, and a little lemon peel. More spicy hop on the tongue with a light malt backbone. Slightly bitter aftertaste. 7.5% alcohol content is well hidden. I wish it were a little sweeter since the Maibock is supposed to be a paler version of the traditional Bock. Still a great beer though.

Deep golden color, not much head retention and leaves a fizzy surface. Smells like hops. Taste hops dominate and an overall strong flavor, more going on here than a Shiner. Sweet malty long finish. Mouth is medium body with average carbonation. Overall, the beer has good taste, 7.5% abv and is $8 bucks a six pack

A: This pours a clear golden body with a thin white head that quickly fades.

S: Really not much there.... There is a bit of malt and some lager yeast. Other than that its very weak.

T: There is a strong amount of malt that lingers on the palate for a long while. Still not much there..

M: This isnt too bad and goes down pretty smooth. It leaves a full feeling in the mouth and has a bit of crispness on the back of the tongue and throat.

O: This is just an average beer. Really nothing I would crazy about and not worth the 9.50 I paid.

Poured 12oz bottle into maudite tulip

A- Pours light gold with a slight red hue to it. Very small head but it stays around and has a mid level of lacing.

S- Very malty smell, lots of caramel

T- Tastes very malty, bready and some caramel like the smell. The after taste is peppery from the hops but other than that there is not a lot of hop flavor.

M- Very carbonated. Almost has a spicy mouthfeel right up front.

O- A decent rendition of a bock. May not be the freshest at this point but still was decent. I will definitely pick some up next spring to compare.

One of my all time favorite bock beers. I still love Hoffbrau's Maibock the best, but this is a solid beer and shouldn't be missed. Bucking Bock is a smooth bock that is not too strong or too weak, which makes it a beer than can be enjoyed on a daily basis for just casual drinking.

12 oz bottle pours a very clear gold color, darker than most helles bocks, yet not as dark as regular bocks. Moderate white head fades fairly fast and leaves a light collar and sheen behind.

Nose is grainy and caramely with a grassy hop presence. Smells pretty fresh and has a nice lagery clean aroma.

Taste has a nice balance of grain, sweetness and drying hops. Light caramely sweetness is nice, pretty true to style. I am surprised by the low overall grade this beer has, I think it is a tasty helles bock, maybe a little lower on the hops than many of the American renditions, but I prefer that in a bock anyway. Freshness would be my major concern, but I seem to have a decently fresh sample here.

Poured from bottle to Sam Adams glass.

A - Plenty of bright white head. Light and clear gold color. Looks refreshing. Some carbonation.

S - Smells malty. Maybe a little biscuity, possibly some citrus.

T - Strikes me as very similar to Shiner Bock, one of my more regular brews. Nothing really stands out, however.

M - Very smooth and easy to drink. Not too heavy and not too light – a good choice as a medium beer. Slightly bitter aftertaste.

Summary - A decent beer overall. Good for parties with guests who prefer something other than the lighter junk out there. Not a bad beer, and one I would drink on occasion, but is basically a clone of Shiner Bock, so I'll probably stick with that.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass, I picked this up from Central Market in Fort Worth while we were staying with a friend. The beer pours an orange-gold coloring with a thick, light, foamy white head that quickly settles into a layer of film. Lots of carbonation bubbles present in the brew. Citrusy sweet smells with some light spicing. Flavors are dynamic, with slight citrus, caramel sweet, and light coriander spice characteristics. The beer has a semi-sour aftertaste, with a lingering finish. A little rough at the end, which is a hit to an otherwise decent beer.

I poured a 12 oz bottle into a glass mug...

The beer was a clear golden color with an average sized white head with tight bubbles. Smells very sweet, lots of malt, with some lemon and pepper. The taste is also very sweet, lots of bready flavor with some bitter lemon hops on the back of the tongue. The beer is kind of heavy, the alcohol is detectable, and it has a nice lingering finish. This is a well done bock, I enjoyed the balance how it started sweet and finished bitter.

The beer pours a golden orange color with a small white head. The aroma is a mix of bready malt with a little bit of sweetness. It smells about like you expect a helles bock to smell like.

The flavor is a also very malt. There is a little bit of alcohol present and some sugary sweetness. I also get a little bit of citrus and grassy notes, possibly from the hop combination.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not a great beer, but not undrinkable by any means.

Hazy amber color. Tiny specks of sediment drift all over the place. Two finger head is reduced to a skim after several minutes. Minimal retention, ok lacing from the mid-point on.

The nose is malty with a pervasive grassy aroma. Biscuit, toasted bread & a minute hint of sweetness. Overtones of citrus hops via lemon zest.

Bucking Bock tastes similar to the the aroma; malts are in full force, manifest in a subtle sweetness. Toasted malts & sweetness make up the core flavors. Hops are used sparingly; a restrained bitterness appears toward the finish. Undertones of yeast.

Somewhere between medium & light bodied. Little bit of grittiness in there. Carbonation is low & quite smooth. Grassy & bitter residuals linger on the finish.

Bucking Bock is an easy drinker - not particularly complex, but rather tasty. It doesn't at all drink like 7.5% abv, though it's warming by the end. Not bad, not bad.

Recieved as extra from JJFoodie. Poured into pint glass from 12oz bottle. Pours golden with 2 finger almost white head with fine beads. Smells of sweet honey malts, citrus and piney hops. Taste is the same with less hop bitterness. Light to medium body with good carbonation. Drinkability is so-so.

I drank this from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass.

The beer pours a dark clear gold with an off white head. Good retention ok lacing.

The aroma is light malt with wheat, but mostly skunk.

The taste is ok but to much like an American macro lager with a stronger feel.

The feel is warm with a bitter finish.

Overall, this was pretty bad.

Got this in a PIF from GregSVT. Thanks brother!

Appearance - poured into a Rahr Ugly Pug Pint Glass a clear gold color with a thin creamy half inch of white foam. A closer look shows lots of tiny stuff in suspension.

Aroma - nice grain bread smell. Not overwhelming but pleasant

Taste - Very water and a bit sour ... very acidic. Was not expecting the sourness from this style and did not leave a great taste in the mouth. After taste was a bit unpleasant.

Mouthfeel - crisp with a bit of smoothness.

Drinkability - Is this a bock? It was way watered down and the flavors that were present did compliment very well.

Appearance - golden color and a nice white head.
Smell - a very sweet and boozy hint.
Taste/ Mouthfeel - nothing really stood out about this beer, just a run of the mill bock style.
Drinkability - I went through my 6 in about 2 months so it wasn't something that I wanted to get through or got too excited about. They were nice while I had them but I might move onto something else from the brewery next time in Texas.
