Notes:
Our new fall seasonal which is a Northern Michigan version of a German style Marzen or Oktoberfest, done the Short's Brew way. This beer is well balanced with Noble hop additions which provide a subtle bouquet and pleasant flavor which melds well with the malt profile consisting of 2 row, chocolate, special roast, caramel and Munich malts. It's a brand new addition to the Short's Brew family of beer.

Copper colored liquid. Nice long-lasting light tan head.
Aroma of caramel, caramel sugary maltiness and slight spice hints as well.
Flavor is sweet malt, caramel, and a marshmallow-candy flavor. Noble hop spice at the end.
Body is slightly creamy, almost lactose-like. Lots of dextrins give the beer some chew. Finishes semi-sweet.
Overall, a nice drinkable Short's brew. A little sweet for my preference, but a fresh take on the style that I enjoyed.

Review from Fall 2012
A: Pours clear and medium dark brown in color. Slightly off-white head disappears quickly.
S: Toasted malts, earthy hops, and bitter tea make up the nose.
T: Same profile as the nose, but with a little hint of dark fruit in there. Some alcohol is perceived.
M: About what you would expect from the style. Fairly light and crisp.
O: A good representaion for the style I think, but not overly impressive. Probably wouldn't buy again.

Bottle poured into a pint
A - Deep, reddish brown. Very clean looking and slightly reflective. Small white head.
S - Smells of bready and caramel malt with a nice dose ofnoble hops. A classic Marzen nose.
T - Sweet caramel and bready malt. There are hint of dark raisins and plums in the middle. The finish has a slight Noble hops presence that gives it a slight bite to cut through the sweetness
MF - Medium body with light carbonation that goes well with the slight Noble hops presence
O - Solid Marzen from Shorts that a bit more of a dark fruit than you usually find.

A - Dark chestnut brown that is cloudy in appearance. The head impresses at first with a puffy and creamy, but quickly settles. Maintains a nice see through layer throughout the drink. Decent retention. I love the way the head sticks and falls slowly down the glass after you take a pull.
S - Chocolate, roasted malts, vanilla. Not a smack you in the face aroma, but it smells delish.
T - Very unique take on the Oktoberfest - it is malty as it should be, but I appreciate the hop presence. Medium bodied, silky smooth and rich.
O - This almost feels more like a nut brown ale than an Oktoberfest, but overall it hits the mark and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely worth a shot to try Short's take on this style.

12 ounce bottle into pint glass, bottled 8/24/2012. Pours lightly hazy orange copper color with a 1 finger fairly dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of pear, apple, biscuit, caramel, toast, molasses, nuttiness, earth, and herbal spiciness. Very nice aromas with good strength and balance. Spot on to what I expected. Taste of big caramel, toast, biscuit, nuttiness, pear, apple, light chocolate, toffee, molasses, earth, and herbal spiciness. Lingering notes of light fruit, caramel, toast, biscuit, toffee, nuttiness, light chocolate, earth, and herbal spiciness on the finish for a good bit. Nice balance and robustness of flavors; with minimal cloying sweetness on the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a creamy and fairly slick mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with only a slight warming after the finish noticed. Overall this is a great Oktoberfest! Nice robust flavors with good balance; very smooth and easy to drink. Highly enjoyable stuff; this was a lot better than I expected.
