sm- blueberries. Only blueberries

t - malty hops and very overpowering blueberries. theres a slight bitter aftertaste after about half a glass

m - super light and very effervescent

o - this almost isnt a beer, its so sweet and fruity. Its very refreshing but not quiet what I am looking for in a beer.

On draught at Fenway: A very nice light, summer beer. The aroma is that of blueberries, no doubt helped by the addition of some blueberries to the beer.

The color is a slightly darker, golden color. There is a decent amount of lacing. The beer has amedium to lighter body. Actually not too much blueberry taste, except when you chew on a couple of them.

It’s always on my wife's list to drink when we go to Fenway Park (across the street!) One of the better done Blueberry beers out there.

Poured from the tap into a pint glass.

The color is orange with two fingers of foamy white head that leaves no lacing left on the glass and has blueberries floating in the glass.

The smell is of blueberries party due to them floating in the beer with a slight wheat and malt aroma. There is even a little hop bitterness there as well.

The taste is sweet with the blueberries coming out a little with some nice malt flavor. There is more of a nice biscuit flavor and some slight wheat flavor.

The feel of this beer is nice and light with a crisp feel that is good for taking it easy and just having a good session ale. The floating blueberries were an interesting feature of this beer but became a nuisance when having to pick blueberries out of my teeth but some may find this a highlight.

Delicious beer, actually tates like REAL blueberries. Had on tap at Boston Beer Works WITHOUT the blueberries added before the Celtics scrimmage which might I add WE GOT FRONT ROW SEATS, and was awesome.

A- A clear golden yellow

S- Smells of mmmm blueberries mostly and not much else

T- Same as smell, all blueberries but NOT overpowering. A perfect blend for a light beer. The taste is not overdone and mixes well.

M-Nice carbonation, fine and slightly bubbly.

O- One of the best fruit beers I've had. Can't wait to try it again, if I can get this in a 6 pack I just might do that.

On-tap at Beer Works Fenway

A: The beer pours a pale golden color with blueberries floating in the glass underneath the white head.

S: Big time blueberry aroma, a bit like blueberry pancakes. That's really pretty much it for the aroma. Very simple and quite sweet, but unmistakeably blueberry.

T: Essentially the same story on the palate. There is just a touch of sweet malt and bread. But otherwise, it's tons of blueberry and blueberry pancake flavor.

M: Light in body with medium carbonation.

O: A guilty pleasure of sorts. It's pretty simple, it's definitely artificial, but it tastes good.

Poured on-tap at Canal Street, and served in a pint glass. The beer is a bright, pale golden-yellow color with a low profile, quarter-inch, white, foamy, thich head that clings and lingers while you drink. They dropped a spoonful of blueberries into the beer, so there is a ribbon of deep blue coloring down through the middle of the beer. Toasted grain and light blueberry aromas abound, almost like a neighbor is cooking blueberry muffins. Increased carbonation keeps it light and crisp, with slight sour malt flavor and tart fruit sweetness. The aftertaste is musty, with a weak, tangy fruit sweetness, and a filmy, clingy finish. Meh.

Really looking forward to this beer and I was let down. Came w/ a very light body and just some rather puckered blueberries floating on top w/ some extract floating on the bottom. Obviously I got some blueberry aroma but even that wasn't strong. The blueberries were light in taste and I really didn't pick up anything else - not much sweetness or even a biting crispness or touch of sour to speak of. Just a boring light beer w/ blueberries for lack of a better term. Won't bother getting again.

Beer Works blueberry ale is composed of their the golden ale with blueberry extract added to the keg, and blueberries added to the glass. I'm under the impression it's their number one selling beer. It appearance is awfully light in color to have blueberry flavors. It does smell appealing with a light malt/sweet blueberry aroma. Drinking it my first thought is that it's very soda like in both sweetness and mouthfeel. It's thin body make it somewhat refreshing, but really not beer-like enough for my taste. I'm honestly not hugely impressed. Kind of gimmicky with blueberries floating in the glass as well. They have some other good beers though. In general Beer Works is worth a visit, good food, pretty good beers.

Had on 3/11/11.

I've had blueberry ales before and usually, they're run of the mill. That being said, I decided to try this anyway.

Color is accentuated by real blueberries, which lend a blue-ish hue.

Aroma is full of blueberry with only slight hints of pale malt and hops underneath.

A mix of hops and blueberry greet the palate. Just a bit of sweet, buttery malt.

Coats the throat, leaving a good hint of blueberry on the throat. Not much else to write about.

An interesting light, refreshing blueberry ale, good for those who aren't usually inclined to drink beer.

A - Bunker Hill Blueberry pours a nice amber color with a small white head. Purple tinge on the head due to the added blueberries that floated up and down from the carbonation.

S - The blueberries take the main stage up front in the nose. They smell really fresh as well. A bit of malt in the background too.

T - Juicy blueberries up front. Very crisp taste with a bit of malt in the back. This doesn't taste like artificial fruit either which is nice. The added blueberries were a nice touch.

M - Lighter body with a good amount of carbonation.

D - Very good, great beer that went well with my dessert. Could picture myself drinking these at Fenway for sure.

Had on tap at Fenway location.

Appearance: Medium amber colour with a giant rocky bone white head. Looked very appetizing with real blueberries dancing up and down in the glass.

Aroma: Light blueberries, light malt, slightly floral.

Taste: Very mild blueberry flavour, slightly sweet.

Mouthfeel: Very light, thirst quenching.

Final Statement: Notes on this one fairly bad as I was more than half in the bag. However, it was probably the best blueberry beer I ever had.

Received a clear, bubbly medium yellow pint with a decent white head. Good lacing. They put some blueberries in this one, which stains the head with some purple tinge, and the carbonation makes the berries rise in the glass.

You smell the blueberries, but I can't tell if it is infused in the beer or if it is the berries (in sugar syrup), that they spooned into the pint. I guess I give the benefit of the doubt for what I've been served, and it is definitely blueberry ale. Some brew-like scents in there (pils-like), but this is all fruit.

Mild beer-like qualities of a mild ale with a bunch of shitty over-the-top blueberry fruit flavor. The berry flavor is the real deal (no Boo-Berry elements here), but WTF -- where the hell is the beer? You get some pils-like elements, maybe some grain, but those are watery at best.

Carbonated and lighter-bodied. Good, palate clearing elements.

Not a favorite. A novelty. Easier drinking but you get bored about halfway thru. Worth a try, but you need to be into this type of stuff to really like it.

I had this on tap into a pint glass at the Fenway park location.

The beer pours a light gold that is fairly clear with a hint of pink to it that I think comes from the addition of real blueberries that float througout the glass. The head is white and creamy and laced with purple pieces of the berries.

The aroma is light with a combo of skunk and berries.

The taste is ok not much blueberry to it at all though. Its almost kind of skunky as well.

The biggest distraction on the taste is the feel. It was way overcarbonted. The whole time it reminded me of drinking a french carbonated drink.

The bartender told me this was the most popular beer, I don't see how.

I've had it a few times when I've been in Boston and finally got around to actually reviewing it.

Pour is a golden color with an amber/orange color, but the best thing is the blueberries they add to it for show where they bounce up and down in the glass.

Smell is a good balance of malt and blueberries with a slight bitterness, although it does lean more towards the sweet blueberries, not as much as other fruit beers I've had.

Taste is more balanced with some bitterness that rolls off the tongue.

One of Beer Works more consistent offerings and can find it there almost every time I go in.

Had this ber at the Fens location. 16 oz pint glass. This is by and far my favorite beer brewed by Beer Works. It is also the best blueberry beer on the market in my opinion. The color is a nice golden amber with very minimal head and decent lacing. It's topped off with blueberries that float in the actual beer. The scent is of blueberries (of course) with mild malts and hops. This is a nice light bodied beer, easy to kick several of these back - that is if you like fruitier beer, and lighter body.

Pours a clear gold with a slight brown tint. Nose is very strong with a smooth blueberry influence. Flavor is slightly bitter with an edge of the blueberries. The berries seem to hit you more at the end. Feel has a good level of carbonation and an above average liquid feel. Very drinkable. The bitter edge detracts from the overall drinkability, but the smooth and very natural blueberry flavor really make this a great blueberry ale. I am always on my never-ending quest to find the greatest blueberry beer and this one is definitely up there.

Sample at Beer Works Fenway: As with the Watermelon Ale, this brewer makes up for weak Fruit beers with originality. This beer is served with a fairly substantial amount of fresh blueberries in it. The effect is similar to a lava lamp as they ride the bubbles to the top and sink down again. The beer itself is a pale golden color with a minimal white head and very little lacing. Blueberry aroma. Light body with a tart blueberry flavor along with a bit of wheat. The finish is fruity and sweet. Not a great beer by any stretch, but fun to watch.

I had this on tap at the Fenway Park brewpub. I ordered it after seeing other people drinking something with floating rabbit turds in it, and wondering if I could do the same. Let's break it down:
The appearance was interesting enough to score a 4, with maybe 20 blueberries floating up and down in the golden beer. The smell and taste were ugly though, intense sweet flavors like Booberry cereal. The mouthfeel was a little thicker than the sugary beer would best be matched with, and drinkability is low as a result.

The answer to my initial question (could I do the same as the others drinking this beer?) was no.

Ah, the Beer Works Blueberry Ale, an exceptional blueberry ale overall, and one worth having anytime you stop by. It's great in a growler as well, and typically goes quickly whenever I have one.

A: A nice clear golden color, hints of copper around the edges. And the blueberries that the bartender adds in certainly make it visually appealing.

S: A bit of malt, a bit of hops, and a hefty amount of blueberry comes forth. Beer Works seems to do an excellent job with fruit beers in making sure the fruit is at the center of things, yet remains balanced.

T: Delicious. Blueberry through and through, complemented by a light caramel malt and a nice edge of hoppy bitterness. The hops last til' the end, leaving a slightly bitter aftertaste, lingering with the blueberry.

M: Nice carbonation, not too watery. Very nice example of this style.

D: High. This is an absolute session beer, especially in the summer. Whether sitting at home or hanging at the Beer Works, this is a beer you can enjoy for a long time.

I had to give the appearance exceptional because of the cool berry trick. The blueberries gently bobbing and diving in the beer is really interesting.

This fruit beer hit it right on the mark. The taste is of NATURAL blueberries not that chemically altered berry taste you find in some other beers. Those always remind me of wine coolers. Which reminds me, it also tastes like beer! Other fruit beers can tend to taste like fruit punch because of their sweetness. This blueberry beer has the perfect balance.

It's a nice apertiff before digging into some delicous beer works food. Or before making your way down the line of taps!

I drank this beer at both the Fenway and Salem locations both times it was great beer. I'll be honest I was a little skepical at first but after I tried it I loved it.

Appearance- It was different to see fruit in the glass but enjoyable.

Smell- Mildly Fruity with a slight hint of hops.

Taste- The same as the smell but not as sweet as you might imagine.

Mouthfeel- Was average.

Drinkability- Very drinkable and smooth

Another good fruit beer from BBW! Served on tap this beer is a fairly translucent golden color with minimal head, that might have been thwarted by the fresh blueberries! It smells slightly of blueberries but not overwhelmingly so. Thae taste also reflects the undertones of blueberries but it being onn tap, this was a really fresh taste that I enjoyed! The flavor was smooth and went down easily! This was an enjoyable summer brew!

We had this at the Boston Beer Works. It was unique in that it had actual blue berries dropped in the beer. These rose and fell as they released carbonation into the beer making for an intersting show.

The beer smelled and tasted strongly of blueberries and it worked for us. I'm not a big fan of fruit tinged beers but this was a nice exception. I wouldn't drink more than one at a go but for something different and tasty this was great.
