750mL poured to a tulip. Bottle dated 10-24-2011.

Appearance: Pours a burnt amber orange with a rocky, one finger, bright white head. The contrast between the two makes for a fiery vividness. Moderate splotches of lace on the glass.

Smell: Dusty wood amid citrus undertones, wet hay, and a little lemon. Sour, fruity esters meld with spiced nutmeg and mullins spice. Kind of dark, musty, and mysterious.

Taste: Tangerines and oranges spiced with cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, and some mullin spices swarm the palate Tart, fruity esters that follow the nose and a little oak midway through. Finishes smooth with a lingering creamy Belgian yeast and a little acidity. There's a darker, creaminess in the taste that reminds me a lot of white chocolate or even buttermilk.

Mouthfeel: Dry in acidity like a wine, while still offer some juicy textures. Nicely carbonated with a medium body that is tart and dark.

Interesting beer from Jolly Pumpkin. Don't really get any of the roasted chestnuts... JP beers have a very distinct feel to them and this one was no different.

Poured from 750ml bottle into my wee 4oz sampler mug at World Expo of Beer in Frankenmuth, Michigan.

Appearance: Poured as smoothly as possibly, eliminating any head that may have come up otherwise. A red, cinnamon color. Very attractive.

Smell: Hey, speaking of cinnamon ... a spicy cinnamon sort of nose. Sort of fruity.

Taste: My first of the style, and... interesting. Cinnamon, fruit, sour, tart, sweet... it's all over the place and should be a mess, but it isn't. I've not had a beer like this before, and I'm glad to finally have gotten the chance to try some Jolly Pumpkin. It's a good beer that I'd buy in 12oz bottles, but I wouldn't ever see myself buying a 750ml.

A - It is orange in color with some golden highlights. Each pour yields a generous white head.

S - It has a nice sour smell to it with some dish soap aroma from the hops. The smell reminds me of sour apples and pears.

T - It has a nice tartness to it. It is dry and effervescent. A lingering tart presence grows as it warms. I notice some fruit flavors, peach, pear, and apple.

M - Thin with lots of carbonation.

O - This is one of the better Jolly Pumpkin beers that I have tried. I like the tartness of it. It is quite enjoyable.

Poured in a tulip glass.

A: Rich-amber color. Translucent. Pours a finger of head that retreats to a film with a moderate rim. Minimal lacing.

S: Traditional jolly pumpkin sour yeasty smell. A mild funk and slight spice (nutmeg/allspice) hints.

T: Moderately sour. Not sweet at all. Sour yeast comes through prominately. Moderate oak. Mild spice and nutty finish.

M: Moderate body. Moderatly smooth. Fine carbonation.

O: I greatly enjoy sours, and most of Jolly Pumpkin beers for that matter. This is very near the top of the JP list. I will grab several of these each season. I certainly recommend this beer if you enjoy sours, especially ones that are not on the sweeter side.
