12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: The beer poured a one finger head that reduced to a thin layer and left some nice lacing on the glass. It is a pitch black color with

Smell: Sweet faint lactose aroma, possibly some oats, roasted coffee, and some chocolate malts too.

Taste: The flavors follow the aromas in the beer. There is some lingering bitterness in the end too.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, full bodied, medium carbonation, a little chewy, and easy to drink as it got warmer.

Overall: A very nice stout. Was probably looking for not sweetness and creamy notes from the lactose. Still an enjoyable beer though.

This is the first time I have ever attempted to write a beer review, so here goes:

Serving Type: 12oz Bottle (Poured into a mug)

Appearance: Pours a very dark brown, almost black. Small cream colored head (about a finger height) looks pitch black in the glass.

Smell: Very light on the nose (my un-experienced nose) Aromas of malt, chocolate and perhaps a hint of coffee

Taste: Lots of chocolate flavor followed by a nice, balanced malt. (For current lack of a sophisticated palate, I say it tastes like a very chocolaty Guinness)

Mouthfeel: Lite, Smooth, Creamy. - In my opinion the smoothness makes it seem lite for a stout beer but it makes for very easy and enjoyable drinking.

Overall: So far this is one of my favorite craft beers I have tried (currently that isn't a lot). It is very smooth and not especially filling which allows you to drink a couple (or more if you wish) without feeling full or bloated.

As I venture out into more craft brews and grow my collection (both craft and home-brewed) I hope to become better at writing reviews and getting a better grip on identifying the complex tastes and aromas of good beer.

Cheers!
