Poured into a Cigar City snifter on 4/14/11.

Pours a dark red amber with one finger of head that dissipates quickly to leave no lacing at all.

Smells of malt and a little spice. Some hops here but also lots of carmel and sweetness.

Taste is much like the smell. Malt sweetness and a bit of hops but not what I was expecting. It could be so much better

Mouthfeel is smooth with a bit of bite on the end. Resin leaves a burnt malt and a little hop flavor. After taste is to be desired.

Drinkability is moderate and thats a stretch. Its not a bad ber but its not good by any means. Subdued hop character and to much burnt malt makes this difficult to take down after awhile. ABV is good.

A: Pours a cloudless amber red with a thin head that quickly dissipates.

S: The caramel really pushed through on the nose. There's evidence of some nice citrus-like aroma hops, but the malt really takes center stage.

T: Again, the caramel really pushes through big time, giving way to some honey notes and a nicely bittered finish. After all is said and done, the caramel lingers on and on.

M: This is a solid, medium-bodied ale. Carbonation is spot on.

O: In all, I would have this again. It's not my favorit red of all time, but it's well balanced and tasty for the most part. I might have rated this higher but the caramel is a little too strong for my pallet.

2012 release poured from a 22oz bottle into a wide-mouthed wine glass.

Big thanks goes out to Jerriko for sending this one to me in a past trade as an extra! Served from bottle into a New Belgium globe. Poured red-orange with a minimal off-white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, fruit, caramel, caramel hop, and fruit hop. The flavor was of sweet malt, fruit, caramel, and caramel hop. It had a light feel on the palate with medium-high carbonation. Overall this was a decent brew. Nothing on this brew really stood out to me unfortunately. However, it was quite easy to drink and rather enjoyable at the same time. Basically only carried the typical Red Ale flavors, without adding anything new and exciting to the mix. Worth trying for a fan of the style or anyone looking for an easy to drink Red Ale.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass.

Appearance: deep amber-brown hue with a thick finger of frothy tan foam. Body is completely clear of haze. A good looking amber!

Smell: potent crystal malt aroma; very caramelly. No hops make their way through this massive caramel blast. Not bad, though not precisely to my taste.

Taste: big caramel flavor, but toned down a bit from the aroma. There are some hops here; they are earthy in nature. Ambers aren't my favorite style but this beer is pretty darn tasty; it's got a bit of a UK-ness about it that I like.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a spot-on carbonation which is well-integrated and creates a boatload of creaminess; it's particularly high for the style (which I like a lot). Ba dow!

Overall: a tasty example of a beer in a style I don't normally liike; this thing is quite drinkable and has a bodacious mouthfeel.

Chestnut brown with a tan head leaving light lace.

Smell is sweet caramel malts.

Taste is sweet, caramel, not cloying, basic.

Mouthfeel is light bodied, slick, perhaps a bit watery.

Drinkability is pretty good, a nice, sweet red, nothing flashy, smooth.

Appearance: (3.5)
- Pours a somewhat clear caramel brown color. Almost like a pitcher of sun tea ready to come in to chill. It had a quick light tan head that has fizzled to a small little ring in the pint glass, and some scattered dustings above.

Smell: (3.5)
- Caramel, and roasted husky grain. Some light molasses and bitter grassy hops ride the smooth wave into the nose. Pretty sharp and common red ale aromas. Lightly sweet, and zesty.

Taste: (3.5)
- Lightly sweet grains, and almost a wheat-like grain finish. Smooth caramel, and crunchy husks. Grassy and earthy hops play a small bittering role while a bready, and zesty malt bill play smoothly. Certainly a refreshing red.

Mouth Feel: (3.5)
- Medium bodied brew with pretty standard carbonation. Slightly drying, but not overly so as it isn't a super hoppy red. Little cloying. Not at all syrupy or sticky.

Overall: (3.0)
- Overall this is a pretty standard and common red. Nothing about it really stands out though, and sets it apart from other common reds. Though it does stick pretty well it seems to the styles guidelines. Not a bad try, but not something to really go out of the way for. Reds are not very popular among any beer drinking crowd.. and if you plan to brew, and bottle one.. it had better stand out.

I had the "six shooter sampler" at Silver City Restaurant and Brewery. This was one of the six. For whatever reason (small servings, straight glasses, environment, etc.) detecting the smells of these beers was difficult. Also, the heads had receded by the time the waitress brought the glasses to the table, decreasing my enjoyment of the appearance. With all of this in mind . . .

A - transparent red-orange with slight cloudyness; lost of carbonation bubbles

S - weak malty smell

T - good bite of hops complements a good malty backbone; quite smooth!

M - medium body; medium-high carbonation

O – good well-balanced red ale
