The colour is black-brown; the liquid is hazy. The finger thick head is pale brown.
The smell is sour (almost tart) with lightly roasted creamy notes. Fresh flavours of green apples, coffee, yeast and cocoa.
The taste is very fresh with notes of matured apples, plums, wheat dough, and coffee with cream. The aftertaste got notes of bitter hops/herbs, sour yeast, cocoa and a hint of red grapes.
The carbonation is fresh and quite strong, but at the same time quite short. Small bubbles. The liquid is medium smooth and a bit dry.
A nice example of a rather unusual style; a good wheat beer for the winter nights.

Poured chestnut brown with ruby edges. Very nice head, fluffy and independent. A thin head stuck around the whole time. Aroma is like a hefeweizen, but more malt and less fruitiness.
Flavor was pretty damn good, solid all around. Maybe a little too much carbonation, but that just may be me. Definitely similar to the hefeweizen flavor profile, save the intense banana thing. This dunkelweizen has a little more spice and malts. More bread as well. Tasty overall.
Definitely not Andechs' most impressive offering, but it confuses me to see average ratings for this brewery's beer. As far as I can tell (and after having drunk most of the Andechs' line) most of their brews are clearly above average.

Brown 0.5 litre bottle, best before 2nd Jan 2009, drank Sep 2008.
Andechs gets such good press, I am struggling to argee with all the hype surrounding their beers, this is the second I've found wanting (out of three I've reviewed).
This is an average dark wiessbier at best and I thought it almost boring at times.
It is a dark, deep brown colour and a good creamy tan coloured head sat on top, it looked both interesting and inviting.
The aroma was of a weak caramel type smell, with a hint of fruitcake.
The taste was more fizz than flavour, the caramel from the aroma was there, but the fruitcake had gone somewhere and it didn't have a rich, intense feel to it at all.
Not what I was expecting, a big disappointment to be honest.

Brown, with reddish edges. High carbonation.
Light brown colored foam, quite creamy. Some bubbles on the sides.
Classic weizen smell, with a full banana, mostly in the beginning. Then light burnt notes, and cloves.
All that on a good malty base. All resolute and intense.
Malt at the taste, some biscuit, then the same notes of the smell. The smell is maybe a bit better.
Average body. Notes of malt and toffee. Round.
Quite short aftertaste.

This beer is deepbrown with some ruby hints, a big, creamy head with very fine bubbles.
Smell of banana with caramel and chocolate, not the best of combination I think, it was a bit vegetable also.
Taste was great without the vegetables and much better balanced. Ripe bananas with some exotic fruit with caramel and dark chocolate. There is also some powdery cocao in taste and mouthfeel, which is also slightly sweet and sticky. The yeast adds a nice phenolic taste and makes the mouthfeel a little coarse (?)

BB15-11-06.Cola to coffeeblack beer and a beige head above. Nose is bananas floating around in a sweet wet grass field. Quiet some maltyness but no roast detectable and bit of butter there. Not a bad beer but the whole beer is comming as a mess to me, quiet unbalanced as is taste. Dry and caramellic dont fit together and missing a burnt feeling in a dark beer as this is, though having quiet some bitterness for a wheatbeer as this is. Litle more wheat detectable in taste as in nose but wouldn't give this a weizenbeer when tasted blindly except maybe for the mega bananatree that's right there. Still well drinkable and certainly something else as the regular.

Powerful aroma of mixed spices fruit, yeast and sweetness...deep rich colour, all matched to the taste...deep, rich, fruity, real depth of character, though the powerful tastes do not encourage it as a session beer, maybe a bit too sweet for that in my opinion, but - as always with Andechs - a wonderful beer not to be missed.

I don't really know what I think about this beer. I guess I just expected more from Andechs on this one. A very dark opaque body, almost black, with a lasting thick bubbly head on top (not exuberantly foamy though). The smell was kinda weak, showing some light bready notes and hints of the traditional weizen styles, with a lot more emphasis on caramel. The taste too, was very caramely for a dunkel weizen, toasted and lamost burnt. The classic bready weizen thing was almost hidden. Mouthfeel was round, but the brew overall lacked of balanced, not fitting right into its style. Not bad, but just nothing in comparison with their doppelbock.

500 ml bottle, bought in Germany. ABV is 5.0%. Cloudy dark brown colour, enormous thick and creamy light tan head. Lovely aroma of brown bread, yeast, cloves, banana and caramel. Flavour has malts, caramel, chocolate and cloves, some hops in the fairly dry finish. I had it on its own, must be good with food too. A very fine dunkelweizen.

A - Beautiful pure white head, completely opaque brown body.
S - Light pastry and brown sugar aromas
T - Very light malt, tired bitterness
MF - Mild carbonation, silky yet slightly acidic(?)
D - A beer this plain from Andechs? A big surprise for me. I had a bottle fo this and was underwhelmed, so I kept my notes, waited a couple days and rereviewed with consistent notes.

Appearance: Dark opaque brown with a large fluffy off white head.
Smell: Banana, oragne peel, and citrus, roasted malt.
Taste/Mouthfell: Mildy sweet with very low bitterness. The banana and citrus from the smell are precent in the taste, but are overpowered by a roasted malt flavor. There is also a faint caramel taste that just doesn't fit the style. The mouthfeel is medium thick and dry.
Drinkabliity: This is a decent beer, but I have had better Dunkel Weizens. I really expected more from Andechs.

Appearance: I must admit to being a fan of Andechs's methodof colour coding their beerlabels. In this instance the black front label looks good and the back label has a photo of the monastery, it's always nice to see a beer's home!. When poured, the beer is a dark brown, burnt caramel colour, the head forms qucly but soon dissipates.
Smell: Very promising, wheaty & stong
Taste: Excellent, this is just what I expected from this type of beer, the flavour really hits the back of your throat on it's way down. I'd love to be able to describe better but sadly I'm a mere amateur at this game!
Mouthfeel: This is a chunky beer with just the right amount of carbonation
Drinkability: More please!!

Very dark on initial pour. ummm, looks like a darker chocolate milk. same constiency. just much darker. lightly tan head, thich, foamy, and laces all the way down. Smells malty, lightly roasted.
Tastes great. Mixes all sorts of interwieving flavors. Chocolate, the a-typical wheat(dunkle) mix of banna, clove, and vanilla. with all these sweet flavors, this is not an overpowering sweetness. This fact is aided by the nice, lightly hopped finish. Well made brew, nothing overpwoering, nothing disspointed.
Props again to joe Rhodes

Appearance: was quit dark with a rich bubbly head
Aroma: chocolaty and and sweet with a slight hint of smoke
Taste: A chocolaty hit at first with a nice light hit of hops at the end, runs through a small gambet of flavor yet you can not call this beer dynamic
Mouthfeel: Slight to weak yet still has a little body so not a total loss
Overall: A good beer but not a great beer worth the drink but nothing to write home about

An excellent little wheat dunkle, very smooth, nice chocolatey banana flavour, and even though its dark i thought it was even refreshing, excellent stuff.
