A: Dark toffee, light tan head, thin ring of retention, light lacing.
S: Dark toffee, dark fruit, cotton candy, alcohol, cherry & figs.
T: Bready, dark toffee, rind, modest bitterness, light toffee sweetness.
M: Moderate body is very smooth, light acidity.
D: A good drinker.

A winter-seasonal from Brewsters. This was tapped with a pleasant, heavy looking iron-colour, sparkling, a bit hazy. Served in a pint glass, at a cool but not cold temperature. A finger of off-white head, which left sticky lacing throughout the drink. Definite sweet aroma up front, with a peculiar raspberry note. I had some difficulty getting the aroma from the beer; and indeed this is a common problem I have at Brewsters--I smell the dishwasher soap or something in their glasses, which masks the beer. I enjoyed the taste more than I did Edmonton's Alley Kat Olde Deuteronomy barley-wine. This was fuller, with a thicker, more syrupy maltness. Not as spicy, but more sweet, balanced with a very dry hop presence. Indeed, the finish is sufficiently dry to prevent me from ordering another in one sitting. I taste nectarine, pear, and mollasses. The mouthfeel is heavy, thick, syrupy, and sugary. Full-bodied to the extreme. The dryness hits in the middle of the tongue, and stays for the aftertaste. Apropos of barley wines, this one still has above average drinkability. This is probably the best beer I have tasted from Brewsters. A perfect seasonal for some soon-to-come frosty winter nights.

Thanks to wordemupg for this one - shared with my wife. Served in a Surly pint glass.
A - Pours with a half-finger of light tan foam that settles to a thin collar and some light haze, leaving a few tiny spots of lace. Nearly opaque caramel colored body.
S - Burnt sugar, crème brûlée, raisins, dates, cherries and other dark fruits, a faint whiff of spicy alcohol esters as it warms up.
T - Toffee, maple, burnt sugars, and dark fruits are all present in large quantities. However, there is some nice residual bitterness in the finish that keeps things from getting cloying.
M - Full-boded, sticky, with medium carbonation that keeps things from getting too heavy, and a slightly tannic finish.
D - Had no problem drinking 250ml, and could probably have more. It's one of the easier drinking barleywines I've had recently, and I certainly wouldn't feel deprived if I was in Alberta.

Enjoyed this one alongside my fellow BA joemcgrath27. I chose to rate his beer as mine appeared weak on the presentation (likely due to being the first pour of the keg for the day?).
A - Pours a slightly hazy amber colour with a deep red hue, finger of head with solid retention, nice sheeting lacing and healthy body carbonation.
S - Strong alcohol off the top masked by some leafy hops and fruity caramel. Unique and complex scents to decipher.
T - Bitter alcohol is present, though not offensive. The leafy hops come through nicely off the top and the bitterness lingers. The malts are sweeter, with caramel, maple and burnt sugar. A bready biscuit flavour lingers alongside the bitterness.
M - Smooth and creamy, filling the tongue with small bubbled carbonation, goes down smooth and finishes with a touch of alcohol heat.
D - Tasty, complex and delicious. Very pleased with this offering from Brewsters and definitely worthy to any Barleywine fan. A nice drink to heat up your insides, in a pleasant way!
