12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: This beer poured a minimal head that reduced to a thin layer. It is a copper brown color with good clarity and slow moving bubbles coming up through the glass. Spotty lacing on the glass ad the beer was drank.

Smell: Piney and resiny hops, caramel and toffee malt aromas, and some roasted aromas too.

Taste: Hops are there, caramel and roasted hops, with some mild bitterness in the end, and a little hazelnut too.

Mouthfeel: Smooth, light to medium bodied, medium carbonation, slightly tingly bitterness, and a little creamy.

Overall: A nice ABA from a brewery that comes to Boston a few months of the year. Yeah, I'm happy with this one too.

Tasted On: 04-20-2013
Freshness: Not indicated
Packaging: 12 oz. brown bottle, pry-cap
Glassware: Wellington
Purchased: Received in a trade

A: Pours a clear and dark brown-reddish beer, with a small off-white head that diminishes quickly. Lacing is minimal.

S: Aromas have caramel malt sweetness as well as earthy and citrus hops; simple but very pleasant.

T: The taste has an initial impression of hop spiciness and then notes of bready malts. The bitterness is moderate and seems just right. The ABV gives a nice touch of alcohol warmth.

M: Body is medium, with an average amount of carbonation. The finish has the sweetness of the malts balanced expertly with the earthy hops.

O: Overall a simple but very satisfying beer; one that I wish I had more of, which is a sign of a great brew!

Thanks to DrewShal9 for the trade!

12 ounce bottle
Served in a nonic pint glass

A - This brew is copper colored with amber highlights. A couple inches of tan head top this beer.

S - At first I noticed milk chocolate and cocoa. Then as I drank it some grassy hops came through.

T - The taste was a similar journey as the aroma. Initially my tastebuds were met with milk chocolate. After I drank a third of the glass some hops started creeping. The finish became slightly bitter and citrusy with the chocolate malt still coming through.

M - It is relatively smooth with the carbonation only pricking the tip of my tongue.

O - This is an interesting beer. I had recalled earlier tastes of this beer having a pronounced hop component. When I first tasted this particular Good Humans I got a ton of chocolate and hop significant hops. As I mentioned earlier, once I finished a third of the beer the hops made their presence known. This is one on the more enjoyable beers that I have had from Shorts.

My dad brought this one back from a recent trip to Michigan. Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into my Cigar City pint glass.

A - Pours a nice burnt sienna color, with some deep red tones like a cranberry juice. A small half-finger of fluff appears after the pour. A small amount of visible carbonation at the bottom of the brew. A wall of lacing develops as I drink.

S - The first thing on the nose is a big hop aroma, with some bitter, resiny pine playing a role. Also a bit of an earthy or herbal character. After that, the brown ales roasted malts take the steering wheel, with only a hint of sweetness apparent.

T - Nutty and toasty at the beginning, which transitions into some light coffee roast flavors. There's a bit of sweetness here too, such as a light brown sugar. Finishes with some bitter hops and a roasted note that lingers.

M - A little thin for a brown ale, but with an adequate carbonation level. Dries the mouth out a little too much.

O - An interesting variation on a brown ale, but not necessarily something that I would go out of my way to seek again.

Pours a small fizzy head covering that barely exists before disappearing, not too bad for an 8% beer but not great either, slightly hazy dark mahogany slightly chocolate brown color with some ruby light coming through.

Nose is interesting, a blend of brown malts and floral hops. Hops bring some floral, slightly noble like grassy aromas, touch of pine and earthy hops, and a decent malt base, light toasty brown malts, little caramel and hint syrupy, little nutty toffee too.

Taste brings a juicy brown malt right out first, plenty of toffee, nutty, caramel, hint buttery toffee, nice malty base with mild sweetness but mostly dry, almost candy like toffee nutty flavors almost brittle but without the sweetness. Then hops, milder hops, just a touch of bitterness, mostly grassy floral almost noble like hops, just a touch of earthy and faint piney hops. Finish gets bit more bitter, spicy earthy hops lingering, grassy hops as well, semi dry but a little sticky and some buttery toffee and nutty brown malts lingering.

Mouth is med bodied, nice fluffy carb, booze is hidden well.

Overall not bad, I'm surprised by this one. The Short's normal beers don't seem to do anything special and are usually fairly lackluster. And I wasn't expecting a dry hopped brown ale to do anything nice, but this is well balanced, not too bitter, nice profile of both hops and malts that seem to somehow play off each other, since I think they picked the hops and malts well.
