Notes:
Brewed to celebrate 100 years of the oldest hiking trail in North America, the Long Trail. This ale features a slightly sweet malt flavor delicately balanced by the use of centennial hops. This bigger beer goes down smooth, please indulge with moderation.
Our Imperial Red Ale has the traditional characteristics of a red ale with the addition of an ample amount of hops and a higher grain bill that yields more sugars during the brewing process; resulting in a higher ABV.

Well I firmly believe that this imperial craze is not good for every style. Particularly the ones that aren't generally hoppy like a red ale. I know reds can be a hoppy beer, but unless you're going to make a red that is hoppy don't make it an imperial.
This one has a fantastic look. A great red hue with a wonderful light tan head. There is a lot of life in that head and plenty of markings on the glass with each pull. Next I'll talk about the mouthfeel because that is pretty much the only really good part about the beer. Nice medium/full body that doesn't leave much of an oily feel after the beer is gone.
Smell and the taste are too conflicting. Very malty red, but there are so much it's just like a bitter. The sweet is kind of ruined with the bitterness of the beer.

Pour is a murky, swampy reddish brown. Scant white head with slightest bit of lace.
Nose is pretty sweet, with notes of caramel, brown sugar, and a rich maltiness.
Taste is similarly malty sweet. Again a bit of caramel, sweet malts, but finishing with a biting hop finish. Nice bitterness for balance at the end. Also some soft notes of scotch and oak mixed in there.
Mouth feel is medium thick, seems appropriately matched to the flavors
Nice red ale, nice robust flavors. Nothing really mind blowing here though. Good balance of malt and hop, and a good powerful beer overall, worth a shot if you see it.

Appearance:
The beer pours a dark and obscure red with light head.
Smell:
Heavy caramel malt smell with a hint of pine smelling hops.
Taste:
Sweet caramel malt taste and hops taste. The hops has pine flavor that is also the aftertaste.
Mouthfeel:
Biting carbonation and medium bodied.
Overall:
An okay beer and an okay amber ale but I think the beer could have benefited from not being too hoppy.

22 oz bottle. Pours dark red with a short lived white head. Aroma is of citrusy, piney hops, caramel malt and ripe fruit. Body is full and crisp. Piney hops, caramel, citrus fruit and cherry combine on the palate. Finish is long and dry. Well done brew.

This beer pours a beautiful deep mahogany brownish red, with a small lightly frothed head. Really interesting sharp smell on the pour - slightly sweet with just a small amount of dark chocolate. The taste is really bold with a good amount of body, I get some dark chocolate and then some slightly sour tanginess, almost citrusy, with a very tangy finish. Really interesting flavor in this beer, not sure I've ever had anything like it before. High attenuation taste however, which is why I give this beer a low score - also the tangy taste also slightly reminds me of red vinegar.
