355ml can.
This beer pours a hazy pale straw colour, with one finger of tight foamy white head, which leaves some broken (natch) bicycle chain lace around the glass in its wake. It smells of astringent rice and corn grain/malt, and dead, skunky grassy hops. The taste is a diabetes-taunting, cloying mindfuck of overdone corn sweetness, and well, well I suppose there's some earthy (of the scorched variety) weedy hops in there, understandably ducking for cover. The carbonation is average, the body medium weight, on the shoulders of a sugary morass, and just not smooth. It finishes malt-liquor-like: sweet cheap grain, and burgeoning, equally sweet booze. At least with the 40oz specials, you get the higher ABV.
The can proclaims 'Craft Brewed in Small Batches'. Jebus. At least that means there's potentially less of it further contaminating the already sullied meanings of 'Classic' and 'Pilsner' on liquor store shelves here and abroad - yeah, right...

Mountain Crest "Classic" Pilsner, or so the label says.
Black can with red writing, not to be confused with Mountain Crest "Classic" Lager.
Only picked it up a couple weeks ago so checked the "DamnGoodBeer.com" website to try and get some insite, and this isn't even listed, so assume it must be fairly new from the Jos. Huber/Rhinelander/Minhas beer company. Kind of grassy pilsner smell, but that is it. Pale color, no carbonation, weak flavor - only an alcohol burn. Yes, it is cheaper than just about anything else out there, but that is its only positive.

This beer pours out a flat clear yellow colour, a bit of head on the pour which recedes shortly after. Smells of grain and corn, but overall not as bad as I expected, no off aromas. The flavour is also quite one-dimensional, and rather nondescript, although some rough grain makes an appearance every once in a while. The mouthfeel, although a bit watery, holds its own the best it can for a macro beer like this. From everything I've sampled from Mountain Crest (traced back to the Joseph Huber Brewery), the Classic Pilsner has got to be the most drinkable so far. Nothing really notable at all, it seems to me like they are trying to compete for the palates of Alberta folks who grew up drinking Molson Pilsner, but with a cheaper version of it. I suppose if you only have a few bucks to throw down for some beer this would be your best bet for that price range, it's better than AGD as well. Of course that's not saying much, and I'll be throwing my bucks elsewhere.
