Hoppy and with a bitter-sweet aftertaste, Svyturys 1784 Ekstra is solid but not remarkable. The label on the 500 ml bottle doesn't indicate what type of beer this is but I am assuming it is a pilsener. I bought this beer in the LCBO in Ontario and, while it is still within its freshness date-range I would like to try one in Vilnius to make a fair decision.

Pours a clear light gold with a foamy off-white head that settles to a thin cap on top of the beer. Foamy streaks of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of malt, grain, and some grassy and hay aromas. Taste is much the same with a corn flakes flavor on the finish. There is a very mild bitterness on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that is drinkable but nothing very exciting.

Light golden straw colour with a large, two fingers tall head that is very foamy and leaves great lacing on the sides whilst managing to only reduce very slightly over the course of a couple minutes.

Grassy hops and some light but sweet lager malts to follow this up. There is a slightly musty aroma and some bread and very light citrus aroma.

Sweet grassy hops and a little bit of light citrus that is quickly followed by a mix of bread and basic lager malts and a little bit of grain too. Most things in this beer are slightly subdued but noticeable nonetheless.

Light and very smooth with a sort of creamy feel to it although there is a touch of grain towards the end and slightly lighter carbonation than I was expecting.

A nice lager to begin with, it's well balanced although it is quite basic and the flavours are all pretty light with the exception of the grassy hops and lager malts . Not a classic export lager but a nice one and one that I might be inclined to try again.

Pours incredibly well, makes your mouth water.
Two finger head in a lager glass poured from a 500ml bottle.
dissipated after 30 seconds, light lacing.

Skunky smell, not good. cant detect much past the skunk.
taste is tart, bitter, but sweet. and skunky.

mouthfeel is perfect, beyond all else, all beers should have that
mouthfeel. but i couldnt get past the skunky.

Goes down really well, very smooth. but skunky aftertaste
lingered in my throat. with each breath i take, the skunk
remained for minutes. It was pretty unpleasant but i couldnt
stop drinking it, the mouthfeel was just phenomenal.

While its going down and actually on your lips (the glass)
the carbonation hides the skunk, but as soon as you breath
or swallow, there it is slapping you in your mouth.
this is reason two i pretty much didnt stop till it was gone.
I wont be drinking this again.

And no the beer wasnt bad.

Pours gold with a large, white head.
Nose shows hay and bready malt. Also some faint vegetal notes in the background.
Similar flavours; hay, sweet vegetal notes some light spicy hops. A faint industrial note appears in the finish.
Could us more carbonation.

330ml bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a slightly hazy straw yellow with a fluffy one finger head. Really good lacing that is atypical for the style.

Aroma of bready malt, some cereal grain and hay/grass from the hops. Really smells appealing.

Light bread and grass on the taste along with a pleasant sweetness. A little bit of adjunct grain taste but is is kept well in check. A light bitterness towards the finish with a soft mouthfeel.

Really a better than average Euro pale lager. There are countless examples of the style out there with little to set them apart. This beer, however, has no off flavors at all and is quite refreshing. Something I will seek out again.

You'll have to forgive this for being a short and shallow review, it dates back to when I just started recording my tastings and I hadn't quite gotten a feel for things yet ;)

Appearance: golden colour; decent carbonation but the head fades fast leaving little to no lace

Aroma: slightly sweet and very light, floral if anything

Taste & Mouthfeel: somewhat metallic, sweet, a very short finish; light body, feels under-carbonated

Overall: a very average lager that feels like it would get tired fast
