Bottle #104 of 240. Bottled in September '12.
HUGE thanks go out to MrPeabodysBeard for the hookup on this one! Made a trip "up the hill" for this one specifically (among others), and he just killed it with excellent service. Everything was set aside for me when I arrived. I know I'm reviewing a beer here and not a store, but gotta give credit where credit is due. You are the man, Chris.
22oz bottle split and shared with a friend on NYE. His first 'Sour' so he was quite excited. Poured my allotment into a small tulip glass.
This beer pours a cloudy ruby-tinted amber. A large billowy white head rests atop. Pretty lace sticks to the glass edge. Aroma is tart and funky. Wet wood, hay, sour fruits, just the slightest of vinegar burn. All wrapped up together, this is one potent little concoction.
A nice velvety feel greets me, with moderate carbonation. A bit syrupy at times, but overall this has got a nice feel to it. This beer starts out with a mildly-puckering tartness, and as I sip, the tartness stays, but there's also a subtle sweet character that joins forces making this a real treat! Flavors of pickle juice, vinegar, tart cherries, mild cranberry, all wrapped up in a woodsy oak-like flavor. I was really impressed with this one.
My two favorite NG beers to date have been their 'sour' beers, this one, and their Oak-Aged Farmhouse back in '09. Now I need to get my hands on some of the 230th Anniv. Sour! Who wants to hook me up?

Thanks to Tom for sharing this at my post-dissertation defense party. Served in a tulip.
A - White foam settles to wisps, a thick collar, and specks of lace. Dark orange-amber transparent body.
S - Lots of oaky barrel and vanilla, with musky funk, and a bit of buttery, yogurty, lactic flavor. It's definitely in the Flanders tradition, as the there's a hefty amount of amber ale malt character remaining.
T - The taste is a bit more sour and acidic. Better than the aroma, as it sheds some of the buttery flavors. Lactic acidity, with notes of lemon, sour cherry, and lighter oak here. Not as overtly sweet.
M - Medium-full body that is heftier than one would expect from a 6.5% beer. Well-hidden alcohol, lightly chewy texture, dry finish and light lingering stickiness. Pleasant moderate carbonation level.
D - Seems a bit young, as the aroma is a bit sweeter than I like from this style. I'm also put off by the overly lactic and buttery note. Taste and feel are solid though, and this is a region of the country not really known for producing great wild beers. If it weren't so rare I'd consider revisiting it down the road to see how it develops, but merely so-so at this stage.
