Appropriately pitch black, with a coffee-colored, two-finger head. Not much lacing.

Smells super sweet. Lots of chocolate and sweet malts. Dark fruit, raisins, blackberries. Enough coffee to notice but sweetness dominates.

Taste is the same--very sweet. But there's more richness to the taste than the smell. Chocolate, dark fruit, berries, licorice, and a medium coffee that keeps it from being too sweet.

Syrupy but full enough to get away with it. An RIS that doesn't make me want to hunt for more, but it's a great beer to drink.

A: Pours an opaque yet clear jet black in color with some moderate amounts of visible carbonation near the surface of the beer and some very dark amber + cola brown highlights. The beer has a finger tall dense foamy very dark mocha head that slowly reduces to a large patch of very thick film and a thin film covering the remainder of the surface of the beer with a medium thick ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Moderate aromas of dark roasted malts with just a hint of burnt malts.

T: Upfront there are moderate to strong flavors of roasted malts with moderate notes of dark chocolate and freshly ground coffee. Moderate amounts of lingering bitterness.

M: Just shy of full bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Smooth and creamy.

O: This is a very big beer with a bold flavor but one that is very enjoyable - this is a beer that you need to sip slowly. I could not have more than one of these during a session but it is one to definitely try (especially now that Duck-Rabbit has corrected their infection issues). Alcohol is very well hidden in this one.
