Great place in West Springfield. I visited on the last night of a business trip at the suggestion of a local. I wish I would have found out about it sooner.
Great atmosphere and environment. Traditional Bavarian decor costumes, fare, and beer.
Note that they have non-german food and beers as well.
The selection of german beers was varied. Don't stop at the draft list. They carry a selection of bottled beers as well.
The service that I had in the bar areas was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt.
The only complaint I had was about the ice cold beer glasses. But when I mentioned it to my server, he replaced my beer with a room temperature one.
I am looking forward to my return trip in February.

I'd definitely recomend dining and or consuming a tasty German brew or 3 at the Hofbrauhaus.
We enjoyed a dinner for two during the holiday season, and the restaurant decor took me back to Christmas time in Bavaria. Even the staff was decked out in traditional German garb. I had the veal shank which was scrumtious, and she had the wurst plate which also was very tasty. The portion size was generous, as was the beer, which was served in half liter mugs for pint prices. The Hof offered 3 different Spatens on tap along with a couple other German beers and a couple standards. A decent bottle list (and a wine list) accompanied the menus. My one minor complaint was the list of specials communicated by the server was way too long; 6 apetizer and 6 dinner specials. (Please write them down and include an insert to the menu.) The service was excellent, fine dinning caliber. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Great Place in West Springfield, I went there as a short pit stop while passing through. The atmosphere was amazing. The german atmosphere within the entire place is great, although there are only 8-10 taps, all of the taps have great selections of German Beers, including 4 Different Spatens (Bock, Munchen, Optimator, and Octoberfest) The bartender was quite friendly. Although I came in about 430 PM, the place was still somewhat busy with many regulars frequenting the great German Beers. I highly recommend this place, and can't wait to come here when my girlfriend will be living there in the fall.

christ on a crutch, why have i never been to this place? i spend all my german bier-drinking energy carting my ass to the east side in new britain, which is equidistant to this place from my home base of hartford. not to say the east side is bad, but this place kills it with decor, selection, everything.
my first experience with the hofbrauhaus was attending the bier garden they put up every year at the big E. good selection of german drafts, hefes, and a tasty schwarzbier. good wursts too.
upon this visit, i found the food to be much more savory than east side. the portions were a bit smaller, but things were given more loving detail. 'topped with mushrooms' here meant a plethora of wild mushroom varieties. at east side, it meant canned, sliced white. salad here was a labor of love, and flaming desserts prepared at your table added a great touch.
the beer.... the beer! you can see the EXPANSIVE selection of beers on the website, so i wont bother listing them here. with my dinner, i enjoyed the franziskaner dunkel weiss, a de ranke xx bitter, and half of my girlfriend's mahr's pils. there is even a section of the beer menu to complement dessert.. beers like la choulette framboise. i was very impressed to see the 750's of achel's achelse kluis extra on sale.. and for a mere $17! i paid $13-$14 in the store for this!
there is a bar if you want to enjoy beer only, and the decor is great and beer-influenced. stein collection on the walls, great food and beer related photography and art. service is very knowledgeable.. our waiter knew the ins-and-outs of most beers, and could provide a simple taste description on each that i concurred with.
i will be back here any time im in the area, at least for a little bottle of achel 8 or mahr's pils.

First of all, don't expect this to be like the Munich hofbrauhaus or the related chain. It's a Bavarian restaurant and bar.
Set up as three rooms, the bar is to the left, an informal dining room to the right, and a more formal dining room in the center.
Around 10 beers are available on tap, and another 2 dozen in the bottle. The draughts are all German (DAB, Hacker-Pschorr etc...), in the bottle a few Czech and Belgians (Chimay, Corsendonk) are added. The selection is varied they had Schlenkerla Rauchbier, EKU 28, Einbecker Mai-bock, Hofbrauhaus Oktoberfest, Reissdorf Kolsch, St. Georgen Keller Bier, and an alt I didn't note the name off. If you find yourself out in Western Mass, I don't think you'd find a wider variety of German beer styles. And some of them even come in proper glassware - such as a ,2L kolsch glass for the Kolsch.
The service was very good, the waitresses wear Bavarian garb, and it runs very much like a European restaurant - in other words it's non-hurried and the customer sets the pace they want.
The informal room has a sort of 'country house' atmosphere, various parapenelia and knick knacks line the walls, the front has stained glass windows. The bar again is a sort of village bar type of setup, fairly small in size with the bar running the length of the room, a few booths along the wall opposite.
The food is authentic German - heavy on the meat and potatoes, hearty and good.
