Deerskin brown, very hazy, with moderate carbonation. Topped with two fingers of beige head.

It's the scent of nuts, and chocolate, with weizen qualities in the yeast.

The taste is of chocolate and almonds, with a hint of dankness like that of a fruit cellar.

The mouth feel is soda like, with a hint of stickiness that coats the tongue.

I got this one yesterday at beer lab. Drinking it in Chang Mai, November 12, 2017. It's a really good brew, supposedly a biere de guard, which is what I consider it to be.

A: Although the beer originally poured out light amber, it quickly changed to a light brown and very hazy light brown hue as yeast particles started coming out of the bottle. It poured with a thin beige head that died down, leaving a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of yeast and nutty and chocolate malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste is similar to the smell and also has some hints of dark fruits. No bitterness is perceptible.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer is easy to drink and not bad for a French beer that's not brewed near the Belgian border. It's particularly interesting if you like yeast and bits of nutty malts.

Beer bottle (33 c.), tasted in 2009.

Appearance : steady amber color, with white foam head (not persistent).
Smell : ester nose, chestnuts ?
Taste and mouthfeel : very mild malt flavour, with yeasty notes.
Drinkability : an average beer in the style "bière de garde" ?

Girlfriend brought a bottle of this back from Grenoble. Pours a tawny leather kind of colour, with a HUGE off-white head. Slightly red-tinted, actually, when held to the light. Attractive. Retention is not what I was expecting, based on the other review, but decent. Good lace.

Smell: Malty, mostly in the toast/biscuit way. A good bit of earthy, citric hops as well. Nuttiness... not sure, not much anyway. A bit of a straw note that brings pilseners to mind, but malt-dominant.

Taste: Caramel maltiness resembles cola a bit too much. Citric hoppiness. Pleasant, earthy aftertaste. A bit of dry cocoa powder in the aftertaste as well. Actually improves as it warms. Toast and nuttiness come out a bit more. Balance improves. Take this into account when serving.

Mouthfeel: Acidic, carbonation a little too spritzy. Creamy body, though.

Drinkability: good

Wonderful thick dense, soft and creamy head, looking very smooth and lasting forever (really). Pretty hazy copper color. It deseres a 5 for the head. Truly amazing.

The smell is very herbal, reminding me a big of a tea bag, some mint, hints of straw too. This is supposed to be a nut beer, but I can't smell or taste the nut. It's more a hoppy beer. Maybe the brewing process by infusion favors the hops. Very chewy and grassy, quite citric, almost tart hops. Maybe a light humid nut peel impression, when the nut is fresh and not dry yet. Woody and earthy too. The mouthfeel is creamy and quite round. Good sensation in the mouth. Weird at first, I got into it after a while. I lowered down the taste to a 3.5 for the weakness of the nut aspect. Had I not known it was a nut beer, it would have been a 4.
