A: Either very dark brown or black in color. Forms a smallish dark brown colored head that quickly reduces to just some bubbles around the edge. Little lacing.

S: Cherries, bourbon, vanilla, chocolate and some roasted malts.

T: Taste starts off with sweet milk chocolate. There is some heavily roasted malts, sweet cherries, and dark fruit. Sweet.

M: On the heavier side, a bit thick. Sweetness approaching cloyingness. Too sweet for my tastes.

O: A decent brew, but just too sweet for me.

Hopefully, without the entry to bottles, there was less chance of the hitherto characteristic Short's infection issue... This stuff pours a deep black-brown topped by a tiny bit of brown foam. The nose comprises whiskey, roasted malts, black cherry liqueur, and charred oak. The taste holds notes of black cherry, light whiskey, and light cocoa. The body is a light medium, with a decidedly light carbonation (I'm assuming this was due to the growler being open for a while) and a slick-ish feel. Overall, a pretty nice little brew, though nothing entirely all that special. I'd definitely drink it again, though...

A big thanks to Preismj for leaving this for the tasting. Appearance is thick, black, and opaque with minimal head. The nose is quite nice. Cherry and vanilla come in huge up front with notes of chocolate and oak underneath. The smell suggests a well balanced brew. The taste starts a tad sweet with cherries and cream followed by a healthy dose of vanilla. The mouthfeel is smooth with mellow carbonation. Overall, this is the best Short's beer I have had. There is a great balance and tons of flavors in this brew.

Review input from notes.

Serves in goblet. Body appeared to be black though lighting was not optimal. One and a half finger brown sugar colored head. Head recedes quickly leaving decent lacing.

Cherries and bourbon aroma sits front and center. Butterscotch and caramel flavors lay just behind. The roasted characteristics are more subtle than the base beer but compliment the bourbon very well.

Huge dark cherry meld with vanilla laced bourbon. Chocolatey and caramel malt develop just behind. Again the roast is much more subdued that in the base beer, which was one of my favorite characteristics, but it is not missed in this beer. Very even and well integrated flavor.

Full bodied beer with low but appropriate carbonation. Very smooth and nearly creamy texture. The beer does lay heavy on the tongue making the finish rather long.

A damn good beer. The beer hit its mark in every category, it is hard to find fault. The alcohol is well hidden and flavors well integrated. If there is a problem it would be it drinks too easily. Drinking a few in a sitting would not be a problem, in fact I would welcome the opportunity.

Menu says 11.2% ABV.

A- Pours an absolutely pitch black liquid with a thin brown head. Scary looking.

S- The combination of vanilla and black cherries blow my mind. Stunning.

T- Loads of vanilla, black cherry, coffee, dark chocolate, and a touch of alcohol.

M- A nice body and a nice amount of carbonation. A bit clean and thin on on the finish.

D- Drinks nicely for the alcohol content. Smells astounding, but is missing a little something... kind of like a shaddow of Bell's Bourbon Barrel Aged Cherry Stout.

On tap at Shakespeare's Pub - Called Festivus Ale 11.2 ABV

A - Dark black, inch head. Pretty happy Porter.

A- Mostly bourbon and cherries. Not much else.

T- Pretty much bourbon and cherries. Mixed with some roasted malts. It is dang good.

M - Not quite as smooth as a nitro tap, but wonderful and goes down easy.

D- Despite the abv (11.2 by the menu) you can't tell it. I decided to have one so it wasn't a gong show, but easily could have enjoyed more.

Awesome brew shorts.

poured at the brewery last weekend, last beer of a fun visit - served in a 14oz or so snifter. reviewed from notes.

A - poured with about half an inch of loose, fluffy light khaki colored foam. the beer is dark brown in color, letting some amber through the edges held up to light.

S - cherries, freshly picked and crushed meld wonderfully with lively oak and bourbon...takes on a cocktail kind of scent while roasted malts and dark chocolate round out the bottom half.

T - fresh Michigan cherries mixed with vanilla, oak, and bourbon...nothing overpowers each other, instead taking turns politely. cherries come through as slightly tart before kicked swiftly back into place by dark chooclate and boozy bourbon.

M - medium bodied, with light-ish carbonation. slick, with some lingering booze and fruity cherry sweetness which lingers.

D - this is 6% ABV? pulled off quite well, refreshing and dangerously drinkable, yet complex and enticing at the same time. could easily put down a few of these in one sitting, but had other things to move on to.

A- Tried on tap at the brewpub. Served in a snifter, it comes black in color with half a finger of tan head. Good lacing and head retention throughout the session.

S- Big notes of black cherries and chocolate, hints of oak, toffee and vanilla. Very complex and very tasty.

T- Very similar to the smell, it's like drinking a chocolate covered cherry. The notes of vanilla and oak really add something to this beer. Relatively sweet, but nice overall.

M- Medium body, not much carbonation. Velvety smooth.

D- Very drinkable, very tasty. It's like a dessert in a glass, something Short's is becoming very good at mimicking. I could probably drink a couple of glasses of this, it's especially good since there's no real notes of booziness.
