Notes:
Wheat stout ale. Chocolate malt, wheat malt and carefully chosen specialty grains provide deep, black wort balanced with the Nugget and Fuggle hop varieties. Top fermenting ale yeast completes this beer resulting in full flavored, full bodied toasted/burnt chocolate wheat ale.

My first taste of Short's and frankly this one was a little disappointing. Poured dark brown and semi opaque with no head at all despite a very aggressive pour; likewise no lacing either. Aroma is simple: bittersweet chocolate and lightly roasted malt.
The flavor follows suit; not sweet at all really; more like baker's squares of chocolate and the aforementioned roasted malt; some mild hoppiness but little bitterness in the finish. Kind of flat and lacking in depth of flavor; the lowish carbonation and watery body just reinforce this feeling.
This one had an odd kind of homebrew-just missing the mark kind of feel. Would love to try more from this brewer though.

thanks to larrybird for the extra! Thanks Larry!
poured into Duvel tulip.
Appearance: black bodied beer with half a finger of medium tan head. Spotty lace. Drops to a ring around the glass with a few random bubbles in the middle.
Smell: nice smelling porter! It honestly smells like coco wheats cereal and a splash of coffee.
Taste: mild roasty note of coffee pairs with some mildly bitter cocoa. Solid porter flavors here. Not getting much from the wheat in the flavor profile and not much of a hop presence in this beer either. Bitterness builds a little bit and beer finishes with nice complexity a burnt, ashy, smokey, earthy note.
Mouthfeel: low end of a medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. The body is a little thin, but it does not distract from the beer in any way. Easy drinking porter.
Overall: Its a malt forward porter that is sessionable! Easy to enjoy this well made porter by Shorts. It a very approachable beer for "newer" beer drinkers and its also easy to enjoy for anyone who like a good porter. Not much from the wheat influenced this beer in my opinion, but it did matter that much to me its a good beer.

Chocolate? Check. Somewhat bitter and not too overpowering. Wheat? Roger that. This is potentially a nice mashup of a light, earthy beer and a porter. Dinner fork? Yeah, that's in there too. Metallic notes are an unwelcome addition, and f up the potential of this beer. Really can't shake it and leaves a poor aftertaste.
This was consumed at Reno's West in Lansing, and I am beginning to wonder if they are part of the problem. They serve their beer cold, cold, cold. Maybe it's a coincidence but I have yet to enjoy a single stout/porter there. Perhaps in another venue I would reconsider this beverage, but generally I give it a neutral-to-negative rating.
