A-Pours with a dark orange stream and looks like very dark cider once settled. The half-inch white head looses itself into the beer rather quick and leaves a few big bubbles. Good lacing. Only thing throwing me off is the rather light color for a brown ale, but still dark enough.

S-Sweet, slightly roasty malt is present. The majority of the aroma is citrus hops. A little bit of booze and a touch of "unidentifiable" spice.

T- Sweet with a nice, citrusy hop middle. Tastes like light grapefruit with a touch of coffee near the end. Not bad, very different for a "brown ale". Alcohol present with a very subtle but nice hop bitterness. Minimal roastyness. The lingering flavor is of biscuit and nuts.

M- Very nice, slick body. Moderate carbonation and it leaves your tongue oily. Fairly heavy mouthfeel, but it works.

O- This is by no stretch of the imagination a traditional brown ale; i might not even call it an American brown ale. The subtle coffee and chocolate notes often present in the style are barely seen in Lyndale but replaced with piney hops. I like this beer, though. Never had it, but i'd expect the More Brown Than Black IPA to taste like this...

Poured into a pint glass.

3.5 A: Well hazed orange amber color, which is a strange color for something called a brown ale. One and a half fingers of frothy beige head. Retention is good and a short ring of lacing is left. Yeasties suspended throughout.

3.5 S: Despite the appearance, it smells like a brown ale. Lots of toastiness with a hazelnutty nuttiness. Grainy malts with a moderate sweetness.

3.5 T: Tastes like it smells. Toasty, nutty, grainy. Moderate neutral malt sweetness with some crystal malt. Super clean despite being unfiltered. Tasty.

3.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Lightly creamy and super smooth.

3.5 D: Fairly typical brown, but that not a bad thing because it means it's tasty. Good throughout.

Picked up a single at Princetons Liquors in Maple Grove. It's a just a big, roasty brown ale with a share of toffee, and then balance from a measure of citrus hops. It's not overly sweet, or bitter, or thick, but rather a nice amplification of the style. Brown ale lovers should check it out.

Reviewed from notes.

A. Reddish brown in color with a three finger sudsy soap foam head, medium levels of lacing left behind, excellent retention.

S. At first, I got a mead-like scent which eventually dissipated and never returned. Once stabilized, it smells like a toasted praline pastry, loads of pecans and perhaps walnuts on top of a toffee/ molasses base. Gentle earthen and spice hop tones used as garnish that appears only as the glass warms...

T. Fresh yeasty bread hits me up front followed by an unsweetened psuedo-nutella spread with a bit of dry mead bite at the finish which clips off short without lingering around.

M. Very creamy in texture indeed. Feels rich and silky in the mouth like a doppelbock.

A very nice brown ale.

Picked up a single of this recently. Rush River has a good rep in this house, always willing to try their new brews.

Pour is more red than brown, huh. Never seen a red brown. Without dye, I mean. Nose is a bit player, toast, sunflower. But you'd have to hire a P.I. to find them, or anything else.

Lyndale Brown Ale is, despite its coloring, a tame, simple creature. Nuttiness is the only easy impression. Toast crumbs, M&M shavings, hops leaf.

Not much going on here. I'm all for simple, but the DNA here is single-cell, & not tasty enough to pull off its easy-going manner. Decent enough beer, but the first Rush River that I wouldn't be happy to try again.

This beer pours a brown color with amber hues. The head is one inch of solid tannish-white foam that recedes very slowly into nice sticky lacing. The aroma is of molasses, burnt caramel, toffee, and has a hint of citrus. It is a strong aroma. The is hoppier that the aroma, but still leans toward the malty side of things. There are nice citrus notes up front with aggressive toffee and caramel. The mouthfeel is medium bodied with lively carbonation, and a smooth texture. Overall, this is one of the best brown ales I've ever tasted. This beer will surely become a regular in my rotation.

12 ounce bottle poured into a pint glass.

A: Rich amber/light brown in hue with a finger's worth of frothy cream-colored head. Retention is amazing. Sticky lacing coats the sides of the glass. I'm surprised by its color. Much lighter than many browns, yet very attractive.

S: Nose is a bit faint at first. As the beer warms, roasty notes of chocolate and caramel emerge, with a nice grassy hop character at the end.

T: Up front, caramel and toast dominate, with some sweet honeyed character and just a hint of chocolate. Reminds me of fresh bread right out of the oven. Floral, grassy hop notes emerge, giving the beer a pleasant bitter, although not overpowering finish.

Notes: Well balanced, full flavored, and has one of the creamiest textures I have ever experienced in this style. Even at 7%, drinkability is impeccable! This fitting seasonal brew has just shoved others out of the way for my top American Brown. One of the best offerings Rush River has yet to offer.

From a bottle poured into a snifter

A: medium brown, some chestnut, 1.5 inches of big fluffy khaki colored head

S: initially I get citrus hops, then I get some toasty malts

T: toasted malts, light sweetness, hoppy bitterness, some citrus

M: a little thin but overall very nice, good carbonation

O: very surprised by this one, this is going to be a staple in my fridge.

This is for the raspberry and green tea infused version as part of the Celts Pub Firkin tour Rosemount edition. Really nice to see some good craft beer south of 494!

Pours a medium brown color with a nice and creamy tan head. Some light lacing on the glass.

Caramel malt smell with some nutty notes and a little bit of the raspberry.

Milk chocolate and caramel with some moderate raspberry. Reminds me of the holiday chocolates with raspberry cream inside of milk chocolate. Getting a little of the green tea tannins at the back end, but if I didn't know it was in here, I wouldn't have picked it out.

Solid feel, but still a little subpar as far as cask goes. Lightly creamy and plenty smooth in a medium body.

Drinks wonderfully. I put back four of these in less than two hours. Really a nice infused beer that I would absolutely have again. This is the best brew I've had at this point from Rush River.

Lightly hazy appearance, dark ruby red coloration, far from brown. Great topping of bubbly, creamy froth above.

Aroma: nice, toasty roasty malt flavor, biscuity, with a bit of fruit, some apple and cherry. Very nice.

Taste: good balance, great combo of light hoppiness and deep maltiness, warm and toasty. Hops are at play, but not adding considerable bitterness, malt isn't too sweet, but has a tangible fruity character. Full bodied, long, rich and rewarding finish, that ends hoppy and dry.

Yeast character lends a lot to this one, though it doesn't clearly fit the notion of a typical American brown ale, or even an English one. But dang, it is good. Wonderful flavors, good drinkability, excellent session ale choice. My faith in Dan and Nick is restored again. Very nice, I'd love to see this return.

Not a bad brown ale, and a good first effort from Rush River. My only complaint on the taste is it has a bit of a metallic and medicinal taste. Other than that, pretty solid offering with a nice white head and pretty clean brown color. The mouthfeel and drinkability are nice with a clean hop finish and medium body.
