Not a bad brown ale, and a good first effort from Rush River. My only complaint on the taste is it has a bit of a metallic and medicinal taste. Other than that, pretty solid offering with a nice white head and pretty clean brown color. The mouthfeel and drinkability are nice with a clean hop finish and medium body.

Poured from 12oz bottle into glass. Label is notched to indicate a bottling date during the fourth week of August, 2018. The brewery indicates it has been five years since this beer was last brewed.
Clear, medium amber colored body. One finger khaki colored head is long lasting, and forms an attractive creamy cap. The drinking side of the glass has spotting patterns of lacing left behind.
Aroma is medium roasted malts, with a bit of caramel, and the overlay of floral hops.
Taste is very much toasty and darker bready malts. Some floral hops for balance but no bitterness. Very tasty caramel/toffee remnants in the after taste.
Medium and very smooth mouth feel. Good carbonation.
Very much exceeded expectations for taste and mouth feel. 7%ABV is not really the best for session work, but the after taste bite is a siren call for another sip. Really enjoyed this one.

Drinking at six weeks old out of a pub pint.
L: Hazy light brown pour crowned by a 3” clingy cream collored foam collar that slowly recedes.
S: Crystal, pale ale and just a touch of brown malts, very little roast some dark sugars. Faint vegetal.
T: Malt driven, some toast, traces of chocolate, fresh bread crust, a touch of sweetness. A hoppy finish for balance.
F: Very creamy with moderate carbonation, medium body.
O: A big brown ale that comes in just short of a porter.

Pours a murky brown color with a big fluffy head. The smell is sweet malt, caramel, a little cough syrup and cotton candy. The flavor is too sweet, could benefit from a lot of improvements, but even drying out would help. This tastes like cough syrup. Terrible.

Appearance:
Holy sediment, Batman! Typically I have a flow to my reviews, but there is so much sediment floating around this glass - huge, flaky pieces - slowly falling out of suspension that I'd be remiss if I didn't point it out. Looking past this, the murky body is medium brown in color with a hint of red and topped with a nice, pale yellow head. Plenty of lacing and carbonation is visible on after straining your eyes.

Aroma:
Quite unique! There is a crisp tartness to it that I am actually struggling to describe and I like that challenge. Think about eating a pecan roll at a small table with a bouquet of flowers for a centerpiece. Plenty of floral notes mix quite well with sweet caramels and nuts, mostly pecan. For good measure, throw in a glass of fresh apple juice.

Taste:
Packs more bitterness than I was expecting.. This is not a bad thing, just surprising - more of an American Pale Ale/American Brown Ale hybrid. I like it. Plenty of mouth-drying hop character packing a citrusy punch up front and hangs around from beginning to end while sweet, toasted malts weave in and out while various nuts dance around your taste buds. Faint coffee notes sneak in at the finish.

Mouthfeel:
Medium-bodied beer. Light on carbonation. Finish is a bit too dry in my opinion.

Overall:
A well executed beer that blends styles very well. Not perfect by any means, but it is enjoyable.

On tap at the Bulldog in St. Paul, MN.
Slightly hazy, dark brownish red, creamy head left nice looking lace.
Aroma is a solid toasted malt base, some sweet fruitlike smell, sour cherry maybe.
Tasteis well balanced between maltiness and some light hops. Not overly bitter, and not overly sweet either.
Full bodied, rich and smooth, clean dry finish.
Very nice example for my first beer from this brewery.
