Vom fass at the brewery in Bamberg! Gorgeous beer, properly strong, malty and smooth. For the style, it’s quite drinkable, but it’s a heavy beer overall. Regardless, this is a proper spring beer with that strong malt profile and heavy booze you want from a Maibock.

Had this on tap at Klosterbrau in Bamberg.

Deep golden in appearnce, minor head that dissipates quickly and leaves a rich lace.

Both strong hints of caramel and earthy hops create a really aromatic beer that's remarkably appealing.

Excellent combination of spcie, malt, and hops all at once in the taste, but the hops persist to the finish.

As full bodied as any Maibock I've ever had. Excellent carbonation that spreads the flavors and lets the pop all over the mouth.

Highly drinkable. Spicy, with a bite, but pleasant sweetness from the malts that makes an enjoyable smooth brew.

Overall, it was not the best Maibock I've ever had, but it was close, and I would certainly drink it again.

This Maibock poured a clear, golden-amber color with very creamy, white foam that persisted, and slowly settled. The smell was spicy with moderate hoppiness and some malt. The taste was spicy and sweet up front but with a dry finish. There was almost an herbal spiciness with some woody notes. The mouthfeel was very smooth and creamy with medium-full body with low carbonation feel. Slightly sweet up front but finishing dry and hoppy. This was an interesting and a bit unusual tasting maibock.

I had this (vom fass) at the brewery.

A: Golden yellow; fluffy, white head, great retention and lace.

S: Caramel, toffee; grassy, slightly spicy hops.

T: Full, malty flavour. Bread & toffee (sweetness up front), earthy hops through the middle, assertive (but very pleasant) hop bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is certainly perceptible, but it is not very aggressive. I had a bottle about one month later, and it didn't seem to have quite as much fresh hop flavour, but it was still very good.

M: Fairly full body, moderate to high carbonation (a little high). The carbonation in the bottle was more moderate.

D: Very, very good.

Not that I've had many, but I think this is the best Maibock I've had the pleasure of tasting!

Bamberg is not entirely about Rauchbiers! Enjoyed this at the Klosterbrau Tavern, from a bottle, Fall of 2001. Very enticing medium-dark golden color, with a fine, small head. It's sweet, malty nose invites you for a further taste.... Real good body, and it's a smooth-operator on your tongue! A good example of a Maibock, as the flavor is strong and malty. Mmmm..Prosit!
