Poured from a brown 12oz. bottle. Has a dark bronze color with a 1 inch head. Smell is very hoppy, some citrus and rye notes. Taste is bitter, lots of hops, a bit of rye, just a hint of citrus, no malts to speak of. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a decent beer.

finally a magic hat release with some alcoholic teeth to it! this rye ipa isn't as good as some of the other ones on tour, but its pretty nice. pours an apparently lightly carbonated honey brown color, crystal clear, with a puffy lace head, bone white with outstanding retention. the nose is heavy rye, not sure the percentage of the grain bill, but its really rye heavy. underwhelming ale yeast as well. the taste has a lot of rye tool, and is spicy as it should be. fuller malt sweetness and body, a little heavy really, and lacking the carbonation to really make this pop. the flavor is a little average honestly, but I like magic hats use of a higher abv, and a new grain. this is a step in the more adventurous direction for them, and I appreciate that, but more carbonation and a more drinkable body would be much preferred for summer. still, a nice beer, good hop presence, and a nice long complex finish. im in.

Appearance and mouthfeel are great. A sticky white head siits atop an amber/ brown body.

The taste is hoppy with a good malt backing. there is a bit of a funk in the aroma and flavor at first but it settles down after a bit.

It is only an okay beer for me.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Pours hazy dark copper with a late layer of white foam. Sweet rye nose. Fruity. Taste is a light fruity rye, malty. Some caramel too. The bitter rye hangs around following the finish. Interesting blend, nicely made.

Amazing blood orange color with great head and mild carbonation. Looks more like a Red IPA. Smells like an IPA. Citrus, very bitter, almost metallic, herbal, complex aroma. Tastes great, really complex but the aftertaste is full of ash. Very bitter. Herbal and hoppy notes. Complex flavor and full bodied.

Great Rye IPA.

P: Hazed brown orange tinted body with micro bubble tan head.

S: Spicy rye, bready malt, dark fruits and toffee.

T/M: Roasted caramel, heavy rye, spiced rum, toffee candy, caramel apples, dark fruit and pine resin. Medium full spices body that Coates the palate with pine and fruit. Leaves of film on the top if the throat like sharp cheddar does.

O: By far the best Magic Hat beer I have had. This has great robust flavors and a dialed in spice profile to please.

A - Dark brown with a off white head.
S - Malty and rye up front, hops are subtle
T - malty up front, hops are muted but present. Taste has a rye finish at every drink
M - Medium body and a bitter rye finish. carbination seems a bit high.
O - A good rye ipa, very worth trying a pint. Its also not over the top like some in this style can be.

The newest introduction to Magic Hat's IPA on tour series, Ticket to Rye replaces the Black IPA "Demo" introduced just two years prior. Ticket to Rye is brewed in the style of an American Rye IPA. Available as part of Magic Hat's Spring Variety Pack. Date on bottle is calculated to be roughly May 06, 2013.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle to a pint glass. Served north of 51º Fahrenheit.

(Appearance) Pours a caramel cream-tone head of a frothy cream consistency. Body tone is a deep orange copper amber with speckled sediment in tow and moderate carbonation. Head retention is quite nice- it maintains thickness and consistency throughout its slow recession. Lacing is light and curtained. Very pleasing appearance. 4.25

(Smell) Traces of grain rye forward, with a mild bready caramel malt base sweetness. Tones of earthy hop and pine resin build a delicate hop backbone. The most dominant part of the aroma is the rye, which is very shallow in itself. The overall aroma is largely muted- warming does little to improve the issue. 3.25

(Taste) Subtle improvements in the flavor, with a further defined bready toasted malt character with a touch of diacetyl buttery character. Specialty rye perks up the bread notes. Finishes faintly dry with a pinch of rye grain and a resinous, mildly herbal hop blend. Very drinkable and light on the palate despite being a Rye IPA. The shallowness may make or break it for some. For me, it has about 3/4 of the flavor and punch it should have. 3.25

(Mouthfeel) Texture is slick smooth with a mild spicy grain finish for a slightly bitter/sweet balance, although by a small margin. Body is just short of medium for the style, medium+ overall. Alcohol presence is low/medium. It's a bit lighter-bodied than some Rye IPAs that I have tried, with a relatively clean, thin finish. 3.5

(Overall) Ticket to Rye may serve well as a gateway IPA for an introduction to the Rye'd side of IPAs. It's relatively light on the rye character, and even the hop character falls shallow. It might seem like cutting corners but on the lighter side of things, it serves as a mild alternative to bold and flavorful Rye IPAs. If you can't stomach the flavor punch of rye-heavy IPAs, this might do well to bridge the gap. 3.5
