Dark golden amber body. Thin white head. Sweet boozy aroma. Under carbonated. Grainy and dull. Flavor is sharp, boozy, and husky. Offensive and boring. One of the few bad beers I’ve had at the Dane. Does not come anywhere close to matching the style either. Pass.

On-tap at the downtown Dane.

Pour: dark amber, clear with a finger or so of white foam fading to a skim.

Nose: musty like its namesake, husky malt husk, nutty bite, hint of hops, light fruitiness.

Taste: follows the nose, robust husky malts, nutty spiciness, mild citric hops with a slight metallic/lemon juice tang.

Feel: crisp and refreshing, bit zesty

Drinkability/Overall: a robust rendition of a truly American style. A bit more character than the grand-daddy. A refreshing and eminently drinkable beer.

Golden-amber hued with an bone-colored head that is quick to depart.
Grainy nose with few other distinguishing features.
Grain reigns supreme here. An intitial caramel sub-sweetness is torn asunder by the graininess. And that's about it, folks.
Poorly integrated. Little flavor. Husky hulls and stems. Hops are next-to-nonexistent, but impart a vacant citricness.
Thin, feeble bodied.
Plain, boring and rather bad. The namesake of this beer has nothing to fear.

I am a bit surprised that Great Dane put this on. They've been nailing (or at least respecting) most styles, but this one isn't even close. Then to name it after the hallmark of the style? Bad choice.
