A beer bigger than the devil.
When you feel like a hoppy beer, there is not much that even compares with this. Forty four pounds of hops wre dumped into the batch to make this the hoppiest Imperial IPA around.
A hazy, unfiltered golden colour with a thick white head greets you followed by a pretty lace.
The aroma is strong citrus, grass, and floral notes.
A taste that bites back. Strong grapefruit flavors and earthy notes.
I was lucky enough two be drinking only the second pint of this ever poured. As I sat and drank it, I was impressed at how it didn't hurt as bad as I thought it would. Actually, it was quite pleasant. Okay, I won't BS. I love the stuff. I'll be back later today for more.
The hop sediment at the bottom was a nice surprise also.

100 ibus! Orange/amber, unfiltered with a big head of thick, hazy white foam. Aromas are FRESH floral and citrus hops, like the British attack smelled but pumped up by about 400%. The taste is hoppy as all get out up front, and the malt really struggles to make its presence known in the middle palate of this brew. The mouthfeel is not too thick for a double IPA, and that lends a great session drinkability to this flavorful but EASY drinking brew. Wow, the crown in Flour citys jewel. What a damn good brew pub this is!

A real winner from Flour City Brewing in Rochester. It poured a dark translucent copper and was topped off by a two-finger, dense tan head. The hops and citrus dominate the aroma, but there's also pine and a hint of sweetness back there somewhere. The taste basically followed suit, reminding me of the grapefruity double IPAs all over the market now. There was a bit more yeastiness to this one, especially at the finish, and the mouthfeel was a balance of light carbonation and medium thin silkiness.

Eye Candy: Cloudy orange that is translucent. Pours with a thin head that gives way to ample lacing that lasted throughout. No rising carbonation bubbles. Looks better in a 20 oz.

The Nose Knows: The piney hops will clear you out if you have a cold. The bitter, pine-like hops reaches deep into the nose, could actually feel a "tingling sensation" from the hops.

Tongueland: Pine hops at front, which "fades" into a flowery assault with a touch of citrus. Oily lingering aftertaste, but not overwhelming. Does not dry you out like other Imperial IPA's. A perfectly drinkable Imperial IPA.

Bender Factor: At 8 % ABV, 44 fits the bill. $$ is hopped with 44 lbs. of hops. WOW.

Good to see this brewery branch out at go for the throat so quickly. Poured a burnished, copper color with a thick foamy head with lace that clung like spiderwebs to the side of the glass. Smell was full of malty esters and a ton of piney hops that burned my nose. Taste was very much in that raw hops flavor. The hops character was definitely bittering rather than flavor. For comparison this is like the bitter upstate double, while the Ithaca is more fruity and juicy and balanced. The alcohol was not too apparent which was nice. This was definitely a more English version of a double in my opinion. Mouthfeel was a tad scratchy, but still pretty good. This is a great start for the brewery and I am excited about the prospects of more adventureous beers in the near future. Also be sure to try a Dirt Harry. It is a Black and Tan with the 44 Magnum and their dry stout. Very tasty.

Very good double IPA. This could be a top 100 brew if carried at other spots. Very citrusy, dry aftertaste. I think a bottling candidate, and they have just got their licenses and equipment to bottle something. Strong alcohol unnoticeable through the abundant grapefruity flavour. Good carbonation. Great creamy head was bonus.
