The HWC has moved to a larger site, just up Churton St from where it used to be. The beer is no longer crammed into a side room, though it's still relegated to a pair of shelves in the back of the store.
They've got a fair selection, for a store that focuses on wines. They've mostly got small or microbrews, and some imports. The proprietor is extremely helpful if you're looking for wine, but not so much for beer. There are descriptions posted for some of the beers, but not all.
Prices are comparable to other stores in the area, and you can buy singles, which I find helpful for seeing if I like a beer.
Overall: not a bad place to find beer, for a wine shop.

This store is mainly full of wine, as you can see from its title, but has a small square beer room inside. When I came in, I was given a friendly greating by the person at the desk, and was asked if I needed help looking for anything, etc. You can mix packs which I always like to do, and according to a sign (I didn't try it) you can have them instantly cool something for you. All their beers are organized on shelves and the selection is about quality over quantity, and that's how I like it. Good beers to choose from and the quality of what I bought was great. No problems. Prices were reasonable based on what I've seen in NC.
A good place to find some good beer.

This place has a nice little room in the back of the store with a small but high quality selection. Local breweries including Duck Rabbit and Highland, Belgians like St. Bernardus and Maredsous, Avery, Hop Pocket, DFH...even a few I'd never seen before, most notably D Carnegie Stark Porter and Ska's Nefarious Ten Pin Imperial Porter. Everything is organized on shelves by style. They even have some glasses for sale from Chimay and Unibroue. Best of all...no macros in sight. Just all quality beer. Prices seem pretty good too though I'm not all that familiar with the area yet.
Nice little selection here and not too far from the house.
Note: You can break up six packs too

The Hillsborough Wine Co is a piece of cake to find on Churchton St. (Hwy 86) in Hillsborough. Finding a parking space is another matter. There is parking around back or up the street beside the store, but it is limited.
The place has the type of selection I would call small but mighty. The beers are relegated to a room by themselves and can be removed from sixers and purchased individually for very inexpensive prices compared to other Triangle stores. The prices on Belgians and bombers is the best in the area as well, of course the place is located off the beaten path unless you are heading up through Hillsborough.
The quality is very high, heck, the whole enchilada for that. Service was immediate and later at checkout the conversation was intelligent and spot on. The selection almost gets a 4.0, oh heck, let's put it there since no macros are in sight and excluding some of the most recently released seasonals they had an entire beer selection that I would purchase.
I'll certainly go back despite the compact selection. With awesome quality, good customer service, and inexpensive pricing the place deserves a bit of press!
