Stopped by here after Stein's Deli. They have a good selection but not anywhere near what Dan carries at Stein's down the street. They are both on Magazine street so you can make a clean sweep. Save your appetite for Stein's though.
Hitachino Red Rice Ale 750ml
Hitachino Ale Brewed with Ginger 750ml
Hitachino White 300ml(go to Stein's to get the 750ml bottles)
Skull Splitter Orkney ale 4x12 oz
Samiclaus Helles 12 oz bottle
I've picked up some Hitachino Espresso stout here in the past.

I've checked out the Metairie, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans locations, and they overall have the same selections...but each store has their own few beers the other stores dont carry.
The selection here, and the space provided for beer, is about the same as metairie. They have the north coast line, bear republic, flying dog, unibroue...the list goes on. But one thing they had that I have not seen at metairie (though i did in br) is la chouffe tripel ipa (whatever the name is).
I didnt talk to anyone, but usually the service at whole foods is quite enjoyable.
Prices are pretty average.
Ovrall this seems like a good beer store at a good location if you live in the area... ya got this, then the bulldog not too far away. There is a martin's close by, but the selection is only in single coolers- not really worth the time unless you walk by it.

Whole Foods in New Orleans is one of the best places in the city to get some good beer. They have a decent selection to choose from considering they only carry only the good stuff and the good brew is tough to get down here in New Orleans. The staff is not all that knowledgable but the were able to direct me towards someone who was. I don't like that you can't mix and match but they do have a nice singles selection. I rank Whole Foods second behind Martin Wine Cellar Metaire for good beer. Martin's has more space to devote to beer.
EDIT: 09/04/10 Need to up date this but wanted to keep the original. This was written before Steins Deli got his beer permit. Obviously Steins now has the best selection in the city and Martins in Metairie has really kind of fallen of the face of the earth in terms of good beer in New Orleans.

A disclaimer up front; Ive never been in a Whole Foods before. So the drastic difference between this place and a regular grocery store seemed pretty dramatic to me. This includes the beer selection. There was a lot of organic beer.
Fortunately there was a lot of really good beer too. It was the best selection Ive ever seen short of a dedicated craft beer store. Plenty of Chimay, Rogue bombers, various IPAs and imperials, and a lot of specialty singles like Samichlaus.
I cant speak to the service because I didnt need to speak to anyone, althought he check-out girl was sweet. The prices seemed reasonable, although I was a bit overwhelmed by the selection so Im not sure I would have noticed anyway.
I will make a point to stop here every time I in NOLA. In fact, I may go by the next time Im within 30 minutes of the town or so. Awesome.

Whole Foods is basically a very nice upscale food store. It has a nice selection of beer for a grocery store. They sell six-packs and singles of several types of brews. This makes it easy to buy singles so you can decide what you like. They had domestics and imports. They also had a full range of local beers. The store smells amazing because of the deli section.
Prices are reasonable and the staff seemed quite knowledgeable. They also have a nice wine selection. Couldn't figure out why there was no liquor section though every other grocery in N.O. has one.

This Whole Foods had a better selection of beer than most of the Whole Foods I've been to, this is probably due to the fact that this store is larger than most of the other WF stores. Good selection of European-sized singles for German, Belgian, and English beers. Plus there is a good selection of the American craft brews available in Louisiana. Service seemed standard for a specialty grocery store, there might have been someone who knew something, but I didn't bother to ask. Overall this is a good beer store by New Orleans standards, but Sidney's Wine Cellar or Martin Wine Cellar would be a better choice.
