Well I had the notion (was expecting) a Winter style beer....NOT SO FAST MY FRIENDS!!!! (in my Lee Corso impression) What this beer ended up is a solid red ale. The beer poured red with thin white foam head....not much lacing to speak of. Not much nose to describe and the taste was like a Killians Red....really. Could certainly be a session, so the mounthfeel and drinkability is decent.

This beer poured out with decent looking red body and a thin white head. The smell of the beer has some malts and the littlest amount of hibiscus on the nose. The flavor was a bit watered down to me. The hibiscus was barely noticeable and the other flavors were the same way. The mouthfeel was light, I feel it should have been much thicker. Overall I see these odd notion brews gradually getting worse over time. The Belgian Chocolate stout was probably the best from a few years ago, but since then they just been on a downfall.

When i poured this beer it has a red copper body with 2"fizzy white head that vanishes quickly. The smell is kinda fruity no hops that i can detect. The taste is malty but not a lot of hops. The mouth feel is ok. Overall this is a ok beer. I might revisti this beer, if they make it again.

on-tap @ Pour Judgement in Newport, RI- $5 a pint. Never seen an Odd Notion on tap, so I had to get it.
A- Nice shimmering ruby red body, almost no head to speak of, tiny off-white bubbles form an outer ring, but that's about it.
S- Very sweet- floral, lilac (or hibiscus, I suppose). Some orange as well.
T- Sweet honeysuckle and lilac, building malts balance the flowers nicely. A smidge of twiggy earthiness, with some tea-like flavors as well.
M- Despite no head the carbonation was fine. Very quaffable. Sweetness is curtailed by a moderately dry and crisp finish. I enjoyed the uniqueness of it.
O- I was impressed- This one's either way better on tap or criminally underrated.. an enjoyable (if unconventional) ale.

12 oz bottle poured into a Sierra Nevada imperial pint. 6% ABV, "Best when Fresh" Enjoy by Feb282011 (had on the 21st...cutting it close!) A QR Code adorns the label. I didn't bother scanning it.
A - A turbulent pour packs a two-finger bone head on top of a faintly cloudy orange-amber brew. Moderate retention and decent lace is left behind.
S - Sweet fruity yeast esters come up front and center in this brew leaving the CaraMunich-like malts' sweetness to also overpower any sort of hop addition they might have been. I certainly don't smell any.
T - Cut grass and dry leaf pile reminds me of fall mulch clean-up. Dry taste and mineral overbearing, the toasted malts fall behind and lack a good backbone.
M - Dry city, this brew sucks the moisture from my mouth instantly. Medium-bodied and bland in feel with a decent high carbonation finish.
D - Yuck. The aroma is slightly offensive while the flavor is fully offensive. I knew this would be a drain-pour on first sip. It's definitely not something I'd like to partake in again.
I will say that this is by far my favorite Magic Hat bottle cap though; the underside reads, "Free at last."

A - Poured out a clear, burgundy/amber color with a one-finger, tan head of foam. It left minimal lacing.
S - It smelled malty and floral. Nice caramel notes with a touch of citrus.
T - This is a nice malty amber ale with a grassy hop bite. Mild spicy kick, too.
M - It was crisp, sharp and smooth. A medium bodied ale with a dry finish.
D - This is an okay amber ale. Some of the Odd Notion series has been awful, so this was encouraging.

(2nd review)
Magic Hat Odd Notion Winter '10 is a very clear amber ale with a white head that quickly vanishes. The aroma is herbal, medicinal and a little grainy. There's a touch of sweetness in the nose and I can detect hibiscus. It's pretty lively and pretty light with a dry, papery finish. The flavor is a little disjointed. It starts off with a malt extract flavor which is neither sweet nor dry. Then comes the hibiscus, like Red Zinger tea. Then come the the slightly bitter, very medicinal hops. It has a cough drop quality and it's very tangy overall. Like many of the Odd Notion beers, this one is pretty strange. It took a little willpower to finish the pint.

Magic Hat Odd Notion Winter '10 is a solid, coppery ale with an off white head that fades quickly. There is sweet, light malt extract in the nose. It has a very fluffy medium body. The dry finish leaves the mouth a bit ragged. It has a very herbal flavor. Sweeten your herbal tea with light malt extract and you'll get the idea. There are notes of mint and red currant and not really any bitterness or hoppiness. This is an odd beer, to be certain. It almost seems like an Irish red ale. This would be interesting on cask. Yeah, it's odd.

This shows a very clear reddish copper color with a modest off-white head and pretty much no lacing. The nose picks up cherry caramel, almost a root beer and whiskey idea, maybe a vague juniper edge. Sweet and a bit unusual. The taste buds detect a light grass hop and a preponderance to acrid biscuit. There's an idea of some caramel sweetness, but boy this is pretty stark and unappealing concoction. The feel features a little dryness with soda like carbonation, light-plus bodied but not drinkable in my book. This is near drain pour stuff to me, not interested in revisiting this puppy. Sorry.
