This is a tiny new place in the west village, about 3 blocks from the Blind Tiger. This place is much more distant in terms of attitude and athmosphere. Its an upscale food place, with about 6 classy taps and 2 Brooklyn products on hand pumps. They also have a selection of eclectic and interesting bottles. A bunch of wine also available. The operative words here are upscale and trendy. A crowded room is what you'll find filled with stuffy folks with some $ to burn. not really much of a bar (small) and very crowded when I visited. If you can get a table (go early or very late) the menu looked interesting...for a true brew experience stick with the Tiger.

The Spotted Pig is an awesome place with an emphasis on great food and a good (though small and expensive) list of beers to go with it.
Located on a street corder in the West Village, the restaurant has a great funky vibe. A bit rundown, but pleasantly so, with mismatched furniture, a couple of booths and small tables and a six seat bar in the main room. There is also seating upstairs but we have never checked it out.
The beer list is rather small and static, but well chosen. The house bitter (made by Brooklyn I think) is nice. Sixpoint Chocolate Rye Porter and Crisp Lager are regulars along with Old Speckled Hen. Really expensive at $10 a mug but nice.
The food is the reason you come. We had an amazing fish chowder, the best deviled eggs I have ever eaten, a salad with house fried pork skin. All perfectly prepared and served.
If you're looking for (very good) regular food and a big beer list, Blind Tiger is your place in this neighborhood. But if you're looking for a great meal, do not miss this place.

Went to the Spotted Pig on Saturday for brunch.
This is not a typical beer lovers destination. I'll start out by saying that. That being said this place was great
We must have arrived at the perfect time because we were immediately seated. About 15 minutes later the place was full.
The place looked cramped in spots, we lucked out and got a relatively large area. For beer they have 2 casks (spotted pig bitter, sixpoint righteous rye) and about 4-5 taps ( a pils, captain lawrence pale, speckled hen, guinness. They also have some bottles with some good selections (brooklyn local 1, saison dupont)
The pricing was a bit harsh (some may put a very expensive rating, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. $9 for cask, $8 for draft, I think the local 1 was like $16
The servers were very attentive. A couple of waiters going to each table to get more water, drinks and to check on our food.
The food. Though we went for brunch we both got lunch meals. I got the burger with roquefort, which was really good. And my girlfriend got a special for the day which was a parmesan crusted 3 cheese grilled cheese (fontina, goat, and some other italian one). Both were quite good.
For dessert we got the flourless chocolate cake, which was delicious.
So overall I great place. I wouldn't have minded waiting for the food. If the beer was slightly cheaper I would have spent more. It's hard to swallow a $9 pint, but I will definitely go back

Planned to do an early Saturday evening dinner during the fall, and man it was a good thing it was an early attempt. Since they don't take reservations, we managed to only have to do a 30 minute wait for a table for two. Had we been a few minutes later, it would have been an hour and a half. Knew it was busy, but whoa.
Inside is pretty cramped, but solid vibe and layout. Tables are very much on top of each other in some spots, and the small bar area is crowded with folks either hanging out or waiting for a table. At any rate, it is a true to form pub 'feel' and pretty classy without being pretentious. Crowded, but not oppressive and nice touches of a homier place throughout.
The service was solid actually given how crowded it was, and have no complaints. The tap list is nothing to get too worked up about, but there are several quality listings on the menu. Notably, as others mentioned, is the house cask produced by Brooklyn Brewery. The food is more than solid, and while not quite excellent, the portions are nicely sized for the price you pay and it's comfort-food with upgrades.
Overall, would definitely re-visit, but not often given the pricier fare.

Let me first say that I enjoy The Spotted Pig immensely. It's a great place to have a quiet pint in the window during Sunday brunch, or to bring a date for dinner early in the week. It's a bit crowded, however, and I wouldn't suggest it for anything more than that, except lunch (I've never been).
They have cask ale though, and that's a good thing. As long as it's poured right. And when they're busy they'll just hammer away at it because they really don't care - or even have the time - to try to do it right.
Beyond that, the beer selection is pretty good, but don't expect too much as they've only got 4 draught taps and the bottle selection is limited - and limited (Sapporo, Red Stripe, Pacifico).
The food is good, I can't deny that, and the place is quite charming in it's kind of antique-like haberdashery way. It's somewhat reminiscent of a by-gone era; and oddly more like some of the pubs I've been to in Irealand than the ones here on U.S. soil that claim to be "authentic". (They do have Guinness on tap, BTW). But it is tight, and that can be uncomfortable at times (usually more-so in the winter when people have jackets and coats and shopping bags about). - ---(New York, it used to be so much fun, and now it's just aggravating).
So let's see. I recommend them for the cask ale, the food, and the atmosphere (excepting the tight conditions). What else is there? Price. $9 a pint is slightly steep. (Wine runs $9 to $16 a glass)! Although beer prices have risen, that's for sure, and it is the west Village... hmmm? Food prices are a touch up there too though.
So what can I say. At the right time, with the right crowd it can be a beautiful experience. But if the stars aren't aligned in your favor you might just walk away feeling a little beaten, and a little 'broken' for the experience. If you're not from NY (and who would be reading this if they were?), I'd suggest you look at some other options, keeping in mind that there isn't much else close by, but a short trip might be worth it.
Odd review, huh? I guess I love it and hate it - nah, I'm just OK with it, but in the numbers love wins. (Selection gets a 4 because of the cask).

Hey, guess who phucked up his own birthday dinner last year? Yes, it was Phil. Man, you got that on your first try, that was excellent. Yeah, I wanted to take his ass to Luger, and, what? Yes, of course Luger Brooklyn, no not Great Neck, really, that was "duh" worthy. Anyway, we were at Phil's office (Mug's) and I was trying to motivate him but he was like "I have to meet some peeeople" and "Di Di Di Di Di", and by the time Brian and Jilly Jill Jill Jill showed up, Luger was done for the night. Tried to recover best we could by bridging a borough to the Spotted Pig but found the wait to be hours and hours. Ended up backtracking to City Crab, which didn't suck but was not the steak for 2 at Luger. This year, we just flat out told him, Spotted Pig, 6 PM. He still showed up late but at least we were already in the door, waiting to be seated at the lunge table of all places, proof that no good deed goes unpunished...
A crazy jammed place if ever there was one. Neat stained glass panels over the doorway, and a bar counter in the front window over west 11th. Just past the front entranceway below the velvety curtained large side windows, a row of 5 small round candlelit tables sharing a common bench amidst the potted plants. Lying adjacent, a "C" shaped bar with a copper rail seating 10 on the inside wall. Shelved booze over mirrored backing & wines above, and shelved glassware, wines and bottled beers to both sides of center over mirrored panels on the barback with ceramic piggy banks and figurines above. Pressed tin ceiling, large lamps and a spinning fan, beaten brick, pig & cow prints, vased flowers, framed pics, and ornamental Chineseque pumpkin lanterns hanging from exposed copper piping. Brick archway cut throughs with wrap around bar counterage to the tight tight seating in the rear room, heavily adorned with prints, a big shiny coffee and espresso machine, and sizable framed mirrors listing dinner specials and beer & tea selections. The doorway in the front corner of the bar goes somewhere, upstairs I think, seating a good deal more.
4 taps on a tower box on the bar (Southampton Double White, Victory Prima Pils, Old Speckled Hen, Guinness) and a handpump to each side (Spotted Pig Bitter & Sixpoint Sweet Action).
Also, 9 bottles, a little bit of everything here (Saison DuPont, Lindemans Framboise, Sam Smith Organic Lager, Sierra Nevada Pale Ale, Pacifico, Sapporo Light, Red Stripe, Kaliber, Magners), and a dozen plus wines by the glass. Had a draft Double White while waiting on the table and did the DuPont over din.
Off the daily food menu, I apped the Berkshire pork rillette with mustard plate, which was very good, but didn't touch the awesome smoked haddock chowder that Jon had. Then the chargrilled burger with Roquefort cheese, and a mound of excellent crispy shoestrings done up with something leafy on 'em, sage maybe? Burger was great but you know icky Roquefort is just not the cheese for me (I know, I know, don't look at me like that). Added a side of broccoli with panchetta and all was well with the world. Really, everything was just wonderful from app through the lemon & lime tart and double espresso wind down.
I like the mix of the very upscale clientele and the heavily inked girl bartending. Service was outstanding, and seriously, everything was spot on. Pricey, yes, but how often do we let Phil have a birthday, right?

A gastropub tucked away off the beaten path in the West Village.
The atmosphere is everything you'd expect from a pub in the West Village. Battered hardwood, exposed brick, deep hardwood bar in a cramped space.
Quality? Decent tap selection, especially for a pub that ony has four tap lines. At my visit, it was Victory Prima Pils, Old Speckled Hen, Guinness, and Blue Point Hoptical Illusion. Then there was two beer engines: Brooklyn Spotted Pig Ale and Brooklyn IPA.
My service was good. It was attentitive and professional, and seemed very swift, stoic, and professional. All business when you have a 40-minute wait for lunch.
The food? Best bar food I've ever had in my life. Food was absolutely outstanding. You have to go here to try for yourself.
Although its a bit pricey and you might find yourself eating lunch next to Lou Reed (as I did), it's a pub experience you'll never forget.
