This place is ridiculous, a must try if you are on Mt Desert Island. I have had BBQ in Kansas City and I would put this right up against it. 14 dollars or so will get you the "Sampler" that is enough food for three meals, but you will probably finish it because it is amazing.
This place is located on the same grounds as the Atlantic Brewing Company, and features pretty much all of their regular beers plus a seasonal selection. The beers are solid, you wont find a bad one. I wont review each beer here, but pick your favorite style from the menu and you will get a well crafted beer.
The atmosphere is fitting. A small lodgey type of bar and seating area inside, and a larger (but still quaint) open air outside BBQ pit type of place. I feel like I am actually reviewing the Atlantic Brewing Company, its really all the same. Eat some good BBQ and drink until you're about to pop, check out the gift shop, take the tour, get a free tasting. A great place.

I love there beer and have been drinking it for years. On a recent trip to Bar Harbor I finally went to their brewery. We arrived too late for a tour, but did get to eat at their attached restaurant - well, more of a BBQ stand. Some of the best BBQ north of the mason-dixon. And be warned, that's all they have! Its a heaven for carnivors. The menu is simple - pork, beef, chicken or sausage. The only sides they have are cole slaw and baked beans. For variety, you can get pork, beef, chicken, AND sausage on one platter! But that's pricey and meant to be shared. They have hamburgers and cheeseburgers too.
I give the Knox Road Grille high marks for atmostphere due to the outdoor seating (some 'indoor' seating under a roof, but its more like a pavilion). Maine woods surround you, smokers out back, big portions, great beer made 20 feet away - what more could you want? A vegetable you say? Well, order a blueberry ale!

Ate here this past Saturday after a tasting at the Atlantic Brewing Company (which also runs this restaurant). Saturdays feature an all-you-can-eat buffet which is worth going for if you are hungry. Barbecue plates were about $10, but the buffet is $15 and features everything on the menu, so it looked like a good deal to me. Among the offerings were pulled pork, sausage, chicken and ribs (which I enjoyed most), plus cole slaw, potato salad and corn on the cob.
All the Atlantic beers were available, so if you didn't get enough at the brewery tasting, you can get your fill here. They even made my wife one of the Atlantic Black & Tan's (Real ale and S.O.B.).
It was a beautiful day, so were sat outside under the sun, which was very nice to do. It felt like we were at a barbecue in someone's back yard (someone with exception taste in beer). It was a fun experience; one I'd recommend you try to have if you're in the area.

It actually goes by the Knox Road Grille now and is more of a BBQ pit than a tavern or bistro. It's situated right outside Atlantic Brewing Company and is a great place to grab a bit to eat or get a couple pints if the free samples from the tour weren't enough.
The place is pretty much a large shack with seating inside, but on a nice day, you can eat outside in the courtyard. Very laid back.
On tap they have, of course, Atlantic Brewing Company beers and seasonals.
The food is great, probably the best BBQ on MDI, but make sure to hit it up on Saturdays when it's all you can eat! The side dishes are a bit lacking though.

This is more a Brewery Review as I visited on the Monday before they opened the restaurant (still under construction)
Set just outside Bar Harbor, this Brewery turns out some exceptional beers. They really know what they are doing.
We visited on a rainy day and were the only people there.
Wes, assistant Brewmaster, gave me and my family what turned out to be a one-on-one tour and tasting. We saw the grounds, walked around the mash tuns, vats and bottlers, all the while getting a behind the scenes look at their process.
Following this, we got to go inside the shop where we got a taste of all their brews. He explained the stories behind each beer and what he felt the strengths and weaknesses were. We got a sneak peak at the soon to open restaurant too.
I cannot recommend this place enough. Stop by to buy the beer, if for no other reason - truly some of the best. We are looking forward to going back to try to food.

This is Atlantic Brewing's detached, on-site tavern. Brewery and 'gift shop' on one side and hop vines, flowers and trees on the others. One big with the bar at one end and windows around the rest. Only a few tables inside with a few more outside, on the patio.
Only serves Atlantic beers, which is great, because they are all awesome.
Two barkeepers (mother and daughter, come to find out) and a cook/master barbequer. All were pretty attentive, even as the place got packed.
Saturdays are smoked barbeque days. 200 lbs of all-you-can-eat meat cooked from lunch until around eight (or until the meat is gone). Pulled pork, pork ribs (the best), spicy sausage and chicken. Also potato chips, corn cobs, potato salad, cole slaw, baked beans and watermelon.
We sat at one end of the bar, opposite the smoker, in front of the taps and next to the door. We got to see the staff in action, watch some lingering flatlanders (metro NYC one at that) and the roaring regular. Not to mention eating an drinking the best. One of the best times I have had in a bar in a while!

Greatpondbrewer and I made a visit recently to Atlantic Brewing in Bar Harbor, home of BA Bennybrew, who gave us a private tour, if you will. We had the pleasure of finishing our visit at "The Knox Road Tavern & Bistro." This has definitely more of a bistro atmosphere, as the establishment is one open room--maybe 20 by 20--with lots of windows, most of which were open on this warm June afternoon, and it gave me a kind of screened porch feel. There are two large picnic tables and a couple or three stools at the bar, which stands at one end. There's also an outside terrance, adding to the bistro effect.
They serve only Atlantic beers, but in and of itself there a nice range: SOB, Bar Harbor Real Ale, the Coal Porter, and a number of others, including the potent barleywine: Brother Adam's Bragget. Service was great, and certainly these people know their beer, as one would expect.
In general, this is a very informal, open-air kind of place. There is a grille and a modest, but characteristically Maine, menu, but we did not try any of the food.
