Andechser Weissbier Hefetrüb is a great looking hefeweizen. It presents itself with massive amounts of pure white head that lasts a long time. The body is a gold hazy peach color, and is of course ultra hazy.
The aromas I detect are that of banana, clove, and a hint of orange rind.
The taste has a little peppery bite, with a little acid sweetness.
This is a very thirst quenching weizen, and a little coarse as well. It is really not too powdery for as much yeast that is left in the bottle.
Overall this is a decent hefeweizen, but not like a good old Weihenstephaner Hefe!

A: Cloudy with a nice size head on it
S: Smells of yeast and fruits. Quite pleasing
T: It has a more bitter taste than most hefeweizen beers I've tasted. It's yeasty and wheaty. The fruits don't really come out to play, but they are there in the background. There is a vanilla flavour that comes out.
M: Creamy and with a nice bite from the carbonation
D: Yep, like all German ales.

500 ml bottle acquired as an extra in a trade with RedHaze, thank you very much for providing this great addition to my package, poured into my Chimay goblet tonight
A-Pale golden yellow color that is rather murky, 3/4 inch creamy white head that stuck around for nearly five minutes, some lacing at the beginning
S-Lemon juice, orange peel, wheat, bready malt aromas, black pepper, vanilla, banana, cloves, others spices, and some bubble gum
T-Started off with a crisp wheat taste, then faded into some citrus accents, finish was pretty creamy, got a little breadier as time went on, the spices really took over towards the end, taste was subtle but packed a punch in the aftertaste most of the way through, goes down incredibly easy, sweeter as time went on but still highly drinkable, loved the flavor of this brew
M-Chewy and creamy mouthfeel, good amount of carbonation, thin to medium body, taste did not linger very long, somewhat spicy towards the end
D-Could have drank a few bottles of this, would make a nice session beer, only five and a half percent alcohol, crisp and refreshing, smooth
First beer from Klosterbrauerei Andechs, I am letting that Dopplebock Dunkel sit in my fridge a little longer, would definitely drink again, great for a hefeweizen, recommended

500ml bottle bought from Beers Of Europe...
Poured a hazy golden yellow colour... White head poured typically big thick and foamy then faded slowly to nice thick layer ... lots of carbonation rises to the surface... decent amount of thick sticky lacing...
Aroma - Nice clove spiciness, light vanilla notes, noticeable wheat, quite bready, very little malts, light fruitiness (banana and lemon), quite peppery, some hay traces...
Taste Light biscuity malts, faint bubblegum traces mixed with clove, definite breadiness, quite creamy, good fruitiness (lemon and some pear notes), salty, some floral honey sweetness, grassy and peppery hints...
Feel - Very smooth and creamy with just a little bite underneath... light body... Extremely refreshing and drinkable...
Overall - An excellent German hefe... up there with the best...

Gold color with a nice apricot tint after u look an inch or so up from the bottom of the glass. Gets murkier as we get towards the top--which I actually like. Smell is sweet upfront with some bready malty aspects. Slight citrus notes as well. Earthy muddy notes with the all familiar banana and clove esters.
Taste is about as smooth as can be. Very similar to the nose--lots more citrus on the palate than the nose. Also good liquid -bread effect. As far as hefes go, this has got to be right up there amongst the best ive tried in the category.

A lot of a good compact and persistent foam. Orange, lightly cloudy appearance. Right for a hefe weizen.
Weizen smell, too. Good, banana, cloves, orange peel, some spiciness (pepper). Very well balanced.
Wel balanced in the taste too. Maybe, just a bit too thin. Anyway, great drinkability and plesantness. Banana and cloves. Very good weizen.
Aftertaste with a little banana, and pleasantly spiced. Orange peel, pepper.

pours a foamy (a bit shampoo-type) head ... the color is a bit muddy ... the smell is a bit of overripe pears ... taste is fruity (peach, mango) with a shot of grenadine syrup ... all in all the brew is suited for amateurs of rather sweet drinks ....

fresh bottle delivered straight from Munich...
Hazed straw yellow color, very cloudy, enormous, pillowy white, long-lasting head...looks perfect!
Super fresh aroma! Big banana and orange, with lingering lemon, big and beautiful, airy and invigorating...
Taste: snappy, sparkling, citric, smooth, mellow...lush, lovely malt...lemon, lime and orange lie largest in the flavor...brisk, livley carbonation...refreshing and easy-drinking...definitely downable and downright delicious.
A grittier mouthfeel than many American-made hefe weizens, and a fuller texture...this is the stuff! Not sure if it outshines Weheinstephaner of Schneider Wess...I think it's heavier than them both, more flavorful, without some of the ethereal qualities the finer weizens can boast.
Quite a flavorful number here... big lemon, full malt, not so much spice as you'd taste in others...very full of character and utter panache...there's nothing not to like...yum...so delicious.

Had on tap at the Klosterbrauerei Andechs, served in a 0.5L glass in the bier garten. The beer was hazy golden orange with a thick and creamy foam on top. Actually every beer I tried at the brewery can be described as having a creamy texture to the head. The smell had some banana and clove of course, but in addition I found some fruity esters and fresh bread in the aroma. The taste was peppery and fruity, banana/clove also, and an after-taste I'll describe as buttery. The mouthfeel was thick and filling, creamy texture from the effervescence too. Extremely easy to drink, although it's too filling to rate "5" for drinkability. Excellent beer, and highly recommended.

I had a really exciting, but false alarm moment earlier tonight. Thought I saw Andechs doppelbock at a local store! It was, in fact the dunkelweiss bier. Not as good as the almost impossible to get doppelbock, but sitting next to the dunkel was this one. I remember trying it once before and liking it, so I picked it up.
Poured into a small weizen glass, I basically get 2 different-looking beers out of 2 pours. The first pour shows a bright golden beer with very enthusiastic carbonation and decent head. The second one, with the yeast, is a perfect banana-pineapple color with a thick, short head. I love this kind of beer for appearance, very sexy indeed.
Sweet, almost bubble gum banana smells, a little subdued. The spicy clove character is weak in the nose, but seems to come through alright in the taste. Much more hop presence, bitterness in the finish than expected. After some consideration, I really must bump my score up from good to 4.5 for taste. It's not that different from other great German hefes, but right now, for me, it's a nearly perfecet beer.
It's been a long time since I've had a world-class hefeweizen, and this was a real treat. I almost want to give it all 5s. But then I remember Weihenstephaner. And this one still holds up as a fine example of the style. Highly recommended!

Very pale and cloudy yellow with a soft white head that retained pretty well. I get some light bubble gum and banana in the nose, as well as bread and some light lemon. Just a touch of tartness and clove in the beginning of the taste. Bready tastes throughout with some lemon, not very much banana, except there is some in the finish. Lower in carbonation than most, very light body. Makes for a light, refreshing beer that I'd enjoy in the summer, but considering it's rarity and there being plenty of superior replacements, I'll drink those instead.

Pours a big hefe-head and stays thick and frothy for some time. The color is light golden yellow and hefe-cloudy. Smell is clovey with a hint of lemon. Taste has a slight banana with a good amount of clove. A slight breadiness acompany's those flavors. It also has a light body feel to it, something I'm not totally used to in a traditional German hefe. The mouthfeel is ok, not so smooth, not so harsh. Overall it was ok, and I can't wait to try it fresh from the brewery sometime.

Pours a densley clouded autumn wheatish color with a super creamy, lingering white head. It almost looks like a glass of grapefruit juice in its color and density. There must have been a ton of yeast in this sucker!
A stampeding army of clove in the aroma backed up by an intense bready yeastiness and undercurrents of banana.
Nice medium-firm body, spicy on the palate, with the esters (banana) becoming a little more prominant. Bit of a grainy malt character. Slight lemon zest tartness in the finish. Very refreshing! I could suck these down all day up on the mount with the sun shining.
A world class hefe in every respect.

purchased in a getränkemarkt in Ismaning, Germany; poured into a Weihenstephaner (shhh) .3L glass.
Appearance: nice slightly reddish gold; almost opaque; moderate head but no lace
Smell: wow, more clove and banana than any other that I've had.
Taste: amps up the aromas and adds a hint of citrus and other fruit; light-to-moderate hop bitterness; the flavors sing weissbier.
Mouthfeel: medium balanced by a moderately high level of carbonation.
Drinkability: for hefe lovers, this is really great. To me, the flavors compare to more mundane weissbiers similar to the hop levels in DIPAs compared to the original style.

A very nice find indeed, while visiting der Andechser am Dom in Regensburg in September of 2006.
Light orange in color, this Weissbier presented with moderate carbonation, a hazy tinge to it, and a large, pillowy head, for sure. Aromas of big yeastiness, clove and banana fill the sinuses. Good balance on the palate with the fresh-cut grainy malt offering a nice backdrop to that great banana-clove flavour. Slight bitter hoppy twang in the back that was a nice surprise. Very, very nice offering.
Zum wohl!

A - Pours a cloudy gold with a big, firm, foaming head that sits there forever. Masses of small bubbles rise to keep it in place. Very inviting.
S - Banana, clove, phenols, yeast, mixed light fruits. Lovely stuff.
T - Yeasty fruitiness and slight bubblegum kick off with the banana appearing in the middle, which really blooms towards the end when it's joined by a spicy clove flavour. There is a slight medicinal phenol note in there too. Aftertaste is a clean, muted version of the finish and it lingers for some time.
M - Light-medium body. Creamy, but finishes clean and refreshes the mouth. The lively carbonation of the appearance is not as aggressive as expected.
D - An excellent and very drinkable beer. I should have bought more. Highly recommended.

Had this on tap at the Wildeman in Amsterdam. (great bar, by the way).
It pours a cloudy, dark yellow with a fluffy white head that sticks around for a while. Nice lacing. The smell is fruity and crisp and clean. Quite nice. Taste is smooth, sweet, orangy or citrusy, and the mouthfeel is lighter than I expected. Pretty darn good drinkability, but I liked to move onto the doppelbock after one wheat beer.

BB 16/03/06, consumed two months after its suggested BB date--I hope it's alright. Served lightly-chilled in a 500ml weizen glass.
A: slightly hazy, dark orange-yellowish hue, coming with a thick, cotton-ish white beer head with superb retention; gently as well as lively carbonation.
S: a fresh banana aroma abounds, neither too harsh, "stinky", nor floating, plus peach+apricot+ripe Cantaloupe melon; added with a lightly ashy note from the foam, yeast-drink's sour-sweet yeastiness, and candyish malts+refreshing wheat-malts all together. Showing no clear structure, but the combination is really nice and harmonious. Surprisingly there's not much hint of cloves in the aroma. But for a hefe-weizen, the nose is still one of the most complex and enjoyable I've ever encountered...
T: sour-sweet, slightly tangy, fruity flavour abounds upfront, almost like green mango+green banana--balanced and delicious; a stream of cottony-textured, wheat-ish flavour slowly takes over the theme, backed by a profound flavour of yeast drink (like Yakult) that is also closely in check. Dryish and sour-sweet aftertone lingers in the back, leaving some tangy mouthfeel at the deep end of the tongue, like after eating some "green" fruits...
M&D: superb carbonation and creamy soft mouthfeel--I suspect the "overly-maturation" of this beer has done some good to the overall texture? A medium-full bodied hefe-weizen, deserving slow sipping. The strength is in its balance, if I may, and it's certainly one of my favourite botted hefe-weizen for sure. Next time I'll find a bottle within its sell-by date to see if it's any different.

A: Hazy straw, lots of fluffy white head, good retention and lace.
S: Malty (bread), citrus and spice, slight banana.
T: Bready, citrus, spice, hint of pineapple and banana. (taste scores between 4 and 4.5).
M: Light to moderate body is very creamy. Light to moderate carbonation.

Sampled on 10/10/05 at Probka, this gem came out cloudy yellow gold under a three finger white head with excellent retention generating numerous lace strings. The nose is strong of banana, but just banana. No balancing yeast, spice or other fruit. The mouth is very prickly and quite sticky. The taste is dominated by banana, lots of it. There's a bit of yeast and a touch of dry bitter, but no spice or lemon. Pretty much just banana. An enjoyable, good tasting brew, if a bit one-sided.

Bottle purchased at the monastery about a month and a half ago.
Cloudy orange with a long lasting white head. Smell is sweet banana and melon. A deep whiff is almost too much for the nose to handle, it's that strong of a smell. Taste is very sweet. This is a weizen that defnitely swings toward the fruity side of things, while not bring out the spicy clove much. Distinct banana lingers on the taste buds long after you take a sip. Yeasty breadiness is present also. Mouthfeel is above average for a wheat beer. Nice and creamy and thick, but still carbonated enough to be refreshing. One of the best wheat beers we sampled in our brief trip to Germany.

Hazy golden body, average white foam with no lacing. Enormously yeasty aroma. It first makes me think of bark, there is big banana in there. Gentle phenols, everything at the right place at the right moment. Beautifully balanced, if I appreciated hefes a lot more, I might shoot for high 4s. Light cloves, sweet, well displayed. Tarter than I expected in mouth though, it makes it all the more refreshing, but Im not sure I enjoy it as much as the aroma, it is very fruity, yet not very sweet, mostly floral with green herbs hints. Thin-medium bodied, spritzy carbonation, but not lasting. Great aroma..

On tap at the monastery, May 31, 2005.
Oh, my gosh! Everything you would have expected and more. Certainly the best Hefeweizen I've ever tasted, and by a large margin. Even better than Kulmbacher Kapuziner. WOWOWOWOW!
What an aroma! Mown hay, cloves, pear (pear!), grass, grapefruit, then banana esters.
The flavor is so complex, it's hard to describe, and it's really several beers in one: cold, it's all clove and pepper on flowers and grapefruit; as it warms, the banana and pear come up, even some elderberry. Simply amazing. Long, long, long clove-orange-banana finish. This stuff tastes so good you hardly want to swallow it. Defies description. Heavenly.
Certainly the prettiest wheat beer in the world: all cloudy light orange-amber, with a huge (HUGE) white rocky head, that lasts and lasts, and leaves good lacing all the way down.
Unusually serpentine mouthfeel for a H-w, with perfect carbonation. So fresh and delightful to the palate. Ssssllurrppy.
Hefeweizen is one of my favorite styles, and this is perhaps the best of the bunch: certainly the best I've tasted. If you ever get a chance, you MUST go have this at the monastery. Great in bottles: truly exceptional on draught.

How could you not love a beer like this. .5L on tap at the Am Dom on a serene sunday afternoon. Poured a golden yellow with just a hint of orange hue much like a setting sunset when there is just a faint bit of cloud at the edge of the horizon. The smell was intense banana flavors with plenty of fruity undertones beckoning me to quaff freely. The first taste did not dissapoint as this was one of the better beers I have ever had the chance to sample from the pour all the way through to the mouthfeel, which was so smooth and refreshing it was like taking a dive into the Riveria. If only I could live in Munich... in fact maybe I will.
