First had at the Smoky Mountain Brewery brewpub in Gatlinburg, Tennessee, on draft into tumbler. Rather more happening with this excellent porter than the unprepossessing appearance and aroma would lead one to expect.

Smoky Mountain Brewery - Tuckaleechee Porter. 6.3% ABV. 12oz bottle poured into stout glass.
Look: Beautiful scarlet body with amazing clarity. Has visible carbonation bubbling, with a short lasting white head, that ends as a ring.
Smell: Dark fruit and definite spices, vanilla, and smoky malt.
Feel: On the thin side, opposite from a typical porter. Has some fair carbonation, and drinks smoothly.
Taste: Strong presence of dark fruit and smoky malt, with hints of vanilla. Has a faint lingering bitterness, but balanced nicely by the sweet dark fruit.
Overall: This brewery definitely approaches the styles in a different light. This retains some characteristics from standard porters, but also some from other styles, such as Belgian Dark Ales.

12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a medium brown/caramel color and settles a dark crimson in the glass. For being a fairly dark-bodied beer, this one still retained good clarity. Nearly 3 fingers of off-white foam on top, which hung around for a while. I know I'm not doing this one justice, but this really was a very attractive beer.
Strange nose. Lots of spice - cinammon, ginger, nutmeg - along with notes of dark fruit, figs, and a touch of leather. Smells like a Belgian dark ale, to be completely honest.
Upon tasting, a similar profile. Sweet dark fruit, figs, tobacco, caramel, unsweetened chocolate, and nutmeg. Tastes...like a Belgian dark ale. Imagine mixing Black Butte with Trois Pistoles.
The feel on this beer is a tad disappointing for me. For the flavors it packs, the feel could stand to be a bit thicker. It isn't horrible, but a little on the watery side. Plenty of carbonation.
Overall, this one was hard to rate. As a porter, it fails miserably. As a Rochefort 6 or 8 clone, it ain't half bad. If your hopes aren't stuck on having a beer that tastes like Founders Porter or Black Butte, give this one a try.

not quite black, very dark brown. slightly chocolate aroma and flavor in the taste. thin for a porter, could be thicker.

Poured on-tap in a shaker pint at the Pigeon Forge brewpub, the beer is a jet black coloring with mahogany highlights, and a clingy, low profile, light tan head. Aromas of subtle chocolate and coffee, with cream highlights. Flavors are coffee and milk chocolate forward, with a cream and nutty highlight. Robust bodied, with a dry finish and subtle, bittersweet chocolate and coffee linger.
