750mL bottle poured into a tulip. Thanks again to Matt for sharing!

(A)- Pours nearly pitch black in color. Produced an absolute mountainous tan fluffy head with huge clumps of lacing left behind once it finally dissipated; perfect retention.

(S)- An obvious coffee grounds aroma up front. Quite dry behind that with a bit of biscuit and cocoa.

(T)- Again, very coffee forward. Touches of a creamed coffee type flavor in the middle with bits of pepper and biscuit. The faintest hint of a dry oaky tartness at the end.

(M)- A good carbonation level and balance. Lets be honest, very little about this beer reminds me of a saison since it is so coffee forward, but it does have a nice feel to it overall. The ever so slightly bitter and tart at the end is a nice play for the beer's complexity.

(O)- Despite this being quite the oddball for the style, I really enjoyed the trip this took me on. Unique to say the least, but it just works somehow. I applaud Jolly Pumpkin on their ingenuity when it came to make this beer a reality.

750ml bottle into tulip. Bottled 4/25/2012. Thanks Jay.

A: Bottle was a slow motion gusher but poured a deep dark brown color with a huge, billowing light tan head, that slowly faded to a very rocky film leaving a network of super patchy clinging lace down the glass.
S: Sour tart coffee nose, citrus acidity, dry tartness, black coffee, and hints of dark fruits.
T: Not as tart as nose, mild coffee, mild roast, lightly sweet, lemon tartness, no acid, peppery spice, hint of orange, stone fruits, and Belgian yeast. Slight anise. Drying finish.
M: Medium body, drying, clean, low soft carbonation. Could use a tiny bit more carbonation.
O: Dark roasted saison. Love the tart quality and dryness. Coffee works but barely. Interesting. Solid.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass, bottled on 4/24/2012. Pours almost black extremely dark reddish brown color with a nice 2 finger dense and fluffy light khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice thick soapy lacing clings on the glass; with a nice amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big coffee, roasted malt, sour apple, cherry, dark chocolate, cocoa, hay, grass, pepper, clove, funk, earth, and spicy yeast esters. Fantastic aromas with great balance, strength, and complexity of coffee, roasted malt, and fruity funk notes. Taste of sour apple, cherry, coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, cocoa, pepper, clove, hay, grass, funk, earth, oak, and yeast spiciness. Fair amount of fruity tartness on the finish with roasted coffee bitterness; and lingering notes of coffee, cocoa, dark chocolate, tart fruits, clove, pepper, hay, grass, earth, and yeast spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Fantastic flavor robustness, balance, and big complexity of roasted flavors, funk, and spiciness; with zero cloying flavors present after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a fairly creamy, slick, and prickly mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic wild saison brewed with coffee! Very unique; with great balance and complexity of coffee, roasted notes, and wild funkiness; and extremely smooth to sip on. A highly enjoyable offering!
