On-tap at Brewvival 2011.

Dark brown with a small, creamy khaki-colored head. The beer appears a bit thin in the glass, to borrow a wine term, it has poor "legs". Bourbon dominates the aroma, almost too much if I'm being honest (and I'm a Bourbon freak), along with typical Porter aromas of dark malt, caramel, and roasted nuts. Flavor is very similar, once again this is a huge Bourbon-bomb, very oaky. Medium-thin bodied with low carbonation. Quite fiery, you can feel that Bourbon heat in the belly!

Had while at Brewvival. Served from firkin into a sampler Brewvival imperial pint. Poured dark brown with a minimal tan head. There was no apparent lacing evident throughout. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, slight roasted malt, vanilla, and cream. The flavor was of sweet malt, roasted malt, vanilla, cream, slight oakiness, and just a hint of alcohol (had to be from the barrels based on the ABV of this one). It had a medium feel on the palate with low carbonation (it was a cask afterall). Overall this was a pretty decent brew. See that it got a new one ripped in it by the other 2 reviews, but I don't see why. While this brew isn't as robust in its flavors, the ones that are there are still quite nice and smooth and blend very well together. I would love to have this one again on-tap to compare with the additional carbonation.

On draft at Birreria Paradisio in Georgetown, D.C.

Decent up front. Nice color and surprisingly low carbonation. A touch sour, but still possesses a bit of smoky smell and that distinctive sour mash smell.

Taste is pretty unremarkable for a bourbon-aged porter. Some dark fruits and smokiness. Also a surprise, the roundness of the beer, which is awkward because the beer rounds out while the sourness remains on the palate.

Still adjusting to the style, but this one has a full-bodied bourbon flavor without the high alcohol, which unfortunately just rendered the sour mash to be the predominant attribute of the mouthfeel and finish.

Leaves a sour residue on the back end that tastes more like sour Coke than bourbon-soaked beer.

Reviewed on 06/22/2009. I had this on draft. It pours brown with a small tan head. The aroma is of bourbon and roasted malt. The flavor is completely dominated by the bourbon, leaving all of the base beer completely hidden. Another awful example of a barrel aged beer. Ugh.
