This style is brewed using a majority of beechwood- smoked malt (smoked in Bamberg). The smoke character is well integrated and balanced by a hint of roasted malt and German hops.

On tap poured into a pint glass.

Pours a fairly light amber with almost no head but a nice light smokey and malty aroma that's very nice.

Wow, the taste is awesome, it's smokey but also very rich malty with a light hoppy/smokey finish. Very nice crisp an smooth mouthfeel with a dry finishthays really good. One of the best rauchbiers I've ever had.

Pours a mild copper color with a one-finger head into my glass.

Grainy, slightly smokey malt penetrates the nose. Very muted.

Taste is full of smoke with a sweet, grainy background. Almost like a lighter version of liquid smoke.

Mouthfeel is chewy, sweet and full of lingering smokiness. Very palatable.

Its always nice to have a local version of this style. Its rich, satisfying and definitely something that you'll want to savor slowly and sparingly.

Stopped into the Burlington Hearth on 10NOV12 with Alewife to enjoy some good company, conversation and bier. Started with a glass of this, a 12oz fluted pils at $5.00.

This one was a clear, deep copper/amber hue. Head was a light tan, creamy layer of froth, which left decent lacework. Definitely had a smoky aroma, with some caramel also evident. Pretty nice on the tongue; fairly smooth and medium bodied.

Tasted a bit of toasty malt, with some caramel and a hint of roastyness, with a nice level of initial sweetness. The rauch character is easily noticed, but it's not too strong to put you off - just the right level. Some light floral hopping is noted in the dry finish. Quite nice! Zum Wohl!!
