Pours a clear light yellow with a foamy white head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Tiny dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is of grain, vegetables, and some grassy aromas. Taste is much the same with a very grainy aftertaste. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a pretty average beer that is drinkable but very mild in both the aroma and taste.

Poured from a brown 32 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head, highly carbonated. Smell is of corn, some sweetness. Taste is crisp, light, some corn and grain. Feels light in the mouth and overall would probably be a refreshing beer to drink in the tropics.

Regia Extra has a medium, white head, a decent amount of lacing, a clear, yellow appearance, and some tiny particles floating about. The aroma is of sweet bread and a hop zing. Taste is of lightly-toasted barley malt, sweetness, cracker, grass, and it is balanced with a nice hop bite. Moutfeel is light to medium, and Regia Extra finishes crisp, clean, refreshing, and mostly dry. This is a delicious beer.

Poured a very light gold colour that was extremely transparent. It looks thin, if that's possible. It retained a small white head, though. The smell is of grains and water. It SMELLS watery. I haven't tasted it yet. But I can already smell it. It also smells Mexican, if that's possible. It has the typical smell of many Mexican adjunct lagers, even though it is from El Salvador. Not to say that Mexican beers are really THAT much different than their American adjunct counterparts.
The taste is really quite good. It is refreshing. That is a quality that I would consider good in a beer from south of the border, where it is hot most of the time. Reviewing this in winter seems inappropriate, but I can see myself enjoying this during Texas' spring or summer. It doesn't taste too starchy as some Mexican beers do, it doesn't have a weird sour flavour or any off flavours, really. This is SERIOUSLY refreshing. But it still manages to taste a bit like beer and is well balanced. Thumbs up on this. This is something I'd totally go for in a hot place like El Salvador. Of course, if I was somewhere THAT hot, I'd probably prefer an aqua fresca to a beer most of the time. I've tried drinking when it's 100 degrees outside. Not fun. Anyway, if you want a very refreshing light-flavoured beer that still tastes like beer, this is what you want. Enjoy.

A: huge quart bottle, pours straw yellow. Head was about a finger
S: cooked corn and rice, not much else
T: mostly one dimensional cooked corn/greens. Very light almost nonexistent bitterness.
M: similar to lightly carbonated water.
O: its better than some Mexican cousins, but still isn't the best.

Out of a big ol’ 32 oz bottle this beer was a clear, golden color with a towering three-finger head that was short lived. Spots of lacing but nothing more. The aroma was of pale malt, a little adjunct grains and a hints of hops. The flavors were pretty good for an adjunct beer. I tasted dry biscuity malt, rice and corn adjuncts, something like saltine crackers but almost no hops. The mouthfeel was foamy, the body light and the carbonation medium/high. Nothing special by itself, but special within its category of otherwise awful beers.

Oh no you didn't. Uh yeah sure why not. This is one giant ass bottle here at 32 fl. ounces. Looks like a grenade. Hey call it an intro to the temporary neighborhood and a hello to El Salvador! Onward and poured into a shaker pint glass. Hey it's either this or Bud Chelada...

A very shocking white, I mean just big bright white head is produced with some clumpyness but it dissolves in clumps pretty quickly. Body is a pale straw color looking like a simple beer. Very tiny spotted lacing. Part of the edges look like green hues also. THe drink though manages to keep a good solid white puck throughout. Ok not bad here...

Smell. A very small grain, but not much going on. It was stronger off the pour, but really seems to have disappeared. Clean wet, kind of boring, but nothing offensive.

First taste is at first not much of anything, then it becomes slightly sweet. Sweet grainy (corn?) tasting, almost syrupy. The brew does have some body to it I must admit which kind of shocked me. This isn't a weak wet mess. However, there isn't really much going on here besides it.

Overall this isn't much to write home about, or even much to say. So I'll just stop writing and leave it at that.

A - Golden wheat color, decent 1/2" head, drops to nice lacing around the sides

S - Sweet toasted bread, some cheap boozy smell

T - Light sweet biscuit flavor, relatively malty, nearly no hops

M - watery

D - Not too bad considering it came in a 32oz bottle for 3 bucks from the bad part of town. Very surprising, good for a session beer shared with a few buddies

Poured into a Pokal.

A: Brilliant gold with nice clarity and a steady bead. A dense and foamy white cap slowly falls to a patchwork film. Leaves a decent amount of lace.

S: Musty cut grass dominates the nose. A bit of lemon and a touch of straw round things out.

T: Light, crisp and unassuming. Dry cracker-like malt comes out first. A sharp bitterness comes on that, while mild in the bitterness spectrum, has a bigger kick than this style usually brings. It lends a lemon and pepper bite that gets somewhat metallic as the beer nears its finish. The bitterness lingers for a bit before fading away.

M: The light body is dry and has about the right carbonation tingle to it.

D: There's nothing mind blowing going on here. Just your basic pale lager that doesn't stray from the formula. The beer's lightness makes it an easy drinker. Metallic flavors in the finish provide the only real negatives.

Another giant 32oz bottle in a unique shape, dark, great for homebrews. Foams up nice, light yellow to straw. Corn syrup aroma.

A decent profile of more heft than expected, but still tastes like a light adjunct beer. No hops. Another hot weather beer. This is a palate cleanser between ipas for me. Just that clean and smooth feel of a corn or rice beer. Added salt/lime halfway down, got better. Not for drinking outside of July or August.

A the lightest pale straw yellow ever, I'm willing to bet tap water from some places in El Salvador has more color then this. that being said it dose have a big bone white head that has decent retention and leaves a few partial rings of lace

S corny/grassy hops with some sweet malt on par for the style

T pretty close to the smell but maybe a little sweeter and with just a hint of lemon

M quite thin but with good carbonation

D I'd drink this again, its not great but the price is right and it would make a decent summer slammer

I expected very little from this beer and as it turned out I didn't mind it. I liked the bottle it came in too, you don't see lots of giant stubby bottles in these parts

Poured from a 32oz stubbie (WTF?) into a pilsner glass.

There is a big bee on the bottle for no apparent reason.

Brilliantly clear pale spring bud liquid with a large half finger of shock white foam which (surprisingly) lasts and lasts. Good lacing, no legs.

Elotes (on a stick!), faint honey (maybe that explains the damn bee on the bottle?), and malt aromatics.

Quite sweet on the palate: malt, band-aids, pupusas, and a very faint herbal note. Adjunct through and through, but not terrible. No bitterness, and no off notes...

Light bodied, active carbonation, smooth, goes well with food...
Rating for style, you could do a lot worse.

I wasn't sure what to expect with this one. I picked it up at the local guadalajara supermarket. Anyways, the appearance on this one was very good. It had one of the most fluffiest heads I've seen. Sure, it died out, but it lasted a good amount of time. Everything else was pretty much average for an adjunct. Actually, it was nicer, because the smell and taste didn't have any offensive characteristics, ie skunk or rotting veggies. Not sure it's worth the $4.50 I paid for it though. Then again, that might be the gringo price.

A bottle, all right, a big, full quart's worth (and 4.6% by the label) - super Stubbie!

This beer pours a clear pale straw colour, with two fingers of foamy, soapy white head, which leaves some fairly solid painted-on lace as it recedes There are some nice continuously-rising bubble streams as well. It smells of musty, dank sweet white grain, and some weedy hops. The taste mild sweet biscuit grain, corn, and some mild, earthy, dusty hops. The carbonation is average, the body moderately weighty, and it finishes a wee bit off-dry, sporting just a tiny bit of skunkiness, but with some crispness in there too.

A nicely even and balanced beer - quite easy to drink, especially when compared to its brethren.

Whoa (Joey Lawrence-esque) Definitely not what I was expecting. This beer is extremely light, almost waterish clear. I have never seen a beer this light in color...or lacking color. Extremely clear that readily forms a white head when poured. The head dissipates to a clean 1/8" sudsy head. There is a pretty substantial amount of carbonation rising to the surface.

This beer smells musty with very little to offer. I do get a slight hint of some pale malts in the nose, but little else. I will say that it smells "clean".

An off flavor, or should I say an unexpected flavor...almost tropical and citrusy. No I didn't have a slice of lime on the glass. Watery -> not very malty or hoppy for that matter. What am I missing? This beer is very simple and straight forward.

Light bodied and crisp. I thought it was pretty smooth with a noticeable amount of carbonation. I could see where this beer would be refreshing on a hot summer day.

Seems almost BMC, there is no complexity to the beer at all. Very boring but could serve as a great summer sessional as opposed to Corona.

A: A perfectly clear pale yellow with some active carbonation. A decent sized, foamy and somewhat dense white head with above average retention. A nice amount of patchy lace.

S: Some mild, sweet grainy malt. A bit of corn as well. Hints of alcohol and grassy hops. Clean and mild.

T: Mild malt sweetness, with some husky graininess. Some sweet corn and very light cooked vegetable flavors. Faint grassy/herbal hops and a touch of alcohol.

M: Rather light and immaculately clean. Crisp and tingly carbonation. A slight astringent/husky dryness into the finish, but rather even overall.

D: This is what it is - a macro, adjunct lager. However, it achieves an extremely clean and perfectly quaffable macro adjunct lager. This is stereotypical in a good way.

Found this guy in a big 32 ouncer at my local Whole Foods. Pours a better than average clear yelllow with white head into my white wine glass and jettisons a steady stream of tiny bubbles to maintain soapy white white film. Very faint smells of honeyish malts and grassy, lemon hops. The taste is the best part of this beer: pleasantly sweet tastes of grainy malts that don't have a whole lot of character or leave much of an impression beyond that "it's good." Light bodied and carbonated enough to pass muster on my scale. Not particularly memorable but it proved a fine beer to show to my group of Latin Americanist buddies tonight, and one that will hopefully intrigue them enough to buy something out of the ordinary the next time they shop.

Presentation: 12 oz brown bottle with no freshness date to be found.

Appearance: Yellow straw. A bit foamy but an awkward pour from the 32 oz bottle.

Smell: Malty and sweet.

Taste & Mouth Feel: Very light but not watery like this style can be from time to time. Tasted a bit unhopped but close to balanced.

Drinkability & Notes: It started out a bit disapointing but rounded out nicely through entire glass. Probably won't try again but it was a nice reminder of the beers I had on my honeymoon in Costa Rica.

The waiter at the restaurant said this was a dark beer so I ordered it over BMC Corona, etc. It was surprisingly good for the style.

Deep yellow, more colorful than most in the style. No head or lacing.

Rich, sweet smell, little tinge of hops.

Really sweet flavor, could be cut back a bit but the surprising thing is the very blatant hop bitterness throughout the beer and especially at the end. really, unexpectedly good for what it is.

Mouthfeel is high carbonation, thin, drying but the sweetness makes it a tad sticky.

The next time I want a macro lager for some reason (softball, lawnmowing) this would be my first choice by a long shot. try it out.

Oh my lord. I thought I couldn't find a beer worse than Corona, but I did. Maybe this one got cooked, but I doubt it. Nose was just unpleasant, aromas of straw and skunk, taste the same, appearance was pale pale pale hay color, and there were 32 ounces of this stuff. I endured five sips, even tried putting lime and salt in the thing, but it was still completely intolerable for me. Blech. Glad I got this one for free, because otherwise I would have wanted a refund.

This review is part of Macro Smackdown XX, in which Belize's own, Belikin Beer, will attempt to show Regia Extra who's the king of the Central American jungle. An added bit of interest is that these breweries are only 270 miles apart, giving the contest a 'backyard brawl' sort of vibe. Incidently, my bottle isn't the 32 oz. monster shown above, but is the standard 12 oz.

Fuzzy amber that pales a bit when backlit with sunshine. The head on this beer is a fraction brighter white, lasts longer, looks better on the way down and leaves more lace. I prefer the color and the clarity of its competitor, however.

Regia's nose could use an overhaul. A mild perfume-like quality is overcome by a medicinal smell that reminds me of Bactine (the disinfectant). I guess it would come in handy if I ever cut myself in the El Salvadorian jungle, but it isn't something that I look forward to drinking.

The flavor profile isn't quite as medicinal. That's the good news. The only good news. Extra reminds me of dozens upon dozens of Eastern European lagers. It's neither sweet nor bitter and has a stale grain mixed with plastic flavor that might be due to excessive age. It doesn't taste oxidized, exactly, so it's hard to say. I think it's just lousy beer.

While I'm not impressed with the mouthfeel, it's better (in the grand scheme of things) than the aroma or the flavor. Specifically, it's light with less carbonation than is optimal. Since I didn't really expect much in this department...

It looks like Regia Extra got thumped by Belize's finest. I have a sneaking suspicion that age might have been a factor since my bottle of Belikin Beer was hand-carried back from Belize by a honeymooning friend. Sorry El Salvador. Better luck next time.

Regia Extra pours a pale yellow with a thick white head from a brown thirty two ounce bottle. The aroma is adjunct, corn to be specific. This beer has a very light body, the flavor is mild and primarily sweet malt and adjunct. Not unpleasant, but not worth going out of your way for.

Big 32 oz. bottle!

This beer has to be cold. Which it is. The color of the beer is pale straw, real pale. Visible carbonation bubbles whirlpool up towards a creamy cloud of foam which reminds me of a wit or wheat beer.

Not much of a smell. Corn, cane sugar, formaldehyde, come to mind.

The taste is all right. Sweet corn beer that leaves a coat on your tongue and mouth. Refreshing because it's cold and wet but that's it. A sweet sticky beer that sits in your stomach like a lump.

In the beer's defense, it seems like a well made beer with quality ingredients but the balance is way off in my opinion.

I need a dogfish bad...

Very Very Impressive Beer, for what it is... A very impressive lawnmower/fishing/camping/campfire beer


The 32oz'er was very nice to drink out of, had my 1st right after mowing the lawn... had my second immediately after.


The smell is a bit yeasty, slight corn and some fruit . The taste is very flavorful with an abundance of fruit and extremely smooth start to finish.


Nice bottle, wonderful flavor, try to get your's fresh... very hard, but can be arranged, infact if you're up for a trade just let me know I have a guy that supplies me with these as fresh as you can get them in the US. Excellent beer for what it is!

Regia Extra pours a crystal-clear, light straw-gold body beneath a creamy head of bright white that holds surprisingly well and leaves some nice thin rings of lace at the outset of the glass.

The nose expresses lots of yeasty sulphur and some corn-like dimetyl sulphide but not much else. There's some mild adjunct-laden maltiness, and a waft of dull hops in the background, but that's it... quite generic.

The flavor is basic as well, delivering a thin, lightly sweet maltiness that's balanced by a solid bitterness. At least the DMS gives it some character, as there's no real graininess to it; and not unlike the aroma, the spicy and herbal hops are relegated to a background role.

The body is medium-light, and it's fizzy in the mouth.

An average beer at best, I think that Regia Extra's refreshing quality is its best aspect. And not unlike a light beer, you could drink a lot of it, but why would you want to? Add to that the excessive lagery sulphur and mild DMS, and you'll probably want to pass it by unless you're actually in El Salvador on a very hot day. Cheers!
