look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 4 | feel: 4 | overall: 4
Appearance: Pours brown (no, really?) accompanied by a beige head with nominal lacing.
Smell: Aroma of chocolate malts with a slight nuttiness and a flowery citrus zing.
Taste: Chocolate malts reach out first, while the spicy hops impart a nice bitter finish.
Mouthfeel: Its medium, its mild, but surprisingly drying. Good amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: A simple beer that, although a bit more hopped than most browns, is still rather mild mannered. If you take to this style, then you should be pleased with this one.

Re-Review: March 12, 2008
Appearance: Pours a clear, reddish-brown body with a small, ivory-colored head.
Smell: Malty aroma with a few flecks of chocolate and dark caramel. Touch of grains. Light floral hop character.
Taste: Maltiness represented by chocolate and caramel with a mild sweetness. More pronounced grain flavor. Slight nuttiness. Light, spicy bitterness scrubs away the sweetness and leaves you with a lingering finish.
Mouthfeel: In the neighborhood of medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: Much better than when I first came across this beer back in November '05.

picked this one up during a mix six run back in december . glad it didn't go bad in the bottle . poured from the bottle into a mug. nice amber color with a fluffy head. aroma is a bit strong .the roasted chocolate is nice part of this particular brew. makes me wish that it was easier to find beer from this brewery.

T - Nice toasted flavor with some sweeter malts that finishes with a mild tart characteristic.
M - Medium, good carbonization, nutty malt clings on with some sweetness.
O - A decent brown ale, Not super outstanding, but good to have more than one of.

Served on tap in a pint glass
Appearance- The beer is served as a deep brown colored brew with a small cream colored head. The head fades relatively quickly leaving a decent level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma is heaviest of a roasted malt and chocolate aroma with a nice presence of a caramel smell. With these aromas there are some lighter herbal and nut like smells, producing a rather standard brown ale type smell.
Taste- the taste begins with flavors of a roasted malt and a stronger presence of a bitter coffee and some notes of chocolate. While initially on the more bitter and malty side some caramel soon works work its way to the tongue balancing out the roasted and coffee flavors rather nicely. These flavors last largely to the end of the taste were some notes of an earthy and herbal hop come to the tongue, leaving a nice roasted and slightly bitter but overall balanced flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was smooth and creamy with a carbonation level that was on the average side. The smooth body was great for the roasted flavor of the brew, while the carbonation kept it more on the refreshing side and helped to qualm some of the bitterness allowing it to mingle well with the lighter caramel flavors.
Overall – A fairly nice, not too sweet, brown ale that is a little more on the bitter and dry side.

Served from bottle into a standard pint glass.
A: It seems a little cloudy, but has a nice, deep brown color. The head is thick and cappuccino like.
S: Lots of hops. Smells as though it has been dry-hopped.
T: Hops right off the bat, and lots of them. Quickly it mellows out to a very dark, complex flavor of roasted malts. Almost coffee like at the very end. Very smooth transition between these flavors.
M: The hops give it a crispness right away, but that goes away and it is very smooth on the tongue.
O: Five sips in, I didn't like it at all. It grew on me and I actually had to go back and change some of the ratings. A good beer, not great. I'd get it again in a mixed six-pack or on draft at a bar, but not a sixer or case.
