Notes:
This malty, full-bodied double alt is also known as “Stickebier” – German slang for “secret brew”. Long Trail Double Bag was originally offered only in our brewery taproom as a special treat to our visitors. With an alcohol content of 7.2%, please indulge in moderation. The Long Trail Brewing Company is proud to have Double Bag named Malt Advocate’s “Beer of the Year” in 2001. Malt Advocate is a national magazine devoted to “expanding the boundaries of fine drinks”. Their panel of judges likes to keep things simple, and therefore of thousands of eligible competitors they award only two categories: “Imported” and “Domestic”. It is a great honor to receive this recognition.

A - Pours a really nice deep copper. It has a little bit of brown, along with some ruby. It's a really nice color. About an inch of head pops up on a fairly aggressive pour, retention is decent, and lacing is light. Great start!
S - Nice strong smell. I like when a beer can tell me what it's going to taste like, and this one does. I know it's going to be a malty, sweet, full-bodied beer by the first whiff. Mostly caramel and toffee. I need to smell more toffee, but I'm pretty sure this is it.
T - Normally I'm not a huge fan of sweet, but this one pulls it off nicely. There are some solid earthy notes to go with the sweetness. Nice, complex profile.
M - Full-bodied, as advertised. It suits the other attributes quite nicely.
O - I'm surprisingly okay with this beer. I was wary of the malt-forwardness coming into my first taste, but it really was pleasant to drink. I wouldn't recommend it for the summer, but thankfully it was cool out tonight. Not bad at all!

look: 3.75 | smell: 3.75 | taste: 3.75 | feel: 3.75 | overall: 3.75
Appearance: amber in color, minimal head, low carbonation, clear
Smell: rich caramel malt and toffee
Taste: rich caramel malt and toffee with slight citrus hops
Mouthfeel: medium-light carbonation, medium body, very sweet with slight bitterness at the end
Overall: This is so readily available around here, I keep on forgetting how good a quality this beer is. This is a nice and sweet malty treat. It is sweet without ever being cloying. I do like this one on the colder side though.

look: 4.25 | smell: 4.5 | taste: 5 | feel: 4.25 | overall: 4.75
Appearance: Clear brown with ruby chestnut hues. Slight khaki head with very little retention. The color is fantastic
Aroma: Lots of malts. Toasty graininess. Candied fruits. Caramel. Some brown sugar. A little spice (maybe cinnamon). The aroma screams autumn to me
Taste: Follows the nose with a crisp fruity sweetness followed by some rustic spice with a pleasant hop bitterness on the end. Spicy and warming. Alcohol is noticeable as it warms. Complex and delicious
Mouthfeel: Crisp and full-bodied. Clean. Very pleasant on the palate.
Overall: Actually really impressed by this one. Would definitely get again. Check it out if you haven't
