Deep and dark brown with a neary black appearance on the pour. Highly carbonated, very short off-white head with weak retention. Roasted malts, molasses, wheat and thick barley in the aroma; mildly bitter and rye spices make their way through to the nose as well. Sweet molasses, roasted malts and toasted nuts on the first sip. Well balanced body; soft tones of molasses and creamy malt moderate the nutty bite and roasted malt and barley. Mildly bitter, nutty mouthfeel with a light-to-medium sized body. Almonds and creamy malt on the finish.

330ml bottle. Lager glass. Renjoyed on agt´11. Dark mahogany in color. Beige, small bubbled, close crown. Good retention & dense collars. Floral & toasted coffee aromas. Subtle toffee tasting while gentle bitterness is developed with moderate fruity flavor in the middle. Light body, medium carbonation.. Smooth finish, coffee notes. Well balanced & easy drinkable beer

The colour is brown (50 EBC), the liquid is clear. The head slowly sinks down to a finger thick compact beige lid. No lacing occurs.

The smell is semi-sweet and roasted. Nuts, fruits, some clean bitterness and hints of dried herbs and caramel.

The taste starts off with a sharp sweetness. It fades quite quickly leaving room for dry roasted caramel and colour malts. Some mild bitter flavours, some dried fruits and flowers. It is overall quite mild, balanced and smooth. The aftertaste is smooth, too, with some caramel/toffee, dry roasted malt and dried flowers. Cherry jam in the finish.

The carbonation is medium strong with lots of small fresh bubbles; the liquid is light but not watery.

A well made Dunkel; smooth and fresh.

My father-in-law brought this back form a recent trip to spain. thanks Mike!

Pours crystal clear dark brown with a thin cap of very fine tan head. The head lasts a while and leaves a bunch of spotty lace as it falls.

Aroma is nice. Bit of DMS, but a fairly decent malt backbone. whole wheat bread. Bit of cracker. Caramel and a bit of buttery toffee. Hint of alcohol. Lightly herbal.

Taste is nice. Whole wheat bread. Bit of biscuit and cracker. Light chocolate. Caramel and buttery toffee. Bit of apple and DMS, but not quite to unpleasant levels. Light alcohol. Medium-low bitterness level. Lightly herbal.

Mouthfeel is nice. Medium-light body. Just over medium carbonation level.

Drinkability is pretty good. Nice balance. A little rough around the edges, but not a bad beer overall.

330ml bottle into pint glass

one finger off white head, slowly dissipating. pours deep black.

smells of dark roasted malts, cooked cereal as well, but something offputting too

dark malts, a touch of alcohol, light body for the style

overall, pretty decent for a spanish mass-market beer, even if this is advertised as "premium" in spain

A: Pours deep reddish brown with a medium large tan head, a bit creamy. Some lacings.

S: Light in smell, roasted dark malt with only faint sweetness. Some dark dried fruits.

T: Sweet, almost syrupy roasted malts. Bitter hops. Some fruity notes, both dried but also ripe fresh. Citric.

M: Long sweet roasted aftertaste together with medium smooth body and light carbonation makes this quite interesting.

O: Quite uneven; taste is like a Bock while smell is very light. Not bad for a Spaniard, though.

The brew is dark chestnut, almost brown, has a tan head that settles rather quickly but leaves good lacing. No curtains.

Much malt tones, a bit sweet dried dates, some bitter oranges.

Very sweet, caramelized sugar, sweet dried fruits, dates and figs, some orange peel finish.

Little carbonation, very small bubbles, oily, soft and sticky texture, a slightly dry finish.

I had for some reasons very low expectations on this beer, I was a bit off, it actually has some flavor and bitterness, but at the end it is too sweet for me.

Appearance: Pours a dark brown with a touch of amber. Onr finger of dense tan head; hung around for a couple of minutes. Left small rings of lacing.

Smell: Roast malt and cooked cereal aromas.

Taste: Nice combination of sweetness and bitter, favoring the sweet side. Roast malt, some adjunct contributions.

Mouthfeel: Coats the mouth. Medium bodied. Plenty of carbonation. Dry, slightly bitter finish.

Overall: A nice beer. I would drink it again. The best Spanish beer I've had.

This beer has a normal and creamy head with good lacing. Smell correct, some caramel and the toasted cereals. The taste is good, toasty and a bit sweet and also there is a predominant taste on barley and malt. Great mouthfeel, it is easy to drink and overall a good brew.

Appearance: The head adheres to the glass. The bubbly, caramel-colored head shrinks, but sticks around for a while as 1/3 cm of foam. The body is a dark burgundy.

Smell: malty, coffee, dark chocolate

Taste: coffee, rich, bitter hops, faintly sweet, smooth

It could be more intense, but it's pretty darned good for a Spanish beer.

330 ml. bottle. Dark colour, a little head that doesn't hold for too long. Arome of sweet malts, licorice, chocolate, sweet mal coffee. The body could be much stronger, though it has a kind of inky flavor. Taste of roasted malts, coffee, some dark fruits. Good one.

pours a very dark amber, looking almost black if it were dark in the room. one finger head that doesn't stay, but ok lacing that does.

smell i'm not getting anything. a bit of chocolatey malt perhaps, but only with a huge effort.

taste is pretty interesting, i definitely approve, for a spanish beer. dark malts, alcohol, bit of chocolate, a little hop bite, and bitter finish, all very crisp. as it warms the flavors blend together a bit more, and you taste only the dark malts.

mouthfeel is quite thick, relatively high carbonation.

drinkability: very crisp and goes down well, carbonation makes it quite refreshing.

Pours dark with an orange ruby around the edges where the light can sneak in.

Very little scent of note. Upon inhaling with more force than I should, I finally detect roasted malts.

Taste is all roasted (more like charred than roasted) malts at first, maybe with a flutter of hops trying to emerge at the end. Lingering roasted bitterness.

Medium to light mouth feel, really not much to this beer. Explosively heavy carbonation though, even for a lager.

Very welcome change from the Mahou/Cruzcampo/Estrella Damm yellow urinesque lager scene that absolutely dominates the bar market here in Spain, but it could still use some work.

I currently live in a small town in Spain, and this is by far the best thing I can find locally. I pay .65 cents a bottle for it at my local supermarket, and I wouldn't pay much more for it.

Edit 08 May 2008: This has been my staple for the past 5 months. My original review is still right along with my likes of this beer, but I wanted to re-iterate the fact that it is way over carbonated.

Picked this up in Guatemala City at a Spanish import shop for roughly $2.10 bottle.

Appearance
Deep ruby/rust, clear, steady stream of carbonation, and a quickly rising head that tops out to a couple inches of an off-white pillow; head subsides to a craggy inch top; leaves nice lacing

Aroma
Sweet malt and a bit of hop bitterness; something somewhat metallic; familiar lager malt smell; nothing too powerful or outstanding

Taste & Mouth Feel
Light, clean and crisp going down; a bit of cookie sweetness on the front and a mild hop bite at the back, ending with a dry finish and minimal after taste, although some caramel flavor is detectable; sweetness is the dominating character of this beer; body is thin to medium with a somewhat smooth/creamy texture

Comparisons
It reminds me of an amber ale, something along the lines of New Castle

Overall
It's hardly a “black” beer, as the label says, but it does seem to meet the standard for the style (Munich Dunkel Lager); light, easy to drink, and has some flavor, but not necessarily enjoyable
