This beer poured out pretty dark, it's got a deep brownish black color with a tan colored head on top. The head leaves a little bit of lacing. The smell of the beer is full of coffee aromas that really smell quite good. The taste however kind of lacks that same quality. The mouthfeel isn't too bad, there is a decent carbonation to the beer and the feel is pretty smooth. Overall it's not a bad brew but there are better out there to choose from.

February is stout month at BBW.
Opaque black with a rocky beige head the color of coffee ice cream. Collar retention leaves lacing like layers on a cake.
Bold and assertive syrupy dark coffee aroma. Little bit of char in back--a lil' baby char. Taste is unexpectedly clean. Syrupy, homebrew shop coffee extract flavor with no real beer flavor to balance it out. I'd like some more beer with my beer. The syrupy coffee flavor is so dominant this became a 16 oz. chore.

Part of their 'February Is Stout Month" line up. Served in a 16 oz glass. Extremely dark brown color. Thin white head. The smell rocked. Tons of roasted coffee bean smell. Taste-wise, it was a pretty decent version of a stout. I don't know what I was expecting with the "espresso" moniker, but it tasted just like a stout with an amped up coffee profile. I guess it could be a coffee stout, or a cappuccino stout, but with the extreme coffee flavor they wanted to go with espresso stout. You may like stouts, but if you don't like coffee, this one may not be for you. A pretty tasty offering from BBW.

Served in a stange on 2/7/09.
Opaque oil in coloration beneath a creamy tan head. Stable retention that leaves webbed and ringed lacing down the entire stange. Bold, espresso and mocha aromatics with saffron and licorice spices. Very rich, complex chocolate-based malt profile. Thin vanilla amidst dark chocolate, strong espresso, and licorice. A dark bitterness leads to a brisk, dry finish. Full in body; rich and chewy. The slick and creamy character is absent as this stout lacks a typical stout's sweetness. Probably the best Beer Works offering I've had to date, of any of the four locations. Rich, bold, and a Stout that I will crave over the next few weeks.
