Our new fall seasonal which is a Northern Michigan version of a German style Marzen or Oktoberfest, done the Short's Brew way. This beer is well balanced with Noble hop additions which provide a subtle bouquet and pleasant flavor which melds well with the malt profile consisting of 2 row, chocolate, special roast, caramel and Munich malts.  It's a brand new addition to the Short's Brew family of beer.

On tap at Ashley’s - Ann Arbor, MI - Nov 20, 2007. Aroma is a muddling of grain sugars, earthy spice and nips of Munich. Pours a middle brown, clouded and with tinted head. Flavor is a mostly generic bread malt, with rather gummy hops, a bouquet of light estery fruits, and a earthy chocolate touches. A certain tint of more caramelized or dark Munich malt, which is interesting. Not your typical Munich flavor, this has been messed with (no way...). Finishes dry and clean, with a good tooth of the gummy hops. When i had this, I had no idea what style it was, and I regarded it as a rather generic middle malt beer. So, as a Marzen, that makes sense and it doesn’t do a terrible job, but it could have clarified the malt profile and lager output a little bit.

12oz Bottle - SEP 18, 2010. Thanks, Sean! Ah, relief. Big cheerios and whole grain nose, full of classic O-fest malts. Translucent orange pour with a tan head. Flavors are generally sweet and well-defined, but show above-average hoppiness for the style, which I’m enjoying. Fresh, clean, malty and bright. A nice change of pace from the last two beers. Having had this twice now, I’m starting to see it as a classic Michigan Oktoberfest.

Nice dark amber color, small amount of head with minimal lingering lacing. Smells faintly of dark chocolate and roast coffee. Tastes of dark roast coffee, dark chocolate, caramel, malt and biscuit. Some nice flavors in there but they're quite subtle and lack any sort of forward hop presence. Thin mouthfeel, decent carbonation, smooth aftertaste. Not a bad beer but fairly uninspiring.

Pours an amber/copper color with a minimal white head that disappears quickly. Mild spice aroma with a hint of caramel. Tastes of malts and hops. A hint of cocoa exists but the hops linger at the finish.

Serving: 12 oz. bottle poured into a Founder's Harvest Party pint. Bottled on 8/30/17, making this about 1.5 months old.

A: Pours a pretty dark amber color.

S: Lots of malts, grape, almond.

T: Some plum, barley, lots of nutty flavors.

M: Medium body. Good carbonation. Not super crisp.

O: This is an oddball Oktoberfest beer. Unusual name and label that bucks the trend. Flavor is pretty bland, mild, not super crisp and lacking a hop presence. It's a serviceable Fall beer, but there's better offerings out there, especially in the state of Michigan.

Recommendation: About average for an Oktoberfest, you're probably better off with some other versions out there.

I purchased a single of this yesterday,It poured a clear very dark copper(?) color with a small biscuity white head that was minimal . Smells very good , Robust Dark grains , roasted malts, a sweetness, Bready, and familiar Oktoberfest marzen smell. Tasted Like the smell, not many beers in general do this . This is a full bodied Oktoberfest, huge roasted tones, Nice marzen bready feel and taste. Has a hop kick but , not really a over powering taste. Which accounts for a slight dry characteristic that to me brought all the flavors together at once. This bready full bodied roasted beer looks intimidating for an Oktoberfest but its rather good. I would Purchase a sixer of this .
