on tap at Silver City Restaurant and Brewery
A - clear golden orange
S - nothing but hops; weak smell
T - pine and citrus hops bite the palate; bitter and delicious; bitter aftertaste lingers . . .
M - light-medium body; medium carbonation
O – A little malt flavor would not hurt this DIPA, but it's pretty good as it is.

From bottle ordered on-line.
Poured in a Belgian Scotch Silly glass.
Copper color with big head.
Aroma of grassy hops and sweet malts.
Medium carbonation and significant mouthfeel.
Flavors of roasted malts, grassy and piney hops, funky fruit rind, white grapefruit, Italian herbs...let me give this 5 minutes...
OK...head remains with mixed size bubbles...aroma is still there, with a touch of oxidation/wet cardboard. Flavors are big and bold, with a touch of funky melon fruit, biting grassy and pine sap bitterness, alcohol, mango rind. Humm...might well be better at the brewery, but in this form at this time it's bitter and rough, certainly not for the timid but beyond that, for the double IPA fan, it's not compelling.

Poured chilled into a tulip.
Pours a nice bronze color with about half an inch of beige head that quickly recedes leaving a light surface layer with moderate lacing.
Aromas of carmelized sugars, candied citrus peel and pine.
Taste follows through the aromas with really nothing coming to the front. A lingering, bitter aftertaste that I found a bit cloying.
Medium to heavy bodied with moderate carbonation.
Overall a fair DIPA, but not one of my faves.

22oz. bomber purchased at Full Throttle Bottles in Seattle for $7. There appears to be the date “100912” stamped on the label. Presumably, that’s a best-by date. According to the label, this was brewed in Bremerton, not Silverdale.
Poured a cloudy, hazy amber color with a decent-sized, creamy beige head. Said head hung around for a while. Lots of lace.
Big, citrusy hop aroma. There’s some piney notes as well. Malt aromas are pretty well obliterated, only just showing they are present to provide some backbone.
Initially just a bitter hop flavor, but once it warmed up a little became quite a bit more complex. It's definitely more bitter in the taste than in the aroma, but it’s still well balanced. There’s a malty backbone that’s only just detectable, providing a framework upon which to hang hops. A little more sweet than the average IPA but not to a distracting degree. A little more complex tasting than most versions of the style.
Medium bodied, with decent carbonation. Creamy and oily mouthfeel.
Pretty good DIPA. Back in the day, there was a lot of rapturous talk about this beer that emanated from the west side of the state, and that – combined with it’s lack of wide distribution – made it one of my white whales. While not quite as epic as I was expecting, it’s still very good. Like SIlver City's Fat, it takes a little bit of warming up to appreciate it.

Poured from 22oz bomber into a pint glass. My bottle reads 8.5% ABV rather than the above-noted 9%.
Appearance: deep orange hue with a little bit of haze to the body. Effervescence is minimal, but there's a thick finger of frothy ivory head. I think it looks darn good.
Smell: rich, sweet malt backbone with a big hop bouquet all over it. Hop character is earthy, floral and a tiny bit citrusy; overall, the effect is very smooth. Sometimes double IPAs can get pretty loud and prickly, but this one is balanced and enticing.
Taste: just like the aroma, there's a rich malty flavor combined with a big floral, citrusy hop character. Bitterness is low for the style, and overall the beer is quite balanced. I like it; it's quite drinkable for the style.
Mouthfeel: medium to medium-thick body with a nice, well-integrated carbonation which is surprisingly prominent despite the lack of effervescence in the appearance. The combination of body and carbonation yields a wonderfully creamy mouthfeel. Usually IPA brewers don't go for this kind of creaminess, but here it works great. Love it!
Overall: a very drinkable and tasty DIPA. Quaffable despite its ABV, and smooth despite its IBUs. I dig it.
