Definitely one of the finer craft beer establishments on the Virginia Peninsula. The food is excellent and I strongly recommend the brisket or pulled pork. Taps rotate regularly with great brews coming in from DFH, Stone, Avery, etc. On Wednesday night they have half priced growlers to go. The staff is awesome. Enjoy yourself here!

I stopped in here with some colleagues as I spent some time down in the Yorktown area for work.
A/Q: The atmosphere had a definite smokehouse feel, as the "barbeque smoke" feel permeated throughout the entire restaurant. The quality, I had nothing to complain about.
S: For about 12 of us, the service was very good as they kept all of us "watered" well with the various sorts of drinks.
S: The selection was very good as I remember at least ten of the grill/smokehouse's own brews and then all of your regular macro brews ready.
F: The food was excellent as I had an extremely large burger that I had a hard time finishing.
V: The value was about the same for any other restaurant in the Yorktown area (way cheaper than Maine). I would go back as I failed to write down the name of the "red" that I had from the County Grill.

I was looking for a place the other day to watch the game. I stumbled into County Grill and Smokehouse and was very pleased that I did. It was actually a very quite place for 2:30 on a Sunday. Usually anyplace that has the games on it's a little more rowdy. Staff is really laid back and seem like the kind of people that are fun to hang out with.
One thing that was very unique was on Sunday's they have a "bloody mary" bar. $2.50 they will give you a glass with the vodka in it and you just take it over to a table that sits in the middle of the floor and choose for the 50 or so ingredients and make your drink. Kind of like a self serve bar.
Then there's the beer. 14 different beers on taps and even more in the bottle. Some of the choices included AB ale, Founders Breakfast stout, Ommegang Abbey ale, and selections from heavy seas, Dog Fish Head, Rogue.
And the food was great too. Pulled pork bbq smoked for 14 hours served with fries and slaw. And you can choose from 6 different house made sauces to use. Great place that I will visit again.

Beer: The County Grill Yorktown location has become my bar of choice on the Peninsula. The management has done a awesome job with providing, what is in my opinion, the best beer selection in and around the Peninsula. They focus solely on American Crafts. Unlike what the the previous review may lead you to believe, the staff does a great job encouraging those who may be new to good beer to forego their usual macro and try something new, and are well educated on the selections. Sure they may not have EVERYTHING the tap or bottle list available all the time, but this is due to the fact that they move some beer and rotate regularly, making what they do have fresh. Rest assured that if something kicks, something good will most likely take it's place. As an establishment aspiring to constantly progress and expand their American craft beer selection in an area for the most part void of such places it is definitely a must try. On top of the selection and quality you will be hard pressed to find a place anywhere that provides these beers at the prices they do while still making enough to continue to do so!
Food: Serial Griller Mark Breen is the brains behind the the Southern BBQ fair. They do a very good job on providing a great selection of great tasting BBQ and have all the traditional dishes of a down-home South Eastern Virginia meat paradise; pork, beef, chicken, and turkey (cornbread, greens, and sweet tea included).
Atmosphere: This is a place is where the Hells Angel, white collared executive, can come enjoy good beer, good food, and good music. Every saturday night the County Grill is a venue to good local and non local live music. With a slightly "Hippy" vibe , the restaurant has a relaxed, laid back, and friendly vibe. If visiting the typical corporate restaurant chain-type spots is not your thing then you will be at home here.

We stopped in the joint for a quick beer on the way past. They had 13 drafts. I decided upon a beer and of course they were out of it. I then selected another. As it turns out at least two of the 13 were out. This place had a much better selection than their Hampton location however.
The quality was actually pretty good. The service however was not. The bartender was definitely more brawn than brain and asked up what number the beer was on the list. He did not know their tap selections and almost mixed up the beers when delivering them to the bar.
I have heard the food was very good, but have not tried it. I would definitely stop back in to wet the whistle, but hopefully out cheerful bartender will not be on duty since we ended up just leaving cash on the bar since he had left and both the beer and the water had run dry.
